In the first quarter of 2007, Fox News covered the war in Iraq half as much as rivals CNN and MSNBC. A new study, released today by the Project for Excellence in Journalism, finds that while Iraq coverage “fell sharply” across the board in the second quarter of 2007, the gap between Fox News and its rivals “remained and in some cases even widened“:

So is this Fox following the old saying, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all?”
August 20th, 2007 at 12:53 pmGee — you would think that with all this “real progress is being made”, “things are really improving”, and “we’re going to win”, that Fox would be spending more time on events in Iraq. I guess they can’t manufacture enough spin to fill up very much time.
August 20th, 2007 at 12:54 pmFDS-Fox Derangement Syndrome.
On one hand the libs tell us that FOX only serves some insignificant chunk of hick conservatives, on the other hand they fly into hysterics at the mere mention of FoxNews.
Maybe you just outlaw FOX and get it over with.
August 20th, 2007 at 12:57 pmYeah, gee, I wonder why polls show the American public is less opposed to the war than it was a couple months ago. Here’s a guess, it’s not being covered. “Out of sight, out of mind.”

BAGHDAD, Aug 17 (IPS) - The collapse of Iraq’s infrastructure has created a worsening water crisis that is killing untold numbers of Iraqis.

August 20th, 2007 at 1:00 pmTobey, are you in another country? Your postings always seem to have such an “international flair”. You also give some GREAT under-the-radar links..

August 20th, 2007 at 1:11 pmAccording to BushCo, things are improving in Iraq so shouldn’t Fox be giving equal time to the “good news” coming of Iraq? Why is Fox so pessimistic? Why does Fox hate the troops?
August 20th, 2007 at 1:11 pmI guess it’s true: No news is good news!
(And if you can’t pretend it’s good news, you just don’t report it.)
Most of the Fox-watchers probably don’t have a family member in Iraq, and thus they just don’t realize that they are being brainwashed and kept sedated.

Like the cons want to outlaw the “librul media”? Outlawing any news medium would violate the principles the people of our country have been fighting to maintain for 231 years. Yes, even if that medium broadcasts from an obvious political slant. Freedom of the press and freedom of speech permits this (until it libels private citizens). However, that same freedom of speech allows me to publicly disagree with the tripe that’s spewed forth.
August 20th, 2007 at 1:17 pmWhile they may not cover the war in Iraq, their coverage of the important issues of Anna Nicole Smith, animal attacks, and car chases is simply unparalleled.
August 20th, 2007 at 1:18 pmI love Fox “News”.
August 20th, 2007 at 1:25 pmI found out that waitresses are getting lower tips nowadays but strippers are doing just great by watching the Neil Cavuto business show on Fox.
Think I’m kidding?
See for yourself:

It would be interesting to see the level of Faux news’ coverage of the war during the initial invasion and the immediate aftermath; you know, before we found out that the invasion was based on lies, there were no WMD’s, there was no post war planning, etc. etc. etc.
That right there would be proof that Faux News is simply the propoganda wing of the neocon fascist party (as if any proof were necessary).

The only thing wrong with the statement was the insertion of the NEWS descriptor. That makes it null and void.
August 20th, 2007 at 1:26 pmI’m more worried about the physical condition of Brit Hume. The man is so morbidly constipated, his butthole puckering so much with ever-increasing uptightedness that any moment he could swallow his entire body down his sphincter, rapturing himself into a dimensionless mathematical point as well as anything around his event horizon including the camera, the stuidio, and even the American audience watching him at home on TV.
August 20th, 2007 at 1:28 pmbet they’ll cover THIS story:
ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE (Reuters) - U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Ryan Crocker and the top U.S. commander in Iraq, Gen. David Petraeus, will likely testify to Congress about progress in the war on September 11 or September 12, the White House said on Monday.

August 20th, 2007 at 1:43 pm…
Why should they since things are going so well???????!!!!
August 20th, 2007 at 1:54 pmBesides the war is such a downer.
Fox News must be shut down and its executives and reporters prosecuted for violations of international law (inciting the people to violence in the build-up to the Iraq invasion). Free speech does not protect outright lies and slander.
August 20th, 2007 at 1:57 pmWe’ve come a long way since the screaming eagles soaring across the screen to adrenaline-pumping adventure music. Yep, this is no longer the kind of war that makes great popcorn TV for red staters.
August 20th, 2007 at 2:17 pmLOL, love the poster who pointed out that Fox News is the most watch of any cable news network. Gripe all you want, but people would rather watch:
FOX NEWS
August 20th, 2007 at 2:22 pmThere is only one solution for Mr. Beck, the return of the Fairness Doctrine which states, “On controversial issues of public importance, broadcasters have the duty to seek out and broadcast contrasting points of view.” Now the problem is that the Communications Act of 1934 doesn’t apply to cable, but his radio and anything on broadcast television would trigger the act. Activists should consider going to cable franchise application public meetings and demand that your cable system provide some balance. Then again, Beck et. al. may have run their course–it may be best just to give them a mike and provoke them to do what they do best–commit cultural suicide. After all, when the electorate gave the Republicans a loaded electoral victory, they promptly put it to their collective heads and pulled the trigger.

Many more people watch Oprah [60 million+], what does that tell you? Yet the FOX trolls act as if they are more knowledgable on IRAQ. They can’t be!!
Nuff said.
August 20th, 2007 at 2:25 pmThis is the reason why we will be in Iraq at least until another President comes into office. Control the message and you control the masses. There won’t be any significant outrage among the people as long as coverage of this “war” continues to decline. Just think about people you know, casual acquaintances. Can they tell you how many servicemembers have died? Can they tell you anything about what’s going on in Iraq? Do they even care anymore? I would guess that Iraq isn’t really on their minds much unless they know someone over there.
August 20th, 2007 at 2:30 pmAll a matter of perspective. The liberal media is covering it twice as much as it needs to. Thanks FOX for being fair and balanced. Your enemies are jealous of your success.

The “feminist†radio company whose founders include Jane Fonda and Gloria Steinem failed to attract an audience and it signed off the air for good on Friday.
When the talk-radio network, called GreenStone, officially launched in September 2006, NewsMax reported that it was a “new left-wing radio network that plans to appeal to women listeners and counter the dominance of conservative talk radio.â€
GreenStone claimed it would deliver “de-politicized, de-polarized talk radio by women hosts for female listeners,†and Steinem said it would offer an alternative to current radio talk, which she described as “very argumentative, quite hostile, and very much male-dominated.â€
She also said radio was “overbalanced toward the ultra-right.†But “Greenstone Media’s brand of tepid liberalism didn’t appeal to women,†Carrie Lukas, author of “The Politically Incorrect Guide to Women, Sex and Feminism,†writes in the New York Post.
Greenstone offered interviews with such liberals as Ralph Nader, as well as segments on parenting and relationships.
But its programming was picked up by only eight affiliates in small to mid-sized markets, and its backers have now pulled the plug
August 20th, 2007 at 3:11 pmIt’s sad that CNN covers the war more than anyone, considering the fact that they hardly cover it at all.
August 20th, 2007 at 4:03 pmWhy is Fox even still around?
Fixed News won’t cover the war in Iraq because of the failure it has become. The surge has failed to bring the results Bush promised it would bring. They are a propaganda machine for Bush and thus have no credibility. They are not a news organization.

Whatever.
I’m still waiting on Fox News to report on the “thousands” of good news stories that some of the troops say exist in Iraq.
“Fair and Balanced” is not trashing a Democratic entertainer for voicing his political views on the “war” (”he’s an actor…what does he know about politics?”) yet days later inviting a Republican entertainer on the air and asking as one of the questions, “So what do you think about the war on terror?”
And Fox’s John Gibson, who surfs the Internet for story ideas and invites Danny Bonaduce on the air to find out why he posted shirtless pictures of himself on the Web, apparently thinks most of America gives a sh*t.
August 20th, 2007 at 5:57 pmWhat is there to report?
We caught Saddam, and we hung him - end of story.
August 21st, 2007 at 10:57 amGetting rid of Saddam has made us less safe. It has led to a power vacuum that Cheney warned us about. Our troops and their families have paid too high a price for his removal.
