Agriculture Undersecretary faces contempt charges.

“A federal judge in Montana has ordered the Bush administration’s top forestry official to explain why he should not be held in contempt of court for the U.S. Forest Service’s failure to analyze the environmental impact of dropping fish-killing fire retardant on wildfires. If found in contempt, Agriculture Undersecretary Mark Rey, who oversees the U.S. Forest Service, could go to jail until the Forest Service complies with the court order to do the environmental review.” Liliana Segura at Alternet has more.

quiz: if the Agriculture Undersecretary falls in the forest will the president pick him up?

I always knew something was up with Ag. They’ve been quiet lately. Almost TOO quiet!

  3. Punchy says:

You mean, until Bush pardons him. Bank on it.

    Jesus!

Is there anyone in this administration that isn’t a crook?

  5. Marcus Aurelius says:

He doesn’t have to reply or respond or go to jail because he’s not part of the Judiciary Branch of government. It’s a separation of powers thing.

  6. Snidely Whiplash says:

Rey was busy overseeing the clear-cutting of our forests.

  7. Debaser says:

So the executive branch isnt subject to any oversight whatsoever….

Bush cannot pardon comtempt of court rulings by judges, only sentences and convictions of a crime. Separation of powers.

  9. Menehune says:

Maybe Rey is just too scared to admit that he hasn’t a clue as to how to do an environmental impact study. I don’t know what his background is, but I’m willing to bet that he’s spent more time working on Republican election campaigns than he has in forestry.

  10. Jay Randal says:

Throw his butt in jail and put Bush in the cell with him.

  11. Damian says:

Doing the review would invoke executive privilege and the national secrets act so, therefor, “Piss off, Judgie!” “hehehe” (snark off)

  12. Zooey says:

Does everyone in this admin think their shit don’t stink?

  13. Demshaveallthelawbreakers says:

All the Toilet Paper progressives here are already salivating at the unrealistically premature fantasy of one of Bush’s forestry officials being found in contempt of court and then maybe going to jail for a while. As usual, when it comes to cases of crime involving Republicans–though the progtards here are really deranged since there’s no evidence that Mark Rey is a Repub (it’s just simple-minded thinking of progtards)–progs and libs have mostly fantasy to cling to. Ironically, on the other side of the aisle, there are many solid, hard cases of real crime being committed by Demoncrats, which the cowards at Toilet Paper actually hide because they are too scared to admit it. Take the case of Demoncratic assaulter-congressman, Bob Filner, who over the weekend beat an airport employee. Or, how about soon-to-be-convict Willie Jefferson of LA? Or, still, how about WV lawmaker Allan B. Mollohan?? Of course, this site is too chicken to put up links with stories about those villains.

Bush is our Dictator and he will never allow a team member to go to jail. Look he commuted Libby’s jail time and he’ll do the same again. Jail and laws are for other people and no Judge can over rule our Supreme Leaders Bush/Cheney. Crime pays when your protected by our Supreme Dicators.

  25. VerbalKint says:

No reason for this crook to worry: Bush will spring him.

There is no end in sight. Follow the Bush appointees and find partisan politics at their worst. One more example of Bush quality at its finest. The next 18 months cannot pass quickly enough. Impeach Bush, Cheney and Gonzales and Save the Constitution!

  30. Raven says:

This guy is well below Bush’s radar, in terms of getting any help from the Tarnished House.

George has some real problems right now, and someone this far down the ladder of appointees will be left in the woods to fend for himself.

    So to speak.

We don’t cover them here because we don’t need to. No doubt folk like Limbaugh, Drudge, Hannity, & Savage are ALL OVER those cases.

GOP Judge Reverses Jail Sentence For Sweeney’s Son

BALLSTON SPA—No jail time for the son of Republican Congressman John Sweeney despite him pleading guilty to felony second degree assault as the result of a fight which seriously injured the victim.

Thank God Bush didn’t have to issue a pardon. That GOP judge took care of it!!!

  34. WaltinTexas says:

A timber industry lobbyist in charge of the U.S. Forest Service. This guy has been raping taxpayers and our public lands since day 1 of the BushCo administration. About as good of a Bush appointee as his Mining Safety administration appointee. What’s good for the majority of Americans is of no concern for this administration, they’ve been proving that over and over since January of 2001.

  35. j swift says:

The head forestry dude is in trouble? Let me guess, his previous experience was being in charge of hanging the red white and blue decorations at Republican Party fund raisers.

The Chinese have ways to correct problems.

  37. RUCerious says:

No chance he goes to jail, as the AG would have to prosecute, and the chances of that are,
wait, let me come back in a couple of hours of CRAY computation cycles..

  38. Doc Rock says:

“Retardant” isn’t that redundant in re this administration?
