Number of Idaho voters who want Sen. Larry Craig (R-ID) to resign, according to a new poll taken yesterday. Just 34 percent approve of the job Craig is doing as senator.
99.9 percent: Number of Americans who want Thinkprogress.org to resign from the World Wide Web. The other .01 percent, are the loony morons who post here.
Isnt it possible to approve of the job that a senator is doing, and still want him to resign?
I only ask this because, a lot of people thought President Clinton was doing a good job, but still thought he should have resigned after disgracing the office with his extramarital affair with an intern.
As long as he is punching in the views of those who put him in office, why should he resign over a private matter? It’s not like he did this on government property (e.g., the Senate, Oval Office, etc.).
He swore in court that he was guilty, in front of a judge. Now he claims he wasn’t guilty?
So he is now claiming he perjured himself in front of a judge?
Either he is guilty of the charges or he is guilty of perjury. Can’t have it both ways.
I mean, I assume he was under oath when the judge handed down the sentence. So, now he’s saying he lied under oath when he said he was guilty? That will fly.

Senator Larry Craig: “I am not Gay” ?
29th of August 2007
by Jay Randal
Senator Larry Craig’s behavior in public restrooms is perversion, NOT the antics of average normal Gay male, so while he claims to be innocent of soliciting sex in toilet stalls he infers homosexuals are degenerates?
Larry is being disingenuous about his tawdry events, in bathrooms, seeking quick sex with unknown males who share his lust and doing the nasty in public potty.
He does not seek any loving relationship with another male, nor does he seek one-night-stand in hotel rooms either, so Sen. Larry Craig is a pervert and NOT Gay.
“I am not Gay” he proclaims to the press, and he said the truth about that fact, but he is a liar for denying seeking trashy sex from other perverted guys in johns.
Americans are becoming fed-up with hypocrisy in DC, by Republicans in House and Senate, so Larry Craig must tender his resignation from the Congress ASAP and never run again for political office for rest of his life!
(Jay Randal, political activist and writer in Georgia, USA.)
If Senator Craig is so stupid as to plead guilty to a crime without legal representation and which he now claims he never committed, then he is simply too stupid to be writing bills and voting on our nation’s laws anyway.
I think it is entirely possible to approve of the job he is doing while simultaneously wanting him to resign for personal reasons.
While I approve of nothing this right winger has to offer, I personally hope he doesn’t resign. I’d like to see the media drag this out for as long as possible. Make America see the Republicans for the hypocrites they are.
They can be hypocrites in during personal time as they choose. The point is that they do their job in effectively by entering the views of the people they represent. Assume the Senator outed himself and suddenly began voting for gay rights. Would Idahoans have a legit reason to be taken aback? Perhaps, because they didn’t install their Senator to vote for gay rights.
Glad to see that there at least more than a few discerning, intelligent, perceptive folks in Idaho who aren’t buying this guy’s ridiculous protestations. Craig is OBVIOUSLY gay (AND slimey).
As for the other 45% who aren’t calling for his resignation: well, not much can be said in their defense.
The funny thing is, it’s only Republicans and the Hot Air/Pajamas Media crowd who want him to resign. It’s only Republicans in the Senate who want an investigation. Time to purge gays from the party.
Myself, I’m enjoying the story and I hope he’s around through 2008. I’m all about cheap entertainment.
That extra 6% (the majority percentage) could have been swayed by the excessive, biased media coverage. It happens.
It all depends on the crime. If some fat lady punched a capital police office while a member of congress, she should probably lose her job. If a Senator accidently stepped on some undercover police officer’s foot in a private airport, it’s absolutely excusable.
What if the Senator really is not guilty and decided to plead an atempt to quickly throw the case to the side, since he knows that Republicans receive unfair press treatment?
Re: #5 hmmm yes I believe Statistico makes up the .01 he refers to. So, if Craig was not acting lewdly, what was he doing, getting up a prayer meeting in that stall???????

I see your point, but you’re asking the wrong person here. Craig doesn’t represent me – I don’t live in Idaho and I support gay rights, so I would never have voted for him anyway.
However, I can see how his constituents would be upset that Craig’s personal actions are not consistent with his proclaimed morality.
Oh please can he not ask jebus for forgiveness and go to rehab for a few weeks and be back for the 2008 elections? All that pink~rainbowing could turn REDaho into BLUEaho.
I am surprised as many folks want him to go. He is pushing the AGJOBS bill alongside Diane Feinstein and Barbara Boxer of California. With the probable deals made for Diane’s FISA vote, it probably has a good chance of passing.
Agriculture is extremely important to the economy of the State of Idaho. The AGJOBS bill Craig has been working hard to pass is focal to that strategy and many in the afflicted Senator’s state know it.
Family values on the other hand, still has the jury out.
Craig is a pervert. Period. All perverts are hypocrites, whether they’re gay or not.
Why would any citizen population want a pervert as their representative? I mean, doesn’t Idaho at least a handful of other potential candidates for the job?
Meantime, if this many people are this anxious to get rid of him, how is it that we’ve been stuck with dick bush for 7 years?
Where’s the outrage there? Even a gang of perverts like Craig couldn’t have created the kind of damage those guys have.
Clinton not a hypocrite?
Ted Kennedy not a hypocrite?
Sen KKK Byrd not a hypocrite?
Comment by Bob — August 29, 2007 @ 12:19 pm
I love it how, whenever the wingnuts can’t defend their own, they have to point their fingers at old “scandals” on the other side.
First, Bill Clinton. His sexual extracurricular activities were reprehensible, but hypocrisy doesn’t come to mind. It would, however, if Bill had spent his career condemning others for like offenses, but he hasn’t.
Second, Ted Kennedy. Ditto above. Furthermore, the Massachusetts voters have returned him to office time and time again since Chappaquiddick, so it’s safe to assume he has their support. If Craig has the support of Idaho voters, I’d say he should stay, too.
Third, Robert Byrd. Still getting bashed for his KKK activities. Having KKK membership in your background (plus holding office in that organization!) should rightly set off warning bells in any reasonable person. However, Byrd’s KKK activities were over six decades ago, and he has renounced the Klan and all it stands for many times since. This could more accurately be called a “change of heart” than hypocrisy. Hypocrisy would be if he condemned the Klan in public but still attended cross burnings under the anonymity of a white pointy hood.
The problem is, Craig got caught in the very type of behavior he condemns with his public face. This IS hypocrisy, no matter how you spin it. As to whether he stays or goes — that should be up to the Idaho voters. Not us, not the press, not the pundits. And it looks like Idahoans aren’t happy.
Comment by missmolly — August 29, 2007 @ 12:43 pm
“Old” doesn’t make it irrelevant, especially if they’re still active in Congress. It means they’ve received a free pass.
Again, breaking any law is hypocrisy, and Kennedy and Byrd, for example, both were given the opportunity to redeem themselves. Mr. Craig should not be held to a higher standard than those who’ve received that second shot.
Mr. Craig should not be held to a higher standard than those who’ve received that second shot.
Comment by Statistico — August 29, 2007 @ 12:54 pm
I agree. And if the Idaho voters want to give Craig that second shot, so be it. But that’s for them to decide. Since the polling is running 55% against Craig, he’s got a difficult sales job ahead of him.
Oh — I need to correct your definition of hypocrisy. “Breaking any law” does not necessarily make one a hypocrite (although it could very well make one a convicted criminal, depending on the severity of the offense). If it did, we would all be hypocrites for driving 5 miles over the speed limit. Hypocrisy is claiming to hold a set of values that you don’t actually subscribe to, or condemning others for offenses you yourself are guilty of.
For example — both Newt Gingrich and Bill Clinton commit adultery around the same time. Gingrich calls loudly for Clinton’s ouster over the offense. Clinton says nothing about Gingrich. Who’s the hypocrite here?
Craig needs to be banished and the rest of the queers need to be rooted out and destroyed like the cancer that they are. These deviates are infiltrating every aspect of our society with their perverted choice of life styles.

Comment by Bob — August 29, 2007 @ 2:10 pm
C’mon, Bob — you can do better than this ad hominem response. Please explain why dictionary definitions constitute “libtardal” thinking. For bonus points, explain why my post is “crazy”.
Republicans have used Family Values as a wedge issue to get elected. They have lied repeatedly, using scare tactics, and appealing to the uneducated rednecks that inhabit much of rural America. You won’t find many gay haters in large metro areas, they deal with gay people on a daily basis and find that the sterotypical version preached by the GOP laughable. The GOP should stop trying to dictate morality when their party has as many gays, adulters, liars (Bush & Cheney for staters), thiefs, and perverts. My message to the GOP, “keep your nose out of my bedroom and my personal life”. The GOP is finding out you reap what you sew!
Clinton a hypocrite? The worst kind. A disgusting pervert hiding behind being a religious liberal. Now that’s hypocrisy!!

Churches aren’t museums for saints, they’re hospitals for sinners. Anybody who wants to pray, worship, and get something out of the sermon is welcome (in most churches, anyway).
If Clinton went to church to get in the pulpit, thump his bible, and preach hellfire and brimstone against the evils of adultery while he’s diddling his intern, then yes — he’d be a hypocrite. But there’s nothing hypocritical about a sinner going to attend church — even if he carries a bible.
Ha ha ha. Get used to it, your Senator is a lying scumbag, and maybe YOU voted for him. No need to say more. Apolgize all you want, we’ve all seen. Typical Republican.
Pretty much like all conservatives, your reality is not bogged down by facts. Despite the country being more blue than ever as the crooked and hypercritical republicans drop like flys, all is good in your world. Yup, the world is still flat, women aren’t allowed to vote. and schools are still segregated, things are just peachy in your world. Hang in there, Dude and don’t let world events and reality bog you down on your efforts for maximum ignorance, you are pretty much there. Oh, and be careful not to drop off the edge of earth.
Bob – At least the Clintons have stuck together and made their marriage work. Remember, judge not lest yee be judged. Before you open your big pie hole, you may want to count on both your fingers and toes the number of marriages and divorces your republican presidential candidates for president have between them. Let’s see, Gulliani’s kids are voting for Obama and hate their father, Fred Thompson married is granddaughter, and the rest are convicted wife beaters…ha! Yea, adultry is much worse thanbeating the wife. You may want to check out the number of divorces and babies in wedlock in red states vs blue states before you totally give away that you have never read a book in your life. Same goes for high school dropouts and juvenile crimes. But go ahead, and keep saying idiotic things don’t let facts drag you down.
On 06/11/07, at about 1200 hours, I was working a plain-clothes detail involving lewd conduct in the main men’s public restroom of the Northstar Crossing in the Lindbergh Terminal. The Airport Police Dept. has received civilian complaints and has made numerous arrests regarding sexual activity in the public restroom.
I entered the men’s restroom and proceeded to an unoccupied stall in the back of the restroom. Other people were in the restroom for their intended purposes. Some, but not all of the bathroom stalls were occupied. While seated in the stall, I was the third stall from the wall which was to my left (East). From my seated position, I could observe the shoes and ankles of a person seated to the right of me. An unidentified person entered the stall to the left of me. From my seated position, I was able to see his shoes and ankles.
At 1213 hours, I could see an older white male with grey hair standing outside my stall. He was standing about three feet away and had a roller bag with him. The male was later identified by Idaho driver’s license as Larry Edwin Crag. I could see Craig look through the crack in the door from his position. Craig would look down at his hands, ‘fidget’ with his fingers, and then look through the crack into my stall again. Craig would repeat this cycle for about two minutes. i was able to see Craig’s blue eyes as he looked into my stall.
At 1215 hours, the male in the stall to the left of me flushed the toilet and exited the stall. Craig entered the stall and placed his roller bag against the front of the stall door. My experience has shown that individuals engaging in lewd conduct use their bags to block the view from the front of their stall. From my seated position, I could observe the shoes and ankles of Craig seated to the left of me. He was wearing dress pants with black dress shoes. At 1216 hours, Craig tapped his toes several times and moved his foot closer to my foot. I moved my foot up and down slowly. While this was occurring, the male in the stall to my right was still present. I could hear several unknown persons in the restroom that appeared to use the restroom for its intended use. The presence of others did not seem to deter Craig as he moved his right foot so that it touched the side of my left foot which was within my stall area.
At 1217 hours, I saw Craig swipe his hand under the stall divider for a few seconds. The swipe went in the direction from the front (door side) of the stall back towards the back wall. His palm was facing towards the ceiling as he guided it along the stall divider. I was only able to see the tips of his fingers on my side of the stall divider. Craig swiped his hand again for a few seconds in the same motion to where I could see more of this fingers. Craig then swiped his hand in the same motion a third time for a few seconds. I could see that it was Craig’s left hand due to the position of his thumb. I could also see Craig had a gold ring on his ring finger as his hand was on my side of the stall divider.
At about 1219 hours, I held my Police Identification in my right hand don by the floor so that Craig could see it. With my left hand near the floor, I pointed towards the exit. Craig responded, “No!” I again pointed towards the exit. Craig exited the stall with his roller bags without flushing the toilet. Without causing a disturbance, I discretely motioned for Craig to exit the restroom. I noticed not all of the stalls were occupied. Craig demanded to see my credentials. I again showed Craig my credentials. Craig kept asking what was going to happen. I told Craig that we would speak in private. Craig said that he would not go. I told Craig that he was under arrest, he had to go, and that I didn’t want to make a scene. Craig then left the restroom.
Once outside the restroom, Craig stopped near the entrance and was hesitant to comply. I told Craig that we would speak in a private area without embarrassing him or causing a disturbance. Craig was still hesitant to follow me at first, but then complied. He followed my towards the Police Operations Center (POC). Detective Nelson was seated outside of the restroom and followed us. Dispatch was notified that we had one in custody at 1222 hours.
Pleading guilty in Minnesota is always strongly suggested especially if it is a misdemeaner charge. The way the system works here is that if you don’t, you will need a high priced lawyer and will have
a case that will drag out for 6 mos to a year with all the bad publicity that goes with it. It is a self serving financial system here.
Every one stands to make money from it. They are always trying to justify their positions so they can keep getting supported by tax dollars. His career stood a better chance of surviving by getting it
over with quickly. The justice system is more interested in destroying peoples lives than actually safeguarding the real judicial system. Now that it is all out there, he has no choice but to resign
so Idaho can move forward. Gay or not is not the issue now….
an ethics investigation should be done to see whether police sitting
in airport bathrooms is actually justified or are they just looking to
increase revenue with fines arrests and fines again.

August 29th, 2007 at 11:48 amWhat’s behind the right’s different response to David Vitter’s call girls and Larry Craig’s boy trouble? In a nutshell, the boys.
For the details, see:
August 29th, 2007 at 11:50 am“Behind the Right’s Double Standard on Craig and Vitter.”
Oh please can he not ask jebus for forgiveness and go to rehab for a few weeks and be back for the 2008 elections? All that pink~rainbowing could turn REDaho into BLUEaho.
August 29th, 2007 at 11:57 amI am surprised as many folks want him to go.
August 29th, 2007 at 12:11 pmYep. I called him and told him should resign. Not because he’s apparently gay, but because he’s a f*cking hypocrite.

Clinton not a hypocrite?

Sen KKK Byrd not a hypocrite?
Clinton vowed to love and cherish the Hillary.
I guess he had an additional clause in his vow
– To love and cherish Monica to?
no hypocrisy here heh Zo :)
kinda like your ex when you ask him to resign?
August 29th, 2007 at 12:23 pmI ditto Jay Randal.

Hell no!

August 29th, 2007 at 12:54 pmMr.
August 29th, 2007 at 1:21 pmCraig needs to be banished and the rest of the queers need to be rooted out and destroyed like the cancer that they are. These deviates are infiltrating every aspect of our society with their perverted choice of life styles.

August 29th, 2007 at 2:08 pmMissmolly typical libtardal thinking on hypocrisy. Kinda crazy don’t u think?
August 29th, 2007 at 2:10 pm99.9 percent: Number of Americans who want Thinkprogress.org to resign from the World Wide Web. The other .01 percent, are the loony morons who post here.
Comment by Statistico — August 29, 2007 @ 10:57 am
That gives us 99.91%. You’re missing a .09%.
Also, some of us just read Think Progress instead of posting here (this is my first post on TP; I just had to comment on this mathematical ineptitude). Perhaps those of us who just read are the “rest of” the .09%.
If you’re going to try to insult us, please be polite enough to get your arithmetic straight, lest you come off merely as an irksome ingrate.

August 29th, 2007 at 2:30 pmCraig’s resignation doesn’t necessarily have to be tender. Just resign.

Check it, he was busted in a police “sting” to catch gay men “hooking-up” in a public bathroom which had been listed on a gay website.
He broke the law.
August 29th, 2007 at 2:36 pmRepublicans have used Family Values as a wedge issue to get elected.

August 29th, 2007 at 3:43 pmAt least Clinton wasn’t trolling around public restrooms for handjobs. I mean you don’t get any nastier or sleazier than that.

August 29th, 2007 at 4:41 pmHa ha ha.

August 29th, 2007 at 6:58 pmBob – At least the Clintons have stuck together and made their marriage work.

Pleading guilty in Minnesota is always strongly suggested especially if it is a misdemeaner charge. The way the system works here is that if you don’t, you will need a high priced lawyer and will have
August 30th, 2007 at 11:18 ama case that will drag out for 6 mos to a year with all the bad publicity that goes with it.
Gay or not is not the issue now….
an ethics investigation should be done to see whether police sitting

increase revenue with fines arrests and fines again.
I bet, at this moment, Bob and Statistico are wedged under a restroom stall together…. enjoying the republican national pastime.
