So this combined with the lack of action on global warming means that I can move to Canada and still live in sunny hot weather.

As anyone can plainly see. This is not George Bush, this is the War Czar ( Bush's insulation).

You have to blame the War Czar for it all now. Now if Iraq doesn't work out for GW, he can fire someone for poor performance. And that would be Lute.

The President is just too busy to be Commander in Chief, you see.

Nine to ten years? Should be just about what we'd need to take their oil, or at least get the pipes flowing from permanent base to permanent base and then out of the country. Parents, gas up your SUV's and hand over your children; Exxon needs to borrow them for just a little while...

Any of you have children or grandchildren who are of draft age, or are approaching it?

Just to get yourself into the spirit of it all, please check out the video clip on YouTube of Country Joe & the Fish's rendition of "I Feel Like I'm Fixing to Die Rag." Choose the Woodstock version.

If you were there at the time, you will be amazed about how much you've forgotten about it in the meantime. If you were too young to remember, ask your parents or grandparents to view it with you, and then discuss. You will all be amazed. Guaranteed.

Want a quick, simple solution to end the U. S. occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan?

Mandate that all individual and coporate tax cuts since Chimpy and his buddies invaded the White House in January, 2001 be rolled back to December, 2000 levels, and additionally, specify that these rollbacks will continue, at a very minimum, until the United States has completely vacated Iraq and Afghanistan.

Anyone think this might bring about some change?

George W. Bush's grandfather was part of a group in the early 1930s that tried to overthrow FDR, and Ret. General Smedley Butler's refusal to go along with the plan must have left a sour taste in the Bush family's mouths after this "debacle." The plan was to install a fascist dictatorship in the United States. For further details, read "The Plot to Seize the White House: The Shocking True Story of the Conspiracy to Overthrow FDR" by Jules Archer.

So, George W. Bush must surely be salivating the opportunity to one-up both his father and grandfather. His father didn't invade Iraq during the Gulf War in 1991 and served only one term in office. W invaded Iraq and is a two-termer.

His grandfather's plan to participate in overthrowing our democratically elected government failed, but maybe W has a chance to succeed where his grandfather failed.

Also, if current trends continue for much longer, all that was gained as a result of the New Deal will have been reversed. The costs of unending wars, coupled with the impending demise of Medicare (which will fail much sooner than Social Security), and the deferred costs of repairing/replacing deteriorated infrastructure (the deferred maintenance cost now estimated at one trillion dollars) will all come due at the same time that the glut of baby boomers begin to retire (or rather, reach the age that the previous generation was able to retire).

Rush Limbaugh is quoted as saying, ""Roosevelt is dead. His policies may live but we’re in the process of doing something about that as well." George W. Bush & friends seem to be doing their very best to deliver on this promise.

We might also do well to consider a quote by George H. W. Bush in December, 1992, when he was interviewed by Sarah McClendon --"Sarah, if the American people had ever known the truth about what we Bushes have done to this nation, we would be chased down in the streets and lynched." Remember that W didn't announce his intent to run against Ann Richards for Governor of Texas until 1994, nearly two years later.

Does anyone actually think that Rush or H. W. were kidding?

"We really should draft liberals. Show them what it’s like to serve.
Liberals like Romney's 5 sons and the rest of the able bodied, military age members of the Romney and Bush clan.

Now that Bush has broken the back of the military, there really isn't much option left but a draft. Unless, of course, we deploy out of Iraq which is not a likely scenario any time soon.

A draft, however, would end the war in Iraq a lot sooner.

Cheney is a war monger. He wants to go to Iran for oil. He gets a million dollars as his annual pension from Halliburton who is the largest defense contractor in Iraq.

I refuse to fight in a war started by those who refused to fight in a war.
protest sign in DC 2007.

Amen. And only the draft will get enough citizens up in arms that the marches cannot be ignored on the news like they are now.

Bush avoided combat service in Iraq. He won't bring the draft back. He will continue to send the same tired, exhausted troops back to Iraq. He doesn't care for the troops.

We need to bring back the draft so that all parents in the US, not just parents whose children would like to enlist, start paying attention to the war. It is the only way to protect those soldiers from being used on a never ending basis. These ceaseless tours are as abusive as any human rights violations.

Americans need a wake up call and they will only wake up when these manufactured wars touch their lives.

Hell, if the war in Iraq means so much to the security of the US then it makes sense to bring back the draft.

Of course, the war in Iraq has less than f*ck all to do with the security of the US.

#175: Very true. But I demand a great deal from my Representatives; I expect them to walk and chew gum at the same time. But it will short-circuit some of the "let's give it another six months" argument. The challenge is Bush/Cheney policy, not the War--believe it on not. Remember Hmm, the more the guilty talk, the more they implicate themselves.
