The AP reports that beginning next week, Jon Stewart’s The Daily Show will be airing reports from Iraq:
“The Daily Show with Jon Stewart,” whose phony news coverage has long included phony “remotes” from war-torn Iraq, will be reporting from Iraq for real next week.
Giving its green screen a temporary rest, the Comedy Central series will air “Operation Silent Thunder: ‘The Daily Show’ in Iraq,” several onsite dispatches filed by Senior War Correspondent Rob Riggle.
Riggle will provide what the network calls “in-depth coverage and insights from the front lines.” Scheduled to be back in New York this weekend, he begins his reports as soon as Monday.
UPDATE: Riggle, who joined the cast in 2006, is a major in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve who served in Liberia, Kosovo, and Afghanistan.

I don’t think any dedicated fan would argue that Stewart didn’t poke a hell of a lot of fun at John Kerry. He was, at times, merciless with Kerry. Now, it’s true that towards the end of the election, he stated that he would vote for Kerry, but that didn’t keep him from joking about him.

What makes Joh Stewart’s show so funny and so spot-on is that you truely have to know what’s going on in the news for the jokes to be in context.

Just last night they made fun of Hillary contradicting herself. Not only that, John McCain was the guest. For the 10th time. The show is not one-sided, (unless by one-sided you mean the intelligent side). You should watch it and find out before forming an opinion.

The critical difference between Jon Stewart and someone like Bill O’ is that he’s very respectful of everyone he has on the show and never resorts to childish tactics like shouting at people he disagrees with, or cutting off their microphone when they dare to contradict him.
Someone challenged Tracy to provide prove that the Daily Show “spins” the news. I say, put up or shut up. Since the bulk of the material on the show contains actual clips of politicians making fools of themselves, it’s pretty damn difficult for there to be any “spin.”
And, as noted many times before, the function of satire is to let the wind out of the power-bloated. For the last few years, the power-bloated have been exclusively Republicans, so it’s not surprising they should comprise the bulk of the targets.

Yea, buy the right wing after the show, which was quickly proved to be false.
They did it, because they were trying to compare the moron Bush to Abraham Lincoln, (too funny I know) and when Goodwin wrote a book pointing out that Lincoln staffed his cabinet with political opponents (a matter of recorded public history, didn’t need her to tell us and even if she did plagarize which she didn’t, that fact would not change) and it drove the pinheaded right wing nuts because the contrast to Bush, who ONLY surrounds himself with YES MEN.

I just wanted to be clear about the nature of the charges. She had duplicated nearly verbatim dozens of brief passages, often two or three sentence chunks, from other works, without attribution. Her excuse was that she had written these passages on 3×5 cards while reading these other works, then later had mistaken the words for her own. It is certainly plausible, but like I said it is sloppy scholarship. In any case, trying to use this as an excuse to discard her work as a whole is as ridiculous as trying to discard all of global warming theory over the minor correction recently announced by NASA on U.S. temperature records. So whereas Goodwin may have been very slightly intellectually dishonest, the right wing propangandists have clearly been monumentally dishonest in their attack on her. So I think we probably agree on the basics.

Actually, I think that examining the Goodwin incident vis a vis the Lincoln vs. Bush debate makes a fine digression for a TP thread. But, there was also a Princeton study a few years ago which led to the conclusion that Limbaugh’s listeners were most likely to be wrong on the facts pertaining to a given current affair, but at the same time, the most sure they had the facts right.
And, as I’ve already pointed out, there are scores of sites which document Rush’s lies. Just advance search at Google. Put lies in the first line and Rush Limbaugh in the second and you’ll see what I mean.

And, your link itself admits that MM was correct that there was no publication by the name O’Reilly gave. But, O’Reilly was wrong anyway. I dont totally disagree, for instance he total plays softball with Kristol.. however, if he grilled these people like a hawk, he’d never have any more of them on.. at least now we get to see them stammer and stutter (like that moron who insisted we shouldnt kill embryos but killing children in war is ok) or just plain say things that are obviously and foolishly wrong (like Bolton’s claims about Lincoln).

He has no guests, he does not do discourse, he rants. His voice is the only one he hears (oxycontin does destroy the hearing). There are non-violent drug offenders across florida doing stiff sentances for less than what he has pulled. Besides his vitriol, and the drug abuse, and the making fun of Parkinson victims, he is yet another three times divorced “family values” draft dodger. My religion is apposed to war so I don’t think anyone should go, but to the KIDS who strap on the boots and pick up the gun and defend this country; they give everything they have to give. Limbaugh pays back Casey Sheehan by calling his mom a dike, and we won’t even discuss Pat Tillman. And as for being for the little guy, see if that asshat will let you so much as clean the pool at his Palm Springs mansion, or his neighborhood harpie Coultergeist for that matter. I don’t care if you vote rethug, just find one with some damn honor.
