There have only been four instances in which one party completely swept to power in congress (well, four since the direct election of senators began anyways). 1952, 1954, 1994 and 2006. Forget about 1994 and 2006 and we’ll talk about 1952 and 1954.

In 1952, the American people, fed up with the Truman administration (which held the previous record for lowest approval ratings) swept the Democrats out of Congress and the White House (electing Dwight Eisenhower in a landslide), filling it with Republicans that would “fix the problem”. Low and behold, the Republican controlled government sucked ass and two years later, the Democrats swept back into power in Congress, control that would last exactly forty years.

This congress has passed one piece of meaningful legislation (minimum wage increase) and wasted a whole lot of time passing non-binding resolutions (as well as wasting our money, since we pay their salaries). So all the people who fervently believe that the dems are going to stay in power a long time, don’t be so sure. Hilary Clinton (who will likely get the nomination, which drives me nuts ) is a polarizing figure. Fred Thompson (who will likely ride his Law & Order fame and Reagan like outsider status to the nomination) is not, at least not yet. The Deomcratic congress has the lowest approval rating in the history of Congress and seems more concerned with improving their public appearance than doing anything useful (impeachment anyone?).

This was originally a post about the media’s love fest for Karl Rove, how it degenerated into a hate fueled discussion of gay rights, bigotry and vitriol is beyond me. I watched Countdown last night, the Daily Show, read three dozen articles about the resignation and heard a lot of different viewpoints. Some people love Karl Rove, some hate him. If you don’t like the mainstream media, change the channel, or better yet, turn off the tv. People are allowed to have their opinions, not matter how much you may disagree with them.

I haven’t watched his pathetic propaganda extravaganza
for over a year now. Praise Jupiter for the ability to block
certain worthless programs from even tuning in on the cable

Rove did every evil deed he could think of to bring the Republic
to its knees, and bring about a New Right Wing American Reich.
And now that the American people see these thugs in their
true light, Rove will get his wish. The only problem is, the one
Party rule will be by the Democrats. And that will be what the
history books will remember him for. In the end, people like Shizer Blossom have brought about the utter collapse of the so called,
“Family Values” Party, and helped expose the Right for the evil

Is it me, or did these two talking heads imply that Bush is not smart? (Not that I disagree, I just think it’s funny that they say these things on the air without realizing the implications)

Also, I have to agree with Andrew Sullivan. For someone who is supposedly a political genius (and should know better,) Rove managed to damage the reputation of the Bush clan, the Republican party, and the standing of the US in the world. Not to mention alienating the current administration from other Republicans and social conservatives. Unless, of course, that was his actual goal all along.

With Rove as a friend, who needs enemies.

Here’s hoping Leahy and Conyers persist in keeping him subpoenaed until he testifies and, perhaps, gets to joining some of his Republican colleagues in jail.
