Since our nominally Christian leaders believes they should recognize the Holiday, I would suggest we all request they truly honor the spirit and intent of it.

I believe we should urge the members of Congress and this administration, in the spirit of ecumenical brotherhood, to participate in Asseret Yemei Teshuva - The Ten Days of Repentance, starting at sunset on September 12. Ten days of self examination and repentance, in preparation for atonement for sins against G*d and their fellow man on Yom Kippur.

So George , when you give your report on the 15th, remember that some of us believe this is the time of year that God reviews and judges our actions. Based on your last few years...make that last few decades....you better hope we are wrong.

All you people are nuts. There is always a phantom hiding under a rock with you guys. All of our politicians are also nuts, both sides. In my 60 years I have learned never to trust any of them. They all have personal motives, and if you think that anyone in the Democratic Party or the Republican Party or any other Party for that matter care about anything but their own personal ambition you are living a dream.

I posted some time ago that September 11th would be the day Gen. Petraeous would report to Congress. That was, however, a pretty safe prediction given Bush's constant harping that Iraq was linked to 9/11.

#61. RUanidiot still thinks we are there for the oil. Nice sound bite from the loony left. I suppose we should still be in Kuwait then too? I thought the first Gulf War was all about the oil………be a man and try to let that stupid comment fly on a moderate website.

Comment by Partisanship is Dead - Eric

response:
one of the political benchmarks outlined by the WH was an OIL REVENUE BILL; and the WH supports privatization of much of the oil production.

Each of the warring factions of Iraqis are fighting for their own variegated reasons - but one of those reasons is universal for all of the parties - the Oil wealth. how could they not be fighting for that wealth? that's where the vast majority of the country's revenue is generated. If you counted the gross value of all natural resources in Iraq, you'd find oil making up a majority of that wealth, with water in a distant second.

so we are there, directly or indirectly, over oil. not solely for our own oil greed, but also to keep other people from fighting over same; and, if the WH is to be believed, to equitably distribute the revenue among Iraqis and privatize its production/distribution for the sake of free trade and supplying the world markets...

and we aren't in kuwait any more b/c they are our friends and the 1st gulf war was handled much better.

i'm sure people who are left of me (i'm a moderate with liberal more than conservative leanings - was raised by catholic conservs) will point out that it's American oil corps that will be getting the oil lucrative contracts, and American corporations who are getting all sorts of other lucrative contracts for reconstruction &c.

anyway, RUanidiot is smart enough to know that money pays for wars, and oil is money. i guess that you still think we are there for WMD and to stop 9/11 terrorists. or is it that we're just there to fix what Bush broke? or temporarily keep it from getting much much worse?

it occurs to me that you probably would not be able to offer any reason for our being there that would reflect well upon our current administration; the best you can do is show that the administration sticks to a cause and pays for its mistakes; but the magnitude of the mistakes that have been made will pale any praises you can sing.

I agree with the drift of this conversation, that it will be a call for patience and continuation of the surge: that was as predictable as sunrise. They are playing for time, since there is no intention of the troops leaving Iraq any year soon.

The Democrats have really bought the Bush policy of an endless stay, with a puppet Iraqi Government, like South Korea, which will never ask us to leave and from which the U.S will "rule" the middle east. They are merely talking trash otherwise to bash republicans politically.

If the Democrats were serious about the U.S. not staying forever, they would stop spending billions on the largest embassy in the world in Baghdad (under construction now to headquarter the U.S. middle east policy). Instead, construction continues.

When it comes to world domination , the Democrats now wear Republican combat boots.

Oh, right; you're stupid. Noted how you're interested in just blacks identifying themselves at the polls, not *everybody* having to do it.

LOL Bush butt wants Betrayus to testify on anniversary date of 9/11/01 terrorist attack. Dubya is still trying to link Iraq to that event.

Comment by Jay Randal — August 20, 2007 @ 2:59 pm

and i'll bet we'll hear the usual catch-cries - "surge is working" and "we're making progress", and "the world has changed since 9/11".....what an insult that they should have even the gall to whore the events of 6 years ago to try and stir up support and paint themselves red, white and blue on behalf of the bewildered citizens of america.....mind you, could be that most of us see an announcement of one security failure on the anniversary of another

Will Patreus betray us or will he pull a MacAruthur on Bush's politics of war? Would't it be wonderful if a man in uniform shoved Bush's lying rhetoric up his AWOL, draft-dodging, cheer-leading ass?

Poster 119, BushrulesoverLevin, did a cut/paste on my quote, without comments of his/her own. Hard to say if he/she agrees with me or not... I'm flattered by the attention, and I hope that my comments will, in some small way, cause influential Americans to re-evaluate the problematic US/Israeli relationship.

What's good for the Jewish State is not always good for the USA. It's time for American voters to grasp that fundamental truth.

Schlozman is actually a great American despite the mudslinging by TMPMuckracker and the defecation that passes as knowledge on the threads of TP. Schlozman is being ruthlessly demeaned as someone who "suppressed" minority voting rights, but this accusation is only in the context of the libtards' and the progressives' slippery conception of what voting rights of minorities are. Schlozman is a great American because he sought to actively require all blacks to show IDs at polling before they vote; this makes Schlozman a great patriot and someone who cherishes the privilege and integrity of voting

<em>...but this accusation is only in the context of the libtards’ and the progressives’ slippery conception of what voting rights of minorities are.

Please set us straight. What, if any, are the voting rights of minorities?
