Cheney’s chief of staff more powerful than Bush’s.

In GQ magazine’s inaugural “50 Most Powerful People in D.C.” list, which hits newsstands later this month, Vice President Cheney’s chief of staff, David Addington, is ranked higher at number seven than both the outgoing Karl Rove and current White House chief of staff Joshua Bolten, who are placed at nine and sixteen respectively. GQ associate editor Greg Veis explained Addington’s placement to the Reliable Source:

He has done more than anyone else in government to provide the administration with its (sometimes dubious) legal justifications for expanding executive authority.

UPDATE: Here’s GQ’s full list.

The chief of staff for the shadow president is more powerful than the chief of staff for the ceremonial president? This isn’t surprising.

  2. sami says:

While it may (or may not) be correct, I would hardly quote GQ as a go-to source on power politics in Washington. What’s next – People rates Cheney as sexier than Bush?

  3. katy says:

    so… this isn’t necessarily a list of GOOD people…

  4. Mugsy says:

MissMolly beat me to it. :)

Just goes to show that Cheney has been the real president all along.

Correct, just don’t tell George W., OK?

Just think — if Scooter Libby hadn’t gone down, we wouldn’t have had David Addington wouldn’t have stretched executive authority to dictatorial proportions.

Nah — probably would have happened anyway. This is, after all, Cheney we are talking about.

  10. missmolly says:

Forgive the bad grammar in my last post — I’m not sufficiently caffeinated yet. It should have read:

Just think — if Scooter Libby hadn’t gone down, we wouldn’t have had David Addington around to stretch executive authority to dictatorial proportions.

  12. missmolly says:

And how come neither Bush nor Cheney appears on the list? Were they exempt from consideration, or does GQ just consider them empty suits surrounded by powerful people?

You would think that if GQ looked on them as empty suits, they would at least have commented on the suits themselves…

Of course GQ isn’t a credible source. It’s more along the lines of People Magazine’s 50 Most Beautiful People issue. That doesn’t mean we can’t have some fun with it. Lighten up.

So this is why Rove is leaving? He is too ashamed to be seen around DC with only a #9 ranking.

  17. Yikes says:

Dr. Dumb Dog thinks this post is supposed to tell us about some truth about who is powerful in DC. He is so caught up in being a dumb con that he can’t see that the post is intended to show just how stupid media is and how gullible americans are to read and believe this shiite. Dumb cons.

and George Bush isn’t a real president. Cowardly rightard idiot ball-licker.

Jon Stewart destroyed Bill Kristol last night, though, he’s much more of a journalist than any of the Bush-fellating corporate whores in the MSM. GQ has a lot more credibility than FOX Traitors as well. You’re weak today, dog, go sniff some repig butts.

does this mean more influence than gonzo???

i’m confused about what addington could have done without gonzo…
or was gonzo just carrying out the orders?…

  21. ronjazz says:

Hillary is going to be the Democrat nominee, old hack. And she’s going to go down in flames to either Giuliani or Thompson. She’s going to drag down congressional dems with her.

thanks for ‘06. giuliani/Thompson are already dead in the water. one’s a cross-dressing Nazi, one’s a lazy-ass pedophile. good luck with that, although I can see their appeal to an America-hater like you.

GQ is far more relevant than the NAZI FOX propaganda channel you idiots get your disinformation from, and that’s a fact.

going down on each other is the repig way. They can’t help their perversions. They’re just sick haters.

  30. VerbalKint says:

Addington is also a big proponent of torture. He is truly a bad person. But you would have to be a bad person to work for Dick Cheney.

  31. Bruce Gorton says:

    old hack

He is advocating a change in tax system just when America’s debt position has never been worse.

Arguments over “fair” taxes aside, you change tax systems when you have enough money to last through the highly confused changeover period, not when you are deeply in debt.

  32. Pretty Pretty Bird says:

Ronboy, poster child for impotence and hysterical ranting. When he isnt stalking an elementary school, that is.

whatsamatter, birdbrain, did your PO erase your porn sites URLs? go back to trying to find you microdick with a magnifying glass. You’re not wanted or needed here, this is for people who can think for themselves; no Republican tools necessary. Weaker and weaker you get.

  34. missmolly says:

“does this mean more influence than gonzo???”

    Comment by katy — August 14, 2007 @ 10:22 am

Must be — Gonzo didn’t even make the list. Hmmm…GQ may think he’s toast, but he’s going to be running the newly expanded FISA. We should probably be worried.

As far as whether or not Gonzo was just following orders — when you saw the video of him testifying before the Senate, did this look like a man who thought for himself, or like a man who was following orders (and afraid of the order-givers)?

  35. Pretty Pretty Bird says:

Manlicker, you havent put in a form to allow posting. Please do so before posting any more rants.

Now get back under the sink. Twat head.

  36. Bruce Gorton says:

    Pretty Pretty Bird

Please stop talking to yourself. Its creepy.

  37. ronjazz says:

The upside of Gonzo running FISA is that his incompetence will lead to nothing, save perhaps another attack, like Bush allowed. this time they’ll get the White House, so no damage of consequence, since the Bushies have turned it into Corruption Central.

  38. ronjazz says:

Rove will be trolling here in a matte of days. he’s as twisted as any of the rightard cowards who show up here to rant and rave in their frustration with being lifelong losers and airheads.

  39. katy says:

did this look like a man who thought for himself, or like a man who was following orders (and afraid of the order-givers)?
    Comment by missmolly — August 14, 2007 @ 10:29 am

definitely the latter… and yes, i am worried…
because gonzo is strictly the “ceremonial” head of FISA now…
still the same puppet master… my guess…

  40. DRxJ says:

Dr. Dog and Pretty Petty Bird,
Since you are here to inform and debate with your excellent skills, please provide us the favor of explaining your feelings regarding the fact that Dick Cheney, Vice President, has done more than anyone else in government to provide the administration with its (sometimes dubious) legal justifications for expanding executive authority?

thank you in advance for your well thought out, and researched answer.

  41. katy says:

you really care what they think, doc?

more RATwing talking point lies, is what they think…

    ugh…

  42. Crump's Other Brother says:

    Dr. William Dog,

“Liberals think GQ is a credible journalistic source.”

Conservatives think Fox News is a credible journalistic source.

  43. Barry says:

Rove loses We win. His era is gone. End of story. He was a hack political strategist who divided a country the most since the civil war. Good ridence.

  44. DRxJ says:

A little over an hour ago, I respectfully asked for our two trolls their opinion on this particular thread.
    There response?

    Nothing.
Typical, and not surprising in the least.

  45. again says:

DRxJ – I guess you already know how evil Dick is. sorry I mistook you for a republicant defender.

  46. yep says:

Dr Dog – GQ and Stewart are both much more credible than Fox. Weekly World News and Spiderman comics are more credible than Fox, for that matter.

  47. missmolly says:

Remember this from TP on Tuesday?

    http://thinkprogress.org/2007/08/14/cheneys-chief-of-staff-more-powerful-than-bushs/

Even though he’s dead, Reagan landed in the #13 spot of most powerful people in Washington. You gotta admit that’s impressive.
