    I was right –

    Deadly blasts target Iraqi sect

At least 20 people have been killed and 70 wounded in three suicide blasts in northern Iraq that targeted the Yazidi religious sect.

Police said three suicide bombers driving fuel tankers attacked Yazidis in three different parts of Mosul, 390km north of Baghdad, detonating their vehicles in quick succession.

Yazidis are a primarily Kurdish sect that worships an angel figure considered to be the devil by some Muslims and Christians.

The have been a frequent target of violence in northern Iraq.

    Stoning deaths

In April a Yazidi teenager who had recently converted to Islam was reportedly stoned to death after she fell in love with a Muslim and ran off with him.

The incident appears to have sparked an increase in attacks on Yazidis.

Police said 18-year-old Duaa Khalil Aswad was killed by relatives who disapproved of the match.

A grainy video showing gruesome scenes of the woman’s killing was later distributed on Iraqi websites, but its authenticity could not be independently verified.

Two weeks later, assailants shot and killed 23 Yazidis execution-style after stopping their bus and separating out followers of other faiths.

The killings were was believed to have been retaliation for the woman’s death.

    Kirkuk killings

The bodies of two Yazidi men who had been stoned to death were also found in the northern city of Kirkuk on Tuesday, police said.

They had been kidnapped while they were travelling to Baghdad to sell olives.

Police Brigadier-General Sarhat Qadir said Akbar Hassan and Ayad Khadir had been kidnapped by al-Qaeda-linked fighters

They took them to the predominantly Sunni village of al-Saeeda and ordered the residents to stone them because they were “infidels”, police said.

The villagers refused, so the fighters killed the men themselves, Qadir said.

After seeing what happened under Saddam, I suspect that there will be a mass relo and casualties would not exceed 20,000.

The reason that the US would have to move forces into the Kurdish regions is that Turkey has to be held at bay or the worst case of genocide in human history would occur if they were not there.

You ALWAYS mess up. You’re just usually too stupid to notice.

Tobey, you should have noted that these are 699 deaths since the surge. 699 totally beyond unnecessary.

#16 – interesting post tobey – unbelievable – stonings still go on – how would anybody expect to help “liberate” a people who bludgeon a girl to death with rocks because she happens to like a fellow countryman with a different religious belief? – can’t bush get a clue from this sort of insanity that maybe these people can’t be reasoned with?

Yah or how about those students that walk into their schools and shoot 13 of their classmates, get what I’m saying? Why does America or anyone seem to think it’s any better than anyone else?

And the people doing that shooting are from middle class, white Christian homes.

Remember, this is the troll who, as Mr P, rejoices in the death of every Iraqi…

I’ll stand by my estimate of 20,000. There are times when fear overtakes fanaticism. That is the fundamental reason that the Palestinians left Palestine in the late 40’s.

    >This is good news since it makes Bush look bad.

No, its just reality. Reality makes bush look bad. If we don’t publicize reality, people will go through thier lives living (and voting) in a fantasy world where they never have to understand the consequences of their actions.

The surge has been unable to decrease the violence in Iraq. This policy is so flawed that the Joint Chiefs of Staff advised against the surge as did Gen. Casey.

    What????

Was the US and other countries still providing assitance or support??????

Please provide something that represents what we are talking about here….

You are talking about a TRUE vacuum where the soviets pulled out and NO ONE was around to ensure that the Afgans managed themselves properly…..

What your suggesting is that the US REMOVE ALL TROOPS AND SEND THEM BACK TO THE US…….

What most people are suggesting is a REDEPLOYMENT!!!! That does not mean bringing them all here to the US…….

    BIG DIFFERENCE!!!!!

Your example shows your ignorance and stupidity……

    Redeploying to where exactly?

And if we leave Iraq how do we make sure everyone plays nice?

How do you expect us to provide assistance without having the military there to protect it?

You want a good example of what happens to a nation in conflict when we pull out and abandon it? Lets all go down memory lane to your favorite defeat. Vietnam…. anyone here remember how that turned out? In case you never knew or have had your memory eaten away by drug abuse, here is a good article that might give you a glimpse of what might happen.

    http://www.americanthinker.com/2007/03/the_current_meaning_of_vietnam.html

The surge is working and it scares the hell out of you…. Just because we run into some adversity does not mean that we pack it up and quit. I’m guessing in all of your lives you have had to deal with some type of setback… if you let it, it can destroy you…… but most overcome setbacks and become stronger for it. As a nation we cannot curl up into the fetal position and lay in the corner.

I hate the fact we are losing brave men and women everyday… but unlike Vietnam these brave men and women are volunteers. They feel a duty to serve. I know there are plenty who have served before them who say they are antiwar… my guess is they were drafted and never volunteered. In those circumstances I could see a resentment, if you had no sense of duty.

Why are you liberals all cheering for the muderous insurgents in that country? You take such glee in articles like this. YOU ARE SICK.
