In a letter released today by VoteVets, twenty veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan write to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, asking him to call on Bush to release documents related to the death of Pat Tillman. “We know that the National Football League is not in the business of partisan politics, nor should it be,” the letter states. “However, in this case…the House committee requests were signed by both the Democratic Chairman and Republican Ranking Member, so this is not a partisan witch-hunt, but merely a quest to get to the truth about the death of Pat Tillman.”
UPDATE: In its press release, VoteVets cites arguments made by ThinkProgress commenters. Check it out here.
Sounds good to me. Still can’t understand why this s/b covered by EP for Bushco’s sake.
August 13th, 2007 at 4:16 pmMike Ditka is working to get the public behind healthcare for oldtime NFL players. The NFL should get behind the investigation into one of their player’s death. Pat Tillman made the ultimate sacrifice for the country he loved. We all owe the truth to his memory and his family.
August 13th, 2007 at 4:20 pmBush shot himself in the foot by claiming EP on this matter.
:-)
August 13th, 2007 at 4:23 pmI hope it works. Good luck!
August 13th, 2007 at 4:27 pmThank God that KKKarl was not the foot shooter, he would hit about six feet off of the ground and get to be President.

Projecting again? As expected.
August 13th, 2007 at 4:37 pmCovering up the murder of your War Hero is un-American. But very Bush like. Bush and his suporters are America’s enemies.
August 13th, 2007 at 4:37 pmThere’s no doubt that Bush was told of Tillman’s death and the circumstances within hours. Perhaps military officials were not sure if it was fratricide so Bush probably said keep it under wraps until everyone writes their reports, knowing that would take some time.
August 13th, 2007 at 4:39 pm—————————–
Why would anyone really think that people in the executive branch of the government would provide truthful, complete, and accurate information about this or anything???
I don’t expect this any longer. The last hopeful embers of belief that anyone in the administration had even a small part of decency, honesty, or respect for the Constitution has evaporated here.
PS: I’m a veteran and almost want to vomit at the stunning disregard of the Constitution and, relating to being a veteran, for real soldiers by this administration. There’s simply too much to mention. Just too much.

August 13th, 2007 at 4:53 pmI’m a vet also. You’re correct; this administration’s has weakend this nation by its total disregard of the Constitution. Patriotism is a word Bush uses but does not understand.

VoteVets is made up of Veterans who fought for this country.
Something I doubt you ever did, troll.
They are more American than you are.

Well, I didn’t exactly call you a troll, and then perhaps it is Mr. p who has borrowed your modus operandi in the past.
August 13th, 2007 at 5:14 pmI was rattling the bushes, so to speak, and hey, guess what?
It worked!

It is exactly this type of “bush rattling” that has ruined this site. Think Progress used to have a good reputation. Now, many serious posters are abandoning it because of the incessant troll fighting. It appears that for some troll fighting is more fun than discussing the very serious situation our nation finds itself in.
Good luck with your battle.
August 13th, 2007 at 5:33 pmAll US military personnel are unAmerican! All libs are unAmerican!
We will conquer the world! LONG LIVE THE REICH WING!!
August 13th, 2007 at 5:39 pm“It appears that for some troll fighting is more fun than discussing the very serious situation our nation finds itself in.”
OK, I concede, and admit that I come here for some wit and witlessness when I weary of the tedious pounding of heads against the wall of serious discussion on other, more regimented sites.
August 13th, 2007 at 5:42 pmGood luck with your battle.
Comment by Administrator1 — August 13, 2007
This isn’t the battle, sir, this is just blowing off steam from the frustrations and stress of the real battle, out on the streets, and in the woods.
The real battle of living and practicing democracy, and respecting others no matter their station in lifre, or their religious beliefs.
Maybe it’s time you took a break from your administrative position, take a vacation, and when you come back spend a year or three on the assembly line, or out in the fields, or in the classroom with the people who make your position possible.
Just a suggestion.

Votevets are this, votevets are that.
That’s the way neocons support the troops. They support the troops if and only if they agree with the cult leader.

Well, now there you go again with the assumptions. The “Administrator1″ simply means that I administer a website, a fact that you could have ascertained by clicking on it. The Admin part becomes a portion of the email address.
My guess is that you are part of Generation Y, the twenty somethings. I’m sure you’ll say I’m wrong.
I spent 31 years teaching in the public school classroom. I retired recently on a woefully inadequate pension. My life has been spent in altruism, putting that which is good for society ahead of personal gain. As a progressive liberal, I continue to devote my time and energy to the public good.
Snap judgments are often very, very wrong.

August 13th, 2007 at 6:28 pmGOOD LUCK. One of the NFL’s majore advertisers is the US. Military. Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines recruiting ads are all over NFL broadcasts. The NFL is about money, and loves to use military and pseudo-patriotic slogans/campaigns to further its image and sales. Vote Vets is likely to be disappointed on this one.
August 13th, 2007 at 6:41 pmJ. Meister, that’s a very good point. Nobody likes to embarass a sponsor who spends millions helping you bring your product to the public.
August 13th, 2007 at 6:58 pmsomewhat off topic, but VET related…
caller just now to sam seder on randi rhodes show…
evidently a soldier… he basically told sam that he shouldnt be talking about the stories about walter reed, lost benefits, and other scandals associated with the military, because it hurts recruitment…
i swear… he said “we tell them one thing… tell them they will be taken care of… the military will take care of you… … and then they see these stories… and find out that’s not what happens… and they don’t want to join…” (paraphrasing)
sam couldn’t keep him on the line, begged off, saying he didn’t know where the guy was going… but it was fairly surreal…
the guy sounded like he was trying to intimidate the messeger…
August 13th, 2007 at 7:08 pmvery weird…
.
I recently heard a “military expert”, on a local radio show, say that the most important thing about the next 6 months in Iraq is “how it is reported”. One would hope that our leaders would be more concerned with good results than good P.R.

you think anyone cares what b’llsh’t you post?
August 13th, 2007 at 9:02 pmTillman’s family needs to know why Pat Tillman died. This should be a bipartisan issue. Every democrat and every republican should want to know why the Pentagon tried to cover up the fratricide and pass it off as friendly fire.
August 13th, 2007 at 11:13 pmForget the NFL front office. They are probably all “loyal Bushie” fat cats.
On the other hand, if there are any patriots in the NFL, players and managers alike, Democrat, Republican, or Independent, who don’t want one of their fallen NFLers “clipped” by the Republicans in the White House, they should petition “as one united voice” for the White House to come clean over the death of Pat Tillman.
If they don’t, then the NFL players and managers, by remaining silent, are indicating that they are siding with the cover-up of Pat Tillman’s death and condoning the actions of the worst and most corrupt administration in American history.
It’s as simple as that.
August 14th, 2007 at 12:18 amHere is my question:
Where are the other troops that where there? Who fired the rounds that killed him? Why don’t we hear about that?
