Police ordered a curfew and told “hundreds of thousands of pilgrims to leave the Iraqi city of Kerbala on Tuesday as a battle raged between Iraqi security forces and gunmen near two of Shi’ite Islam’s holiest shrines. A senior security source in Baghdad said 25 people had been killed, mostly policemen.”
Looks like the insurgents are surging outside Baghdad, in the east, west and north and south somewhat.

August 28th, 2007 at 11:14 amYep — sounds like we’re making progress…
August 28th, 2007 at 11:19 amWhy don’t they label it “Operation Wack-a-Mole”?
August 28th, 2007 at 11:25 amYep, the surge is really working.
August 28th, 2007 at 11:27 amHope some of our headline-seeking politicians visit in Kerbala while Congress is in recess.
With the last 5,000 British troops leaving Basra soon, the city is now under the control of mainly Al Sader Militia, and some other factions..and the whole south of Iraq will be run by militias, all the way north to Baghdad.
America must fill the gap..meaning clashing with all these southern Shiite militias over controlling the south, which England tried to do for the last 5 years but failed.
August 28th, 2007 at 11:29 amWill Bush send more troops to the South to replace the leaving British troops?
What happened to the Caolititon Of The Willing?!
