Wilson successfully debunked the false claim that Saddam tried to buy yellow cake uranium from Niger – the 16 words removed from the SOTU speech.

However, the Honorable Ambassador Wilson was sent on his mission to Niger in late February of 2002, slightly more than a year before the invasion. Prior to the invasion (January through February of 2003), he wrote two op-ed pieces and gave two interviews in which he opposed the invasion, but completely accepted the idea that Iraq had banned weapons. We never heard a single word from the Honorable Mr Wilson about what he didn’t find in Niger until July of 2003, three months after the invasion, when his words would do no good — other than to undermine the administration — but also after he could be fairly certain that our troops on the ground weren’t going to find anything to contradict his claims.

He opposed the invasion, so where was he with his information concerning Iraq’s attempts to purchase “yellowcake” before the invasion, when such could actually have made a difference?

Dana, please refer to Patrick Fitzgerald’s quote, #72 above. He is, after all, under our system of law, the last word on the legal details of this case. And, as I’m sure you are well-aware, but pretending to forget, part of the reason indictments were NOT issued was the obstruction of justice by Scooter Libby. That is why Fitzgerald asked for the maximum sentense, if you remember.

Actually, under our system of laws, the final word on the legal details are the courts — and Mr Fitzgerald was unable to even bring an indictment.

My friends on the left are all using the mantra that Lewis Libby’s obstruction prevented further prosecutions, but both Richard Armitage and Karl Rove admitted that they had discussed Mrs Wilson’s CIA connection with reporters, and Mr Armitage’s conversation with Bob Woodward is on tape. It’s difficult to see how Mr Libby could have obstructed anything there.

His wife, Valerie Plame Wilson, is a true American patriot.

If she were not covert the CIA would allow the publishing of her book.

All CIA officers, covert or otherwise, sign consent forms which state that the Agency has the right of prior review for any books or articles to be submitted for publication.

The real reason is simple: Mrs Wilson, though still classified as a NOC by the CIA, really did not meet the requirements of the law for prosecution of divulging her identity under the IIPA
