Actually, I do find that “not right”. I would say the same about a private “Christian” school too. I believe in separation of church and state. I find the extreme degree of hardcore Chrisitan prostelization that has been happening at the Air Force Academy in Colorado to be unaccepable too, and just as scary.

I actually think the media should have refused to cave on that one. It’s a free speech thing. Why? I went to a private Christian school through college. That’s a choice my family and I made and paid dearly for. We wanted religion in my life and I got it! Along with a lot of discipline and lessons in respect which is non existent in todays public schools. I was raised with respect for others and a disdain for government handouts. This is sadly lacking in our government schools!

You might be right about that. I’ve been out of school since the early 70’s. I went thru public school in upstate NY, and was 2nd in my class. I took 4 yrs of Latin and once got a 98 on a state-wide final (in Latin). Translated the Monroe Doctrine INTO Latin for a term paper once. Got a 95 on that.
I’ve seen the standards in education slip year after year for decades. If it weren’t for public schools, I might not have gotten an education. My father tried putting me to work when I was 5. (Child labor laws?) He whipped me w/ his belt when I couldn’t work 12 hrs a day in the summer sun, and screamed at the top of his lungs. He was a registered Republican his own life.
Some Christian schools are probably very good. Some want to teach that the Earth is only 6,000 yrs old. Wouldn’t that pretty much toss the entire body of scientific knowledge in the trash can?
Astrology, geology, biology, chemistry… do you think that makes sense?
There are pluses and minuses to everything. I think standards of all kinds have collapsed in this country over the last 30 to 40 years, and I don’t like it. The grades I got were real. I worked my ass off for them.
I’m not even sure what a “liberal” is anymore. That’s why I keep pressing posters for articulation and specificity! :-D!!!

Do I sound naive to you? My mother used to slap me for saying hello to her some days. I left home for good when I was 22. Drove to the West Coast and just took it from the streets. I didn’t have any place to stay when I got here, and was totally on my own.
I’d like to think I’ve been living in the real world a long time. I may have been naive when I was 22 but that was several decades and many, many bad expereinces ago, at the hands of both “liberals” and “conservatives”.

Calm down. I didn’t say YOU were. You said you had a Christian education above. I did not, nor do I belong to a church, yet I can come to Christian values and believe in them, no? Others do take advantage, all the time, both libs and cons, Dems and repubs. I refuse to belong to a political party anymore, but I never miss an election. You personally don’t pay for my education.
