In an interview with the Fort Collins Coloradoan’s editorial board yesterday, Rep. Marilyn Musgrave (R-CO), an ardent supporter of Bush’s Iraq policy, said she was “discouraged” by developments in Iraq. “I do hope we will hear good things from Gen. (David) Petraeus about the troop surge and what it has done,” said Musgrave. “But I am discouraged.” The Coloradoan described Musgrave’s remarks as “her most pessimistic comments about Iraq to date.”
“I do hope we will hear good things from Gen. (David) Petraeus about the troop surge and what it has done,†said Musgrave. “But I am discouraged.â€
How will anything Petraeus says mean ANYTHING if he is just reading a report that the White House has written? Where is the credibility in that?
August 23rd, 2007 at 2:45 pmHow are the American people supposed to start trusting ANYTHING this Administration does or says when they keep demonstrating how manipulative they are?
so are the rest of us. maybe discouraged is too light of a word though?? how about pissed and disgusted??

August 23rd, 2007 at 2:47 pmThis is the rabidly desperate christianist who so vehemently opposes gay unions and abortion rights.
August 23rd, 2007 at 2:48 pmShe must be feeling some pre-2008 election tremblors…
when sycophants like Musgrave start reducing their sycophantery, you know something’s wrong. well, they might have started to realize something’s wrong, like the other 70% of the country.
August 23rd, 2007 at 2:51 pm“I do hope we will hear good things from Gen. (David) Petraeus about the troop surge and what it has done,†said Musgrave. “But I am discouraged.â€
Bless your heart. Don’t worry. I have it on good authority the the General will provide the “good things” you want to hear.
August 23rd, 2007 at 2:51 pmI wonder if she is “discouraged” by GOP prospects in the next election.
August 23rd, 2007 at 2:54 pmHey Musgrave, are you hearing the footsteps of an impending election. Too little, to late, I hope.
August 23rd, 2007 at 2:55 pmHow about demoralized, devastated and heartsick? “Discouraged” was how I felt when Bush seemed to be ignoring the weapons inspectors’ reports that weren’t seeing evidence of any WMDs. That was a LONG time ago.
August 23rd, 2007 at 2:57 pmThe new NIE has pretty much stuffed the phony “Petraeus” Report happy-talk.
Oops. I wonder who set them up?
August 23rd, 2007 at 2:57 pm.
Count on more Repigs to start speaking like this. Rove is gone, so the threats of character assassination from THEIR OWN PARTY will diminish, and the reality of losing dozens of seats in Congress and the White House sets in. Too little too late, but that was always the case.
August 23rd, 2007 at 3:01 pmI do hope we will hear good things from Gen. (David) Petraeus about the troop surge and what it has done,†said Musgrave.
OF COURSE you’re going to hear good things! Remember who’s actually authoring this load of crap.
August 23rd, 2007 at 3:02 pmTake a real good smell, honey, stick your nose right down in it!
Can ya smell what the chymp’s cookin??
#10… the NIE is serving exactly the role it’s supposed to. Petraeus will tell us that military objectives are being met but–as the NIE reports– the successes are tempered by political failure on Maliki’s part. The surge will go on and Maliki will go under the bus.
August 23rd, 2007 at 3:02 pmalmost 1 year ago the IRAQ STUDY GROUP said to redeploy the troops
why not just do it instead of this needless killing mr Bush
August 23rd, 2007 at 3:03 pmI must now translate this article that the tactical liars at this Toilet Paper hate-site have disseminated. Musgrove loyally continues her support of Bush’s surge, asserting that it has “helped with the security situation in Iraq.” This quote of hers is available by clicking the link–but you illiterate libs/progs are too intellectually lazy to bother with facts. You’d all rather be force-fed BS from the radicalized liars who run this hate-site. Musgrove actually dovetailed with the conventional wisdom that the US has done everything it can to ensure security for Iraq–it’s now up to the infighting Iraqi politicians. They’re the obstructionists who are holding up progress. If anything, Musgrove is actually saying she’s “discouraged” only with Iraq’s leader, not Bush’s strategy. Since the surge was meant to create conditions for political reconciliation, her comments should be read to mean that the troop levels ought to be maintained to further ensure Iraqi reconciliation.
August 23rd, 2007 at 3:03 pm#12 I smell something– but I rather suspect it’s what the Chimp ate two days ago…
August 23rd, 2007 at 3:04 pm15 has the latest RNC talking points…study his comment. This is what will be coming with the Petraeus report.
August 23rd, 2007 at 3:07 pmRemember Whitehouse mobsters another 6 months means another 600 US troops casualties
WOW I mean what bit dont they understand
August 23rd, 2007 at 3:07 pmwhen exactly does Bushes money for Iraq run out from Congress ?????
they got 3 months money about 2.5 months ago – yes ???
whats best giving dildo bush another 100 million and another 600 US deaths
or saying enough is enough
August 23rd, 2007 at 3:12 pmThis quote of hers is available by clicking the link–but you illiterate libs/progs are too intellectually lazy to bother with facts.
We interrupt some idiot who thinks it’s OK for Bush to kill soldiers just to protect his ego to bring you the facts.
We now return you to some idiot who doesn’t care about the troops.
August 23rd, 2007 at 3:12 pm.
Poor progs are fill in the blank at #15.
She’s clearly distancing herself from supporting the war, admitting that she is disappointed with how this clusterfack is turning out.
August 23rd, 2007 at 3:12 pmThat’s an accurate depiction in the TP header, so go blow it out your ass.
I think poster #15 set the timer wrong on his microwave at lunch…
August 23rd, 2007 at 3:16 pm15 seconds versus 15 minutes
makes the difference between “warmed” and “scrambled”
This woman really makes me barf.
August 23rd, 2007 at 3:18 pm“Progsarehardcoreliarsofscum”
Ignore this moron. it changes it’s screen name every post, but underneath it’s the same old same old.
August 23rd, 2007 at 3:19 pmI’m sure she’ll come up with some reason to keep fluffing that Chimp for at least another 6 months, to be followed by yet another 6 months. True Chimp Fluffers like Musgrave are incapable of kicking their habit: “give me Chimp Fluffing or give me death’.
August 23rd, 2007 at 3:25 pmBTW, is her species related at all to Muskrat?
August 23rd, 2007 at 3:30 pmLOL she hopes to hear some convincing lies from Betrayus. Members of Congress are the most gullible people in the entire United States.
August 23rd, 2007 at 3:42 pmwhen sycophants like Musgrave start reducing their sycophantery, you know something’s wrong. well, they might have started to realize something’s wrong, like the other 70% of the country.

As a fellow COloradoan, I am sure you are aware that she is in a MAJOR battle for her seat in 08. She barely won it in 06 in a Reoug district.
Will be fun to see how much more she morphs over the next year.
Will be great to see her G O N E from Congress, along with her heroe, the Commander Guy.
August 23rd, 2007 at 3:45 pmJay, wouldn’t you just love to be the lobbyist with the DC fertilizer concession?
August 23rd, 2007 at 3:46 pm#15 is in a rant today, for sure. But if he really knew Marilyn “Manson” Musgrave, like us Coloradoans do, he wouldn’t be so supportive of her. ——— Oh wait, he is a Bushie, so of course he would, my Bad!
August 23rd, 2007 at 3:50 pmOne Friedman is equivalent to $50 billion. The Friedman is a unit of time equal to 6 months which self-destructs after that period and reproduces instantly (See eternity).

August 23rd, 2007 at 3:59 pmWords are coming from Patraeus, they’re being written in the White House. Patraeus is just a talking script reader in a military uniform.
August 23rd, 2007 at 4:07 pmMarilyn Musgrave is hardly someone who strikes me as someone who deserves much mention. Just a few years ago, she was the lead sponsor of the proposed constitutional amendment to ban same sex marriage. This is someone whom Think Progress thinks is important?
August 23rd, 2007 at 5:04 pmPetraeus’ eyes are on the stars–the ones on his shoulders, that is. Does he have the intestinal fortitude of Geneal Shalikashvili? That is the question.
August 23rd, 2007 at 5:18 pmI am so discouraged by the Democrats who promised an end to this – WHY ISN’T SOMEONE DOING SOMETHING TO STOP THE MADNESS??????
August 23rd, 2007 at 5:18 pmWHY ISN’T SOMEONE DOING SOMETHING TO STOP THE MADNESS??????
August 23rd, 2007 at 5:19 pmSharon,

I doubt TP considers Marilyn Musgrave herself to be all that significant. It looks like the point they are trying to make is that some of the more hard-core conservatives are trying to soften their edges and hedge their stances a little bit — now that there are re-elections to worry about and it’s pretty obvious where the American public stands. If Marilyn Musgrave is softening her rah rah Iraq stance, what else will come unraveled?
August 23rd, 2007 at 5:22 pmThe son of a dear family friend was wounded in Iraq last Christmas while on his 3rd deployment. An intelligent, athletic young man with aspirations of becoming a vetinarian specializing in farm animals no longer walks, no longer talks and has significant brain injury. He enlisted because he was led to believe that he’d be in Afganistan looking for the Bin Laden – the recruiters lied to him, the government lied to him, and all Bush/Cheney talk of is ’staying the course.” Maybe Makarios would like to tell Brian’s family that this isn’t madness. P.S. I wish you better mental health when your neighbor or co-worker comes back virtually a vegetable. because no one in Washington has the balls to stop this
August 23rd, 2007 at 5:53 pmDon’t make your friend’s son’s injuries be for nothing, sharon.
Support the Troops!
Iraq is almost over, for the most part.
August 23rd, 2007 at 6:05 pmMarkarios – I wish with all my heart I had enough faith to believe that.
August 23rd, 2007 at 6:09 pmWell, sharon, if you have lost all faith you should seek help from Jesus.
August 23rd, 2007 at 6:44 pm>Well, sharon, if you have lost all

Right, the divine spooge of god will save you, with his infinity + 23 chromosomes…thanks
