‘Hearts and minds’ campaign insults Afghans.

On Friday, the U.S.-led coalition in Afghanistan distributed footballs as part of its “hearts and minds” campaign to win over “support from the local population.” But the footballs instead “kicked off a storm of protest” because they were illustrated with the flags of several nations, including bearing “Koranic verses as part of the flag of Saudi Arabia.” Protestors said it was “insulting for texts from the Koran to be put on the ground and kicked.”

Digg It!

The US really, REALLY needs to begin studying these countries before they take any more action. Everything we try seems to be done without any knowledge.

And the Afghans need to lighten the f*ck up. The US was just trying to help, chill out! So the US made (yet another) mistake. Let us apologize, and don’t freak out. The US meant well.

Obama talks to Jebsus too just like GW….

(CNN) — Speaking to Sunday church congregants in New Orleans, Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama invoked Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount days before the second anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.

“Getting ready to talk to you today, I recall what Jesus said at the end of the Sermon on the Mount,” Obama said at New Orleans’ First Emmanuel Baptist Church. “He said, whoever hears these sayings of mine and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on a rock.”

“The rains descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house. But it did not fall, because it was founded on the rock,” he continued.

  25. missmolly says:

I think the ignorance stems from a couple of things. The problem was the Saudi Arabian flag, which contains the Islamic declaration of faith — “there is no god but God, and Muhammed is His messenger”. An average American who doesn’t know the Arabic alphabet or language might not even recognize that those squiggles in the middle of the flag actually mean something.

Two — we might plaster words from our scripture all over the place (the ten commandments, the Lord’s Prayer, the 23rd Psalm, John 3:16, etc.) and don’t think twice about how the object it’s printed on is treated.

The average American also tends to assume that what doesn’t offend us wouldn’t offend anyone else. Yet we DO have standards for our flag. We object to it being burned in protest, to being dragged on the ground, to being sat on, stepped on, etc. (yet, oddly, we have no problem with it being put on a football and kicked). So if we have rules of how to treat our flag with respect, why is it such a stretch to believe that other countries have standards as well?

    Comment by Obama Girl — August 27, 2007 @ 1:30 pm

There are no houses in New Orleans 16′ below sea level.

The astonishment came not with the flooding by the hurricane. The astonishment has at least these two parts: 1. that the levees built by the United States Army Corps of Engineers were so shoddy that they failed under far lower stress than the design called for, and 2. that the United States of America has made so little effort to help Americans get their lives back together.

Perhaps you seek to prove your last point by your own example.

This is a BS story. No doubt, I’m sure it happened, but it was probably instigated from within not-so-friendly elements in Khost. Case in point is that Khost is a big place and 100 people turning out for a piss-off-rally isn’t a big deal. Second, I know exactly how these programs work and what it involved was someone going through a supplier in the region (ie probably in Pakistan or Kuwait) to acquire them. It wasn’t USACAPOC at Ft.Bragg designing special soccer balls and someone missing the cultural outrage equation. These soccer balls have probably been used throughout the region and not pissed people off until now. It’s probably a manufactured outrage, in my opinion.

No…It is the system itself. Most Communists/ Marxists / Socialists are idealists but the system is flawed at it’s core and so everytime it is inflicted on a society you get the same resault; gulags, re-education camps, oppression, the crushing of dissent and mass-murder.

Marxism can only be forced onto a people where as capitalism is what people do when allowed to be free under a constitutional framework.

No person with a mind and a heart would justify the abuse of a population with a defense of “Sovereignity” any more than we would overlook the child being forced into prostitution because the family is sovereign. That child should be helped and anyone with a ounce of humanity would do what they could to prevent the abuse. So too we reach out to the oppressed on a national level and do what we can. Sometimes unfortunately that is not enough.

At times our political leaders have manipulated the citizens of the US to act in ways which would benifit corporate America but most often the minds and hearts of the people of the US are in solidarity with their brethren whom they seek to aid.

Well I linked a story of some people killing othere execution style in the US along with the use of capital punishment. So my argument wasn’t just based on that. The point I am making is that killing by thugs who think they have the power to do so is not limited to those in Afghanistan. Ringo just can’t see that it is in every society including our own but he uses a story such as that to find hatred for a religion as a whole. The Taliban are cruel and thugs. Agreed.

    Middle East Sports are Complicated
    .
I’ve been trying to imagine the Iraq situation as a football game.
Start with Shia on one side of the ball and Sunnis on the other. The Yanks are the Officials.
Embedded in both side are criminal elements who from time to time shoot somebody in the huddle or kidnap a prominent son or daughter, demanding a first down as payment.
Also playing are a number of foreign Jihadists who plant explosives in the football just when one side appears poised to score. They, to date, have been so efficient that the goal line areas have all but disappeared.
The field is surrounded by US tanks because the stands empty in violent protest after close calls bring cries of favoritism. For cheers, “Satan’s Lackeys” and “Give us back our Oil” seem to be crowd favorites.
The Mullahs, of course, declared a fatwa regarding the use of pigskin which was particularly dicey but had the cheering side effect of seeing all participants line up on the same side for a mercurial moment.
The Mullahs also pointed out that the “Hail Mary” pass was forbidden eleven centuries prior to the invention of the game of football which speaks volumes about the locals’ concept of time.
The part of the game that is most dispiriting however are the cheerleaders. First of all there are one hundred and six different cheerleader contingents representing each of the religious, familial and tribal loyalties with feuding interests. Then there’s the fact that they’re covered from head to toe which gives one the sense of how oxy-islamic the whole concept of organized competition here truly is.
The fact that the stands keep disintegrating, which requires additional kickbacks to Halliburton and KBR, who somehow have all the concessions, doesn’t help in the slightest.
Well, to quote Rummy, “it’s complicated.”
To quote John Madden, “Geez, these guys play for keeps.”

I can say the same thing about Christians.

  153. Spudge_Boy says:

Islam teaches violence and Christianity teaches peace and love.

Sorry, I was raised Christian and that is just a bold faced lie.

You contridicted yourself. You said that because I don’t like chicken I was anti-American. It follows that you then think all vgans are anti-American.

    Comment by Troll — August 27, 2007 @ 4:49 pm

I did n’t say you were anti-American because you don’t like chicken. Only a stupid fu*king troll like you would say something so dumb. I said you didn’t like chicken AND you are anti-American.

  154. Bob says:

What paradise utopian country you live in Juanny?

  155. Ringo says:

    Jaun C,

Are you one of those stinky old Spartacus League geezers who still show up at anti-war rallies with hammer and sickle banners and big frowns on their faces?

  156. Bob says:

Juan C is talking about Christian suicide bombers kinda like the Palestinian kiddies.

  157. Spudge_Boy says:

    Spudge_Boy,

Do you live in a 24/7 state of rage?

Just wondering, because everytime I stop in at this site – day or night – there you are with all your anger, profanity and incoherance, blathering at every decent person who posts anything that might be seen as even remotely pro-American.

Are you aware that harboring such intense hatred can dangerous to your health?

    Comment by Ringo — August 27, 2007 @ 4:54 pm

Only with dealing with the traitors that walk amongst us and yes, I mean you.

And stress only affects those that hold it in and lets it eat at them. I don’t have that problem and I am in perfect health. Except for that one toenail I have. But, thanks for caring about my health.

  158. Bob says:

Juan you really need to read some newer stuff.
I know I was once where you are.
    Renew that library card.

  159. Spudge_Boy says:

I also notice that Ringo doesn’t say a fu*king thing about the hatred that Bob is spewing. He is all for that, but when I say something he gets all offended. Hypocrite much Ringo?

  160. Bob says:

I would love to see a picture of this Juanny Marxist living in his own little utopian Marxist Country. Peace Love and Tranquility all around him.

    Not!

  161. Spudge_Boy says:

    Comment by Bob — August 27, 2007 @ 5:39 pm

Not kinda, exactly like them. Exactly like the Saudis that flew planes into the WTC. Exactly like the al Qaida terrorists who are being harbored by the Pakistanis. Exactly. A terrorist is a terrorist, no matter what color there skin is or what glowy man i n the sky they worship.

  162. Juan C says:

    mmmm…no debate yet.

Im gonna laugh at the lewd conduct thread, then.

  163. Ringo says:

    Spudge,

I’m not offended; just having a laugh.

  164. Bob says:

Spuddie, chill out man before you blow a gasket.

Take care of your family. Stop beating yourself and your wifey.

  166. Bob says:

Spuddie you sound like a terrorist yourself. Were you in the service? Rifles, bombs, tanks, planes all sound like WMDs to me?
Trained to kill and terrorize by BushCO maybe?

  167. Bob says:

    Ringo, nice visual there:)

  168. Spudge_Boy says:

    Comment by Ringo — August 27, 2007 @ 5:45 pm

Then I will just ignore your concern troll tactics then.

    Were you in the service?

You already know the answer to that Bob. And again, you don’t need to worry about my health, unless you know a way to fix that one bad toenail I got. Not sure what you can do, it comes from it getting smashed, when I was in the military.

  169. Spudge_Boy says:

    Here’s picture I found of Ringo’s mom.

What are they going to say? That Muslims should kick around the name of god and his prophet?
