Craig: It’s the Idaho paper’s fault that I pleaded guilty.»

Repeatedly claiming “I am not gay,” Sen. Larry Craig (R-ID) blamed the media for his guilty plea of disorderly conduct. I have been “relentlessly and viciously harassed by the Idaho Statesman,” Craig complained. “The Statesman has engaged in this witchhunt. In pleading guilty, I overreacted in Minneapolis because of the stress the Idaho Statesman investigation and the rumors it has fueled all around Idaho.” Watch it:

Of course you can. But to be honest you can also believe everything a Republican says no matter how outlandish. You probably believe Saddam was responsible for 9/11 and had WMD. You probably believe that Cheney & Rove have committed no crimes & only refuse to be questioned under oath because it’s unnecessary & a partisan witch hunt. You probably also believe that you’d be nonpartisan and would hold these beliefs if the subjects were Democrat instead of Republican. You might also believe that GWB has done good things for the U.S. So your belief system is clearly not working any better then the GWB administration.

I am just a normal citizen with no legal expertise and I would never stand before a judge and plead guilty to something I did not do. Hell, even if I was guilty I wouldn’t say so, and get the best damn attorney I could afford. This man has 16 years of legislative experience. This means he has been intricately involved in the lawmaking process at a federal level for 16 years. And he expects people to believe he plead guilty to something he did not do, just because of pressure? Sure. Right.

Romney said the incident “reminds us of Mark Foley and Bill Clinton.” He said “dignity and character” is the most important thing Americans can expect from elected officials. “We’ve seen disappointment in the White House, we’ve seen it in the Senate, we’ve seen it in Congress. And frankly, it’s disgusting.”

  34. Dave Says:

  35. Amyl Nitrate Says:

  38. Clyde the Ripper Says:

If he were to plead guilty because of pressure applied by the newspaper there are only two scenarios that fit the circumstances. The first is that he is indeed guilty and by pleading same he hoped the newspaper would go away. Secondly, he was not guilty and the pressure by the newspaper was slanderous or extortion. In either case he would have owned the newspaper after a brief lawsuit. I suspect that the lawyers for the newspaper are just a tad brighter than the little girlie-boy senator and he got caught with his pants down–literally and metaphorically.

And supposedly there are photos out there about another Bush college roommate named James Bath showing Bush and Bath engaging in drunken sex acts on a roof. They were supposed to have been published before the 2000 election but the Bush goons stepped in and confiscated them from the National Enquirer.

You know the answer is know but you cant say so, why is that? Do the 29% er’s have something on you? Are you in touble and need help but can’t say because the camera outside is always on, following you, recording your every move and sound?

As Gore Vidal has pointed out… there are no ‘gay’ people, there are only ‘gay’ acts. People of both persuasions can engage in gay sex.

So in that sense, Craig is telling the truth perhaps. He is probably not gay. He is bisexual. Perhaps he likes animals too.

The issue here is - he votes against sexual and other freedoms. He lies about his proclivities. He lies, and lies, and lies and is willing to see other people suffer under the laws he supports. He has the power he thinks to engage in any kind of behavior he wants without consequences.

    He’s finally gotten his comeuppance.

It’s like Dallas Cowboy fans who say that there is a hole in the roof so God can watch his favorite football team, so when I say “Can’t God see thru the roof”, or, “what about stadiums without roofs, he’s watching them too”, I get no answer.

So explain to me why is it that all who claim to be so religious NEVER worry about God when they think they’re alone, doing nast, filthy things. Then get caught and say I asked forgiveness from God and it was given. The next person who say’s that is gonna have to prove it.

You sound like those “but the police are our friends” types who denounce any and everyone that has ever said that they were a victim by police. Now you want to wait until the trial and even imply that the officer could be lying. That is not a Republican thing to do (attacking a policeman’s character) but it sure sounds Repuppetcan-ish. Remember you are the party of law and order (unless it is you, then you want a favor), throw the bums in jail, no dissent. Why would the officer lie? And why would Mr. Craig pull out his “I’m a Senator, leave me alone” card? And why would his lawyer tell him to plead guilty?

If this man is that dumb to plead guilty when he is innocent, then he is not fit to make the type of decisions that are needed to protect this country.

    Here you go: http://www.cnn.com/ 2004/ ALLPOLITICS/ 08/ 12/ mcgreevey.nj/

With his wife standing by his side, McGreevey — a father of two — spoke in calm tones as he described his struggle with his sexuality, “a certain sense that separated me from others.” It was something that he said began as a child.

“At a point in every person’s life, one has to look deeply into the mirror of one’s soul and decide one’s unique truth in the world, not as we may want to see it or hope to see it, but as it is,” McGreevey said.

“And so, my truth is that I am a gay American,” the Democrat said.

    ……. It goes on:

One Democratic strategist close to McGreevey said his speech was “well delivered and, I think, well received. But given what’s ahead for him, it’s downhill from here.”

Even as he acknowledged his sexuality, McGreevey spoke of the “suffering and anguish” he had brought to his family and friends, saying he would “almost rather have this moment pass.”

“For this is an intensely personal decision and not one typically for the public domain,” McGreevey said of his revelation. “Yet, it cannot and should not pass.”

U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg, a Democrat, said in a written statement that “my heart goes out to Gov. McGreevey and his family.”

Democratic Chairwoman Bonnie Watson Coleman issued a written statement with a similar sentiment.

“Our hearts and prayers are with Gov. McGreevey and his family during this time,” Coleman said. “The Democratic Party of New Jersey will remain strong and united as it stands behind the ideals and values that it has always fought to protect.”

Garden State Equality, a gay rights group, called McGreevey’s coming-out speech “poignant” and said its members’ thoughts were with the governor and his family.

“We all know how difficult it is to come out as openly gay, whether to family or other loved ones,” Garden State Equality chairman Steven Goldstein said. “No one could imagine what it’s like to come out to 300 million people — this is totally unprecedented.”
