The detainees were civilians so the Geneva Conventions certainly apply.

And as for who was doing the raping and the sodomising, it was the American prison guards, you know, the ones who were convicted and are now serving time in prison.

What convention are you referring to? Certainly not the Geneva, because it doesn’t apply.

A lot of the prisoners tortured at Abu Ghraib were civilians, caught in wide sweeps in Baghdad, including the women who were raped and the minors who were sodomised, and the man who was killed.

Any military occupier is bound by the conventions to treat civilians humanely. A systematic failure to do so constitutes a violation of the convention, and hence a war crime.

Yeah, especially since the American miltary is the only one to ever mistreat prisoners. Unprecedented! ;)

Even if that is true, it still constitutes a violation of the Geneva Conventions, and a war crime.
