Fear-mongering Bush warns of Iranian ‘nuclear holocaust.’»

In his speech about Iraq to the American Legion today, President Bush warned that allowing Iran to pursue “technology that could lead to nuclear weapons threatens to put a region already known for instability and violence under the shadow of a nuclear holocaust.” Watch it:

Screenshot

As Steve Benen points out, Bush’s hyperbolic rhetoric about a “nuclear holocaust” in the Middle East is reminiscent of his pre-war claims that “we couldn’t wait for actual proof to justify an invasion, because the ’smoking gun could be a mushroom cloud.’”

  5. Chris L Says:

Why is Iran having nuclear weaponry any different than Pakistan, Israel, or Saudi having nuclear weaponry? For that matter, how is it different from the US having it? When was the last time Iran attacked someone? The problem is that it is a strategic weapon, not a tactical one. The first time you try to use it, all of the other countries that already have it (and we have the most) will pound you into the stone age.

Spain decided to withdraw troops from Iraq,as a result of his defeat. and they did.

Italy: Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi lost his re-election in 2006,because of the war in Iraq, after 6 years in office

England: Prime Minister Tony Blair left this year because his party wanted him out, it was because of the Iraq war, after serving over 10 years as prime minister.

Actually ex-presidents have traditionally stepped into the background and let the winner of future elections enact their policy without ex-pres carping. Carter has been the clearest and most embarrassing example of a president not following this tradition.

Let’s not criticize Bush for his possible future actions if we’re not going to criticize Carter for what he’s already done.

Ahmadinijad was installed by the Iranian people in a democratic election because he ran on an anti-corruption platform. See, those “moderates” we like to talk about belong to the business elite, and they’re big into crony capitalism. Ahmadinijad tapped into popular disgust with the insider cronyism and got elected by a plurality.

And for all his bluster, for all his dangerous statements, for all the less dangerous statements deliberately mistranslated to make them look dangerous, he means nothing. Because the President of Iran is effectively the interior minister. He has little power over the military and isn’t even commander-in-chief. That falls to the Supreme Jurisprudent. Ahmadinijad couldn’t launch a nuke at anyone were that his sincerest wish and he had whole bunkers of them. But he’s a convenient patsy for the warmongers here and in Tel Aviv, because he’s a fiery pseudo-populist with a penchant for saying inflammatory things, and saying things that can be twisted to look even worse.

You Leftists support the Iranian regime.
If they get a Nuke they will nuke Israel
Given that today’s American Left is allied with Neo-Nazis like ace I’m sure you’d enjoy seeing 8 Million Israelis insinerated.
Even if Israel hit Iran back, Iran wins!
The ideology the the Iranian regime has is called 12therism.
They belive that if they cause a massive war, the Mahdi (12th Iman) will return and created an Islamic one world government.
Al-Qaeda also has a variant of this belief.

  173. Humpty Says:

Of course now the Pro-Iran supporters will unleash on me now!
I guess Iran is the new Cuba, the Left’s idea of paradise!
