They forget. They were not elected to win a popularity contest, they were elected to PROTECT THE CONSTITUTION!

Who cares what they look like? If they bring articles of impeachment for Cheney and Chertoff, and a Congressional trial for Gonzales’ perjury, and they lock up Miers, Rove, and that other twit for contempt of Congress, even if they lose on everything, the Dems will gain the respect of the American people (some ofd them Conservative) for trying to do what they were sent to do–TELL THE EMPEROR HE HAS NO CLOTHES!

I hope the doorknob hits him on the way out.

If the Democrats let this get away, they can kiss off any hopes the American people have in them for any reform.

The very 1st poster, Menehune, had it right, if not misdirected. Leahy et al have continued to give ground and be humiliated by the WH & AG, it’s true.

It IS time for a (lot of) harsh letter(s) to be directed to Leahy and the rest of the Demo-Rats that are allowing/abetting the shredding of the constitution.

Their continued lack of action is just as problematic as the admin’s overt actions.

Write Leahy (his web site does allow out of state input) and tell him to ’saddle up’ the Sergeant-At-Arms and go get the the docs/hard drives and break out some handcuffs and throw the resistors into the Capitol Hill jail! Rove – Gonzalez – Cheney et al (perhaps some ‘non’ torture would clarify their recollections…?)

With all due respect…

“The time is up,” Senator Patrick J. Leahy of Vermont, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said after the 2:30 p.m. deadline passed. “The time is up. We’ve waited long enough.”

Mr. Leahy said he would bring up the administration’s stance before the full Senate when it reconvenes after Labor Day. He hinted at the possibility of seeking a contempt of Congress citation but emphasized, “I prefer cooperation to contempt.”

WTF!?

I must take issue with your assessment that ‘We’ve waited long enough.” YOU have waited far to long! For months you’ve allowed these criminals to continue to ‘kick the can down the road’ while they continue to withhold information, dismantle the constitution, and mock you, the Judiciary Committee, and we the people.

These criminals will not stick their heads in the noose and hand you the testimony, documentation, emails and hard drives that you need. SCREW seeking a contempt of Congress citation, what nonsense! Do you seriously think they give a rat’s ass?! You have to ’sack up’ and send the Sargent At Arms over there and TAKE Rove’s hard drives (before he leaves town) along with everyone else in the WH + the facilitators at the AG’s offices.

just give it up, announce your retirement and let someone that has the strength/resolve to ascend in VT that will ’stop the bleeding’.

Actually, the Office of the Vice-President was originally filled by the person that received to 2nd most number of electoral votes. This might be a more balanced approch because now, under the 25th Ammendment, only the Vice-President can begin the process of having the President declared incompetent. If you have a strong V.P., e.g., Cheney, and someone that really isn’t interested or up to the demands of the Office of the President, the V.P. simply manipulates the dufus at the top.
