“No,UFTS, they never read the names of the cannonfodder.”

Back in May, 2004, Nightline had a show featuring nothing but the reading of the names of the fallen, along with their pictures. Even then, the right wingers were jeering and name-calling, saying that it made their Chimpanzee look bad.

  18. RUCerious Says:

  24. Jackie Says:

As the number of deaths continue everyone is on vacation. 6 more soldiers died today. How any soldiers have to die before Americans say enough is enough or will we let the Bush Administration continue to let our troops die in larger numbers. I’m beginning to feel like no one really cares at all.

  25. Deadsoldiersmakealibsday Says:

TP missed the boat on sensationalizing this expected non-story because what TP was really after was a “milestone” of deaths for US soldiers. TP blew it: you should’ve posted this article only if it would’ve been about 4000 dead US SOLDIERS. That way, your base of anti-war/anti-US libs and progressives would’ve been really excited and probably masturbating along to this dire news. What libs and progs -refuse to understand is that death is an irreversible part of war. Therefore, these 4000 coalition deaths–libs have to acknowledge that there actually IS a coalition in Iraq, contrary to their slurs about the US going it alone–are expected. The problem with war coverage is not the deaths: it’s psychotically breathless counts of every, single death by the lib media to gross out the US public’s war support. Finally, these deaths are ALL worth it because the surge is working as evidenced by less deaths in Baghdad and more Sunnis actually fighting Al-Qaeda in Anbar.

  26. RUCerious Says:

I find the trolls propensity to compare WWII and Iraq laughable.
They are correct in only one respect.
Hitler invaded and occupied Poland, and eastern Europe so get their oil resources. Bush invaded and occupied Iraq to get their oil resources.
    Other than that, zilch.

Bush sure knows how to lose $12,000,000,000
Bush sure knows how to lose 190,000 weapons
Bush sure knows how to lose the hearts and minds of Iraqi’s

I could go on for hours…..

  30. UpFromTheSkies Says:

I notice JPark that you’re using the word “casualties” when you come up with that number of over one million for WWII. The actual battle deaths for the U.S. military according to the Department of Defense in World War II was 291,557. Other deaths in service (nontheater) amounted to 113,842. And nonmortal woundings were 671,846.

If you want to count up all the casualties suffered by the U.S. in Iraq including the dead and wounded, you’d probably be well over 30,000 by now.

  95. Democrat Soldier Says:

It’s the neo-cons that orchestrated this war that don’t seem to care about how many soldiers or Iraqi civilians die, just so long as we keep the oil rolling into Haliburton.

It’s the neo-cons that refused to properly armor our soldiers and their vehicles, increasing the death count that could have been reduced by expending money on our troops safety.

It’s the neo-cons that equate questioning of the administration and their egregious actions with “anti-American”.

I can’t wait for a Democratic President to labele all questioners as “anti-American” when are in office. The Christian attitude is to treat people as you want to be treated. That means all the neo-cons want to be labeled anti-American, tortured, sent to prosecute wars of occupation and have their family killed on the battlefield, all legislation held up by threats of veto and filibustered.

No, it’s what you call it when soldiers die because their vehicle wan’t properly armored.

  98. alex Says:

Tobey Tall is right: the death/suffering of “contractors” is a major untold story. Some are military mercenaries, others are simply civilian workers brought into the combat zone to do work formerly done by soldiers. Many severely wounded will suffer with no acknowledgment nor long-term care for their disabilities. It’s one of the grimmer sides of the “privitization” of the military. Needless to say, there are huge profits involved, often concealed behind military secrecy.

I can’t wait for a Democratic President to labele all questioners as “anti-American” when are in office.

Then you will be waiting a while. Hillary is going to be your nominee, whether you like it or not, and even demorats dont want to vote for her. Nothing will bring out conservative voters like putting the name “Hillary Clinton” on the ballot.

    Youre done in ‘08.

You are suggesting that our troops are crybabies if they complain about improperly armored vehicles????? You’re right — if they aren’t total wimps, they should be willing to fight with unarmored vehicles, weapons that jam, and long deployments with little respite in between. They should be willing to die in somebody else’s civil war. Can’t imagine why more people aren’t signing up!

Heh. GOP is done now, forever. Suck on that, pissy.

  107. DanCaveman Says:

#60 - Your comment disgusts me. I can’t believe that you are actually implying that I ENJOY troop deaths? Is that really your argument? Why not look at the facts and see why we “libs” are against this war (along with many fed up republicans and a great number of veterans - including Iraq vets). Then make an argument showing WHY we are wrong. The facts show little improvement and as more and more evidence shows, we were deliberately lied into a war that was not only unnecessary, but dangerous. It was dangerous to the Middle East that was making good progress towards westernization (democracy) until WE attacked Iraq. Even more disturbing, is that it was EXTREMELY dangerous for the United States AND CHENEY and the Bush administration knew it - he said exactly what would happen on August 15, 1994 when asked why they didn’t invade Baghdad.

Besides all of these facts, you choose to try to demonize me and others of my view - How many friends and comrades have you loaded on a medevac helicoptor? How many caskets of your good friends have you carried because of this war? Well if the answer is zero, then maybe you should sign your butt up to fight for this glorious war instead of championing it like you are a hero. Instead you “stand behing” WAY BEHIND other people who are going back into combat AGAIN AND AGAIN without enough rest. You are certainly noble.

Good post Dan, but this is unfortunately, the typical behavior of the Chickenhawk trolls here, following the Chickenhawk BushCo talking points from the soon-to-depart rover.

But you do have to admire their devotion to duty from behind their M-79 keyboard/grenade launchers from mom’s bunker (basement).

  109. Cynicon Implant Says:

I don’t understand the “chickenhawk” argument. Are you saying that unless I sign up to fight I can’t have a legitimate pro-war position? Why is that?

By that reasoning, unless you go have an abortion you can’t be pro-choice.

    Makes no sense to me.

  110. RUCerious Says:

Here’s a trivia question for the chickenhawks:

How many rotations does it take to arm an M-79 grenade?
    What’s the purpose of that?

  111. Bob Says:

For libs the Iraq death count is like when Mcdonalds use to advertise one billion hamburgers served.

    US 4000 soldiers died!

Our US soldiers are just a number to them as they feign indignation.

The difference is, I served my country in combat and you didn’t. I was capable of serving and did, you are capable of serving and don’t. ANd I, as a man, can’t have an abortion, but you, as a man, are the one speaking out against it (As are most of the anti-choicers: Men whose bodies aren’t impacted by that choice.)

Does that reasoning work for you?

Actually, I’m pro-choice and I too find it annoying that the idiots you see protesting in front of clinics are heavily men.

But back to the chickenhawk thing… why do you think that the founding fathers gave civilians authority over the military?

  114. nanlichi Says:

It’s just a number, just a comma. Bush and his smaglicking defenders don’t care about the soldiers, they will gladly throw our country’s finest soldiers and $10 billion a week away so they don’t have to admit that Bush was dead wrong.

Please, a little more dead and a little less wrong there Chimp.

  115. upyernoz Says:

didn’t it actually hit 5000? i mean, as of last june there have been 1001 private u.s. contractors killed in iraq. the private security services are also part of the coalition.

No, they gave it to the Executive Branch, which at the time was to have a REAL man in the office. General Washington, as I recall, actually did log some combat time. Plus, they never dreamed we would have such incompetent scumbags in the WH and idiots who voted them in - TWICE, when they wrote that.

  117. DanCaveman Says:

By the way Bob, (#112) my questions were also for you.

You so easily question my concern for the troops and insult me as to think I like the fact I have had friends die on the battlefield. Great friends that, as well as I, would lay there lives down - again and again - for the ideals of this country; however, they were in a battlefield that they should not have been on. The results of which are doing more to HARM the ideals they died for and I would gladly give mine.

I would re-sign in a heartbeat if I thought this were the major threat to our country - the problem is the major threat is here at home while our bravest men have been sent to a far off land by those who are the most dangerous and continue to dismantle our great country.

I want the US to be the Hero NOT the bully!

VERY well said, Dan. And exactly the feelings I had upon returning from Vietnam. Too bad we don’t learn from our mistakes.

Back at Ya! We need more of the current vets to come forward, like yourselves.

It saddens me to say, that I was telling all my friends at the run-up tp the Iraq invasion, that this had Vietnam Deja Vu written all over it, and most of them thought I was suffering from a delayed Agent Orange reaction or combat flashback.

Now, it is too eerily similar.

I remember the Gulf of Tonkin incident like it was yesterday…
So many people (self included) sucked it up like sweet, sweet kool aid…

  123. Namtillaku Says:

George W. Bush, and those in the administration who decided to attack Iraq in order to occupy it, ignoring Osama bin Laden, are 100% to blame for each of those 4,000 deaths. They should be publicly hung - yet there they are, still in power. Disgusting.

  124. Probus Says:

We have lost more American in this unnecessary war than we lost on 9-11.

Big Ben L. has killed to date, over 7,000 humans, so if he can keep you engaged in battle, he’s winning by killing you on his land, why travel accross the oceans when you can do it in your own backyard and hide.
