Townsend turned down DHS Secretary position.

The Swamp reports that Frances Fragos Townsend, White House homeland security advisor, “declined the offer to consider job of Homeland Security Secretary currently held by Chertoff in a recent conversation with the White House.” As ThinkProgress noted earlier today, Bush crony Clay Johnson is now reportedly the frontrunner for the job.

While Townsend arguably has more experience than Clay Johnson in the area of homeland security, Johnson being named as the replacement is still better than ANY Demoncrat being named to replace Chertoff. Libtards on this site get totally excitable whenever they throw around buzz phrases like “Bush loyalist” or “cronyism” because those words have become a rallying point for them to simple-mindedly symbolize most of what’s wrong with their boogeyman, Bush. Despite Johnson’s lack of experience, imagine what a Demoncrat would do if he were appointed as a Homeland Security Secretary. Imagine if Al Gore were Homeland Secretary; he’d focus the fight against the imaginary enemy of global warming while allowing open borders for terrorists to wander in. Imagine if Barak Obama were Homeland Secretary; he’d unilaterally invade US states and bomb them (like he would Pakistan) while trying to sit down and dialogue with terrorists invading US borders.

  20. Menehune says:

Notice how this troll wasn’t there for the Clay Johnson thread earlier. In fact NONE were. Why? Because the talking points from the RNC hadn’t been faxed yet and the morning shift at the troll-center hadn’t finished their Krispy Kremes and coffee yet.

Yeah, with a Dem in charge we’d have to deal with things like containers being inspected and the security alert NOT being raised every time the Administration feels like scaring Americans away from an embarrasing news story or two. Keep drinking that kool-aid you Returded flting monkey. I guess loyalism is an attribute to you Rightards and cronyism is ok too.
I guess finding someone who’s actually QUALIFIED for an impportant position would just be too much work, huh?

And the trolls are trying to say Democrats are Cronys. The fact is, folks, the trolls are cronys and communicate with one another on a hourly basis for talking points. Its like a Hive mind, they dont think for themselves they just react to the queen bees latest dance.

Watch this great, 3 part, BBC report that explains the TRUE Neocon movement, and its subversion of rational thought regarding human behavior and how this led them to their wacko Negative Freedom BS, and thusly that politicians and gov employees cannot be trusted to work for the better good. The Neocons feel that everyone ALWAYS has a self-betterment underlying thought process, and therefore, no one can ever truly work towards societal good. Ipso facto, Government that provides for the populace, is just gov workers using their influence to make it more likely they will be reelected and sustain their job. Hence the ridiculous statement by Grover Norquist:
“Shrink government to the size that it fits into a bathtub and then drown it.” Why do citizens elect people to government who evidentally do not believe in government, nor wish to run it?

THE TRAP: WHAT HAPPENED TO OUR DREAM OF FREEDOM?

  25. hellinabucket says:

A Patriot Acting brings up the solid point that far too many containers are continuing to come thru our ports without inspection. 1 in 100 I believe are inspected. This is still something Bush hasn’t addressed.

I assume you are referring to comment #8

  27. ptf says:

Clay Johnson, let’s see… Well there’s the fact that his son. Collister “Coddy” Johnson was deeply involved in voter suppression efforts in the 2004 campaign. And then there’s the matter that Coddy set up meetings with convicted coin swindler Tom Noe and Ken Mehlman (and possibly Rove) in the White House.

    So, like son, like father…?

  28. James Saville Row says:

I would give a mil. to find out why Townsend would not consider accepting the offer. The job could not possibly be too different from her current assignment.

One wonders what kind of Homeland Security advice she provides if she shies away from the Secretary’s seat.

Ah, it’s all a crap shoot anyway! I wonder what’s going on in IRAQ today to make the Bushies use this extremely effective distraction.

KEEP YOUR EYES ON ALL OF THE BALLS, FOLKS! NEVER FALTER IN CLAMOURING TO BRING THE TROOPS BACK HOME TO THEIR LOVED ONES!

Sounds to me like with a new AG, and one which will be grille, sauteed, fricasseed, boiled, broiled and blanched by the Senate over their TRUE belief in RULE OF LAW, that charges will be forthcoming for MANY…including Gonzie, and Rovie, and Rummie (let’s not forget the big war criminal) and many others who are skipping around now in the perverbial saftey of dancing in Bush’s shadow, but as the saying goes. What goes around, comes around. Have good day at the bar of justice kids.
Then it is off to the Haige for those War Criminals, including Bushie, and Rummie, And Condi, And sorry you too, Colin, and Dickie will be led in by forcefield because no one wants to touch pure evil.

  33. Bodhittsatva says:

Karl’s subpoenas are still alive. Just becuase he, like you, thumb your nose at the rule of law does not make them go away.

He could return to being a White House Counsel, or maybe become Chief of Staff to a Republican Congressman.

Would any law firm in America take Gonzalez?

  43. Bodhittsatva says:

Of course, to show the money grubbers they play the game, and to “make their bones.” That is…if he has a law license, and if he is brought up on charges and those are bad enough charges, the case could be made for him to loose his law license…then it is toush shiite Alberto. “NO SOUP FOR YOU!”
