Leahy is smart to do this. If Gonzales broke the law he should be indicted for perjury. On its own Congress should look at impeachment on the grounds of perjury and obstruction of justice. While Bush might not take these charges seriously (Libby) these are serious violations of law. Gonzales is unworthy of the office he occupies.

Is this not where a special prosecutor comes in ? The DOJ IG works under “Ah-fuh-gotso” Gonzales.How can the inspector gen be impartial.
If the Doj inspector gen is worth is salt he would call in a special prosecutor.

This makes sense but is just plain wrong (at least the first part):

Don’t think it is going to happen. Just got this from Wikipedia:

The OIG conducts independent investigations, audits, inspections, and special reviews of United States Department of Justice personnel and programs to detect and deter waste, fraud, abuse, and misconduct, and to promote integrity, economy, efficiency, and effectiveness in Department of Justice operations.

Specifically excluded from the authority of the OIG is jurisdiction related to the criminal or ethical conduct of DOJ employees who are attorneys.
