Official army sites riskier to security than milbogs.»

Contradicting previous claims by the military that soldier’s personal blogs (milbogs) “needlessly place lives at risk,” a series of audits by the Army Web Risk Assessment Cell between January 2006 and January 2007 “suggests that official Defense Department websites post material far more potentially harmful than anything found on a individual’s blog.” The audits found “found at least 1,813 violations of operational security policy on 878 official military websites” compared to “28 breaches, at most, on 594 individual blogs during the same period.”

Nothing to see here, move on.. Go shopping and be vigilant for others not of the same color.

My favorite violation (typos in orig):

“In one incidence, we found a military web site that contained a document listing
addresses, room numbers and points of contact of safes that contained classified
    information.”

But won’t the milbogs expose the fabrications the fascist R media machine is trying to sell to the masses? Can’t have that.

  5. gfw Says:

wouldn’t it be milbLogs? With an “L”

  6. bilbobaggins Says:

How embarrassing. But, they won’t believe the findings. They want to control the message and they won’t be able to do that unless they can “prove” that the military blogs are a threat to our national security.

  7. cheney_usa Says:

    Sorry for the double post.

The blog violations were for stuff like showing an all blowed up humvee.

Can’t let the soldiers speak out — even when they are clearly not saying anything inappropriate. Why that’d let the terrorists win! But right-wing douche-bag reporters and official government personnel show mission routes on live TV, out CIA agents, talk about classified information to whomever they want (at any security clearance), and publish any information they want on any website, without a hint of oversight!

    Supportin’ tha troops!

  9. Doc Rock Says:

How ironic is it that those who risk their lives daily should be denied the basic right of freedom of speech while some desk jockey in DC piles up the violations? The Army is in such complete cover up mode that the leadership reeks of mendacity. It just doesn’t seem like the Army I was in 40 years ago.

    “1,813″ vs. “28″.

Gee, if reports like this start popping up, I might start to think that the Bush Administration is simply seeking to quash public military dissent.

    Nah! Not THIS President!

  11. Boobofeller Says:

A good video to see about the military trying to control the message is in Norman Solomon’s “War made easy”

Check it out in Google Videos.

Hmmm… this one has actual portions of the film, as opposed to the lecture I sent before. Easier to take in.

and now for something slightly different.

Army Wrong counters the “Army Strong” message that the Pentagon is spending $1.2 billion on.
