Musgrave is ‘discouraged’ by the situation in Iraq.

In an interview with the Fort Collins Coloradoan’s editorial board yesterday, Rep. Marilyn Musgrave (R-CO), an ardent supporter of Bush’s Iraq policy, said she was “discouraged” by developments in Iraq. “I do hope we will hear good things from Gen. (David) Petraeus about the troop surge and what it has done,” said Musgrave. “But I am discouraged.” The Coloradoan described Musgrave’s remarks as “her most pessimistic comments about Iraq to date.”

How will anything Petraeus says mean ANYTHING if he is just reading a report that the White House has written? Where is the credibility in that?
How are the American people supposed to start trusting ANYTHING this Administration does or says when they keep demonstrating how manipulative they are?

  2. stopthecons says:

so are the rest of us. maybe discouraged is too light of a word though?? how about pissed and disgusted??

This is the rabidly desperate christianist who so vehemently opposes gay unions and abortion rights.
She must be feeling some pre-2008 election tremblors…

  5. DenverOasis says:

when sycophants like Musgrave start reducing their sycophantery, you know something’s wrong. well, they might have started to realize something’s wrong, like the other 70% of the country.

Bless your heart. Don’t worry. I have it on good authority the the General will provide the “good things” you want to hear.

  7. VerbalKint says:

I wonder if she is “discouraged” by GOP prospects in the next election.

  8. shane says:

Hey Musgrave, are you hearing the footsteps of an impending election. Too little, to late, I hope.

  9. margaret says:

How about demoralized, devastated and heartsick? “Discouraged” was how I felt when Bush seemed to be ignoring the weapons inspectors’ reports that weren’t seeing evidence of any WMDs. That was a LONG time ago.

  10. Grand Moff Texan says:

The new NIE has pretty much stuffed the phony “Petraeus” Report happy-talk.

Oops. I wonder who set them up?

  11. ronjazz says:

Count on more Repigs to start speaking like this. Rove is gone, so the threats of character assassination from THEIR OWN PARTY will diminish, and the reality of losing dozens of seats in Congress and the White House sets in. Too little too late, but that was always the case.

OF COURSE you’re going to hear good things! Remember who’s actually authoring this load of crap.
Take a real good smell, honey, stick your nose right down in it!
Can ya smell what the chymp’s cookin??

  13. Menehune says:

#10… the NIE is serving exactly the role it’s supposed to. Petraeus will tell us that military objectives are being met but–as the NIE reports– the successes are tempered by political failure on Maliki’s part. The surge will go on and Maliki will go under the bus.

almost 1 year ago the IRAQ STUDY GROUP said to redeploy the troops

why not just do it instead of this needless killing mr Bush

  15. Progsarehardcoreliarsofscum says:

I must now translate this article that the tactical liars at this Toilet Paper hate-site have disseminated. Musgrove loyally continues her support of Bush’s surge, asserting that it has “helped with the security situation in Iraq.” This quote of hers is available by clicking the link–but you illiterate libs/progs are too intellectually lazy to bother with facts. You’d all rather be force-fed BS from the radicalized liars who run this hate-site. Musgrove actually dovetailed with the conventional wisdom that the US has done everything it can to ensure security for Iraq–it’s now up to the infighting Iraqi politicians. They’re the obstructionists who are holding up progress. If anything, Musgrove is actually saying she’s “discouraged” only with Iraq’s leader, not Bush’s strategy. Since the surge was meant to create conditions for political reconciliation, her comments should be read to mean that the troop levels ought to be maintained to further ensure Iraqi reconciliation.

  19. Tobey Tall says:

when exactly does Bushes money for Iraq run out from Congress ?????

they got 3 months money about 2.5 months ago – yes ???

whats best giving dildo bush another 100 million and another 600 US deaths

    or saying enough is enough

We interrupt some idiot who thinks it’s OK for Bush to kill soldiers just to protect his ego to bring you the facts.

We now return you to some idiot who doesn’t care about the troops.

  21. RUCerious says:

Poor progs are fill in the blank at #15.

She’s clearly distancing herself from supporting the war, admitting that she is disappointed with how this clusterfack is turning out.
That’s an accurate depiction in the TP header, so go blow it out your ass.

I’m sure she’ll come up with some reason to keep fluffing that Chimp for at least another 6 months, to be followed by yet another 6 months. True Chimp Fluffers like Musgrave are incapable of kicking their habit: “give me Chimp Fluffing or give me death’.

  26. RUCerious says:

As a fellow COloradoan, I am sure you are aware that she is in a MAJOR battle for her seat in 08. She barely won it in 06 in a Reoug district.

Will be fun to see how much more she morphs over the next year.

Will be great to see her G O N E from Congress, along with her heroe, the Commander Guy.

  29. RUCerious says:

Jay, wouldn’t you just love to be the lobbyist with the DC fertilizer concession?

  30. upside00 says:

#15 is in a rant today, for sure. But if he really knew Marilyn “Manson” Musgrave, like us Coloradoans do, he wouldn’t be so supportive of her. ——— Oh wait, he is a Bushie, so of course he would, my Bad!

  34. Jon says:

Marilyn Musgrave is hardly someone who strikes me as someone who deserves much mention. Just a few years ago, she was the lead sponsor of the proposed constitutional amendment to ban same sex marriage. This is someone whom Think Progress thinks is important?

Petraeus’ eyes are on the stars–the ones on his shoulders, that is. Does he have the intestinal fortitude of Geneal Shalikashvili? That is the question.

I doubt TP considers Marilyn Musgrave herself to be all that significant. It looks like the point they are trying to make is that some of the more hard-core conservatives are trying to soften their edges and hedge their stances a little bit — now that there are re-elections to worry about and it’s pretty obvious where the American public stands. If Marilyn Musgrave is softening her rah rah Iraq stance, what else will come unraveled?

  40. sharon says:

The son of a dear family friend was wounded in Iraq last Christmas while on his 3rd deployment. An intelligent, athletic young man with aspirations of becoming a vetinarian specializing in farm animals no longer walks, no longer talks and has significant brain injury. He enlisted because he was led to believe that he’d be in Afganistan looking for the Bin Laden – the recruiters lied to him, the government lied to him, and all Bush/Cheney talk of is ’staying the course.” Maybe Makarios would like to tell Brian’s family that this isn’t madness. P.S. I wish you better mental health when your neighbor or co-worker comes back virtually a vegetable. because no one in Washington has the balls to stop this

  41. Makarios says:

Don’t make your friend’s son’s injuries be for nothing, sharon.

    Support the Troops!

Iraq is almost over, for the most part.

  42. sharon says:

Markarios – I wish with all my heart I had enough faith to believe that.

  43. Makarios says:

Well, sharon, if you have lost all faith you should seek help from Jesus.

  44. The High Road into the Null Anus of God says:

    >Well, sharon, if you have lost all
    > faith you should seek help from Jesus.

Right, the divine spooge of god will save you, with his infinity + 23 chromosomes…thanks
