15 months with how much out of theater time? I’m glad to see it’s not any longer but 15 months is already too long.

Our military is at the breaking point with it’s personnel and it’s equipment. The Guard and Reserves have had their equipment diminished by the tours they have spent in Iraq and their isn’t any coherent plan to replenish the equipment.

Not to worry, I’m sure Mr. P or mackeral and his little friend (butt buddy) CT are holding hands on the way to the recruiting office as we speak. And they’re both so tough they can handle the insurgents by themselves. And when I say “handle” I mean “handle”.

If you really want to help your country, why not enlist right now? Whats the problem? You are very good at spewing crap for all of us to read, but are you patriotic enough to do the ‘dirty work’? I didn’t think so. So what is your excuse: cheney had his excuses, W had his excuses, addington had his excuses, abu gonzales had his excuses, etc…All you nutjobs want death – as long as it is not you in the crosshairs. yeah, that sounds like bravery to me /snarkoff.

Dumb fu*k, the problem we have is that the democrats keep allowing Bush to do what ever he wants with the military. It is George W Bush who can’t figure out how to lead our military towards victory.

Hint #1: Don’t try and occupy a sovereign country.

Hint #2: Send enough troops to do the job if you decide to ignore Hint #1.

Hint #3: Send your more than 145k troops into battle with the proper equipment.

Hint #4: THE HUMVEE I A PIECE OF SH!T AND HAS BEEN SINCE DESERT STORM.

Hint #5: Rally real brave Americans behind you, not a bunch of chicken sh!t pussy trolls who are scared to serve in the Army or Marines.

Hint #6: Don’t allow an AWOL piece of sh!t to pretend he is a war president.

  42. Samsara says:

The fact that Army Secretary Pete Geren even had to make such a statement tells me that he is getting pressure to continue the surge past April.

The NIE says that if we pull back, for whatever reason, the limited and uneven gains will evaporate because there is no political framework to preserve them.

So the limited and uneven gains of the surge will be lost unless we continue surging.

    This leaves two options
    1. Betray our troops and extend their tours once again.
    2. Sacrifice the limited and uneven gains of the surge because there are no more troops to send.

It seems Army Secretary Pete Geren has made his choice.

  43. Makarios says:

The fact that Army Secretary Pete Geren even had to make such a statement tells me that he is getting pressure to continue the surge past April.

Or he could have seen some of the recent reports on the matter.

The NIE says that if we pull back, for whatever reason, the limited and uneven gains will evaporate because there is no political framework to preserve them.

So the limited and uneven gains of the surge will be lost unless we continue surging.

There is a difference between “not extending tours” and “pulling back.” You don’t make the distinction. So all of this:

    This leaves two options
    1. Betray our troops and extend their tours once again.
    2. Sacrifice the limited and uneven gains of the surge because there are no more troops to send.

It seems Army Secretary Pete Geren has made his choice.

  58. Dora says:

While you’re formulating your response to me Makarios, I have a few more questions.

Are 2 million deaths enough for you? Or maybe we could just kill 800,000 like in Rwanda. Although, it’s estimated that number of civilians or possibly up to 1 million already have died with at least 1.5 million refugees. So how many would satisfy your blood lust in an effort to “do what needs to be done”?

And what about those refugees? What should we do about them? Did you ever see the Godfather? Even the mafia knows you don’t leave family behind because they grow up and come after you so I’d think we’d have to “do what needs to be done” to all those refugees too, don’t you?

But what I just can’t come to grips with is how this can be considered liberating Iraq and bringing them democracy like we’re supposed to be doing. Perhaps you can explain that contradiction to me Makarios.

This would mean teaching and instilling Iraqis (of all ages) some of the basic values required for a civilization to thrive (such as NO KILLING IN THE NAME OF ALLAH, etc., etc.).

Oh you want reeducation camps, the kind Bush is crying about in Viet Nam. It’s okay as long as you reeducate people to christianity, right.

  95. alp3 says:

    That’s quaint, mr. p. You’re a quaint little fellow.

No. I didn’t say anything about Christianity. YOU ADDED THAT YOURSELF, liberal.

Not to mention the irony of Mr Pee proposing a massive education project involving millions of people when our government apparently hasn’t been able to teach Mr Pee to formulate a coherent thought. Assuming, of course, that Mr Pee’s stories about attending community college are not just more lies and that his mom isn’t entirely responsible for his “education.”

  98. Makarios says:

    See, Dora.

This is the problem, these “liberals” aren’t open to new ideas so a conversation is impossible.

  99. Dora says:

well, I responded but it doesn’t seem to be posting.

  101. alp3 says:

    say, mak.

do we need to re-post all of your insanity? it will take some work, but
    for you, it’s worth it.

mr. p, you’re wrong, you’ve never been right…. and you’re not even old enough to fight your own battles.

So, why should we listen to you, p?

  104. Richard Cowen says:

I want to get everyones attention attention for this one! Its quite fun!
There is an organization, freedom.org, which has a toll free number, 877-222-8001, who’s purpose is to connect constituents with their members of congress to urge them to “stay the course” in Iraq (probably not many “real” calls).
My friends and I had a great time with the call in line at happy hour today!
When you call there is a whole diatribe about how if the US leaves Iraq the terrorists will “follow us home”! When the operator gets on the line he/she asks do you agree that if the US “cuts and runs” from Iraq that the terrorists will follow us home.
I said sure, I believe that is the case.
I was then transfered to my representative, Jim Wash (r) NY. When the staffer answered the phone I explained that I was transferred by freedom.org and that they were concerned that the terrorists would follow us home if we “cut and run” from Iraq. I told him that I absolutely thought it true because I had a “terrorist” under my bed at the very moment and asked what I should do to get rid of him!
I urge everyone to have a bit of fun with this one, jamming the switchboard, and making them see the ridiculousness of their assumption!
Some of my friends asked how they could get the terrorist out of his trunk, out of the dishwasher etc…
Have fun! Jam the switch boards!

    You’re not too bright.

    Not too bright Makarios???
Not sure what you mean. Will the gestapo come to take me away?

  107. barfly says:

“No. But freedom.org may be keeping a tally of how many calls they get, so they can use those stats in the future.”

    Comment by Makarios

Big deal. They’re nothing but astroturfers, so any “stats” they produce will be instantly suspect.

  108. alp3 says:

    hey, mak.

if i was to call away, how does that affect you? personally?

The point is that nearly everyone in the country sees this for what it is.. a ridiculous ploy to keep us involved in a war that no one wants. Even the majority of the folks who believed the original lies no longer support the war built on lies.

I’ve heard that the budget for this particular campaign of connecting citizens with their members of congress is $25M. I say lets spend it all in pointing out how absurd they all are!

Fear mongering only works for so long. Smart people at some point wake up to smell the coffee. We have now reached “morning in America”! Everyone smells the coffee and we’re now about to start the work of the day to correct the errors that occurred durring our slumber!

  110. Probus says:

Our troops are paying too high a price in Iraq. The policy in Iraq has not been worthy of their immense sacrifice. Bush must change course and set a date for troop withdrawal.

hahahah! Mr. P, Mr. P..just when I thought you couldnt say anything more stupid…

What country would these teachers come from? Who would transport them around and keep them safe from insurgents? How much would they get paid for this exceedingly high risk work? Do you really expect that people who have to risk thier lives just to go get food or gasoline are going to endanger themselves further just to go sit in on a glass intited “allah sez bombs arent cool” and “how to love your occupation 101″.

WHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!! Wow….I don’t think I’ve heard a more ridiculous proposal my entire life..

  112. missmolly says:

At the risk of putting this thread back on topic, I am pleased to see that Geren is exhibiting common sense as far as the troops are concerned. My worry is that he will eventually be overruled by Bush and Cheney (who fancy themselves military experts), and deployments will be extended anyway.

The only other way to continue the supply of troops needed to sustain the surge (not to mention the invasion of Iran that Cheney and the other neocons want) is to reinstate the draft. This, of course, would be political suicide, so it will be avoided at all costs. The biggest cost, of course, being the erosion of our existing military.

  113. Makarios says:

What country would these teachers come from? – lefty

    Umm… Iraq.
