  12. Libpansiesarescaredofconfrontation Says:

I’d rather have Bush portrayed as a “confrontationalist” (lib media-coined term, obviously) than an “accommodator” because the brand “accommodator” is the one of the two that really carries stigma with it. “Confrontationalist” is even a brand that’s too harsh on Bush, plotting to make him look like a preemptive attack-using, unilateral aggressor. However, when the lib media uses brands like confrontationalist, that only means that Bush puts the interests of the US above the world community (laudable), uses preemptive attack against well-established threats (laudable also), and honorably sticks to his principles (again, laudable). The brand accommodator has more unflattering baggage attached to it because it regresses to images of BJ Clinton, the ultimate accommodator. From Clinton, we see that accommodation equals being too scared to retaliate against terrorism throughout the 90s (helping to bring about 911), signing on to Kyoto at the risk of millions of US jobs, and basing his policies on polling because of insecurity.

Clinton did respond to terrorism he caught the folks who bombed the World Trade center when he was pres. How’s that going for your guy?

He attacked Bin Laden when the embassies were bombed in Africa, despite all the chicken hawk crowing from you conservopussies who didn’t want that to happen and did your best to impede a sitting president from defending the homeland, you traitor.

Just how many jobs has bush saved by not signing Kyoto? How many have gone to china since 2000? How crappy is the economy now compared to Clinton’s last year? How about the deficit? How about you go back to your little hole and the adults fix the mess you republicans have created, again.

All Bush has done is posture like a Neanderthal cowboy, strutting bow-legged and showing off his hard-on like he wants to f*#% everyone in America. 56. Stevo Says:

“Polls don’t matter”, but Bush doesn’t want to look bad. There’s an important conflict here that reveals something deeper.

As long as Bush looks non-conciliatory, the congress will be unable to even appeal to him for change, believing in his concocted image. I believe this shows, in a little way, that the administration still has some respect for congressional constitutional authority, though it is quite obvious that it has been child’s play to manipulate that authority so far.

The canary in the coal mine died a long time ago, but I find comfort with a flashlight.

Bobwurst: come on now, at least be honest.

Yes, some of the masterminds behind the first WTC bombing were caught and imprisoned. However, the next events on the Clinton-terrorism fighting timeline aren’t so friendly. We could discuss the shamefull retreat from Somali on which Osama Bin Laden commented “they planned for a long struggle, but the U.S. rushed out in shame.”

We could discuss how we knew where Bin Laden was about ten times during the Clinton administration. We could talk about the canceled operation in May 1998 that would have snagged Bin Laden at his Tarnak Farms compound in Afghanistan. Or the Tomahawk missile fired at the Sudanese asprin factory. Or the 48 hours notice that the administration gave to local leaders before missiles were fired at training camps in Afganistan, which *shocker* didn’t get our target because they *somehow* found out. Or the time in December of 1998 when we could have taken out Bin Laden in Kandahar, but Clinton cancelled it, worried about colateral damage. Or the plan to use an HC 130 gunship against bin Laden’s headquarters, later shelved due to “an unwillingness to take risks and a lack of vision and understanding” according to Lt General William Boykin. Or in May 1999 when “three opportunities were missed in 36 hours” when Bin Laden was known to be in Kandahar for five days, but Clinton was too worried about collateral damage. Or we could discuss Janet Reno’s new legal barriers that prevented the CIA from sharing intelligence with the FBI before 9/11. Also, there’s the pesky estimate of the 10,000 to 20,000 terrorists that were trained in bin Laden’s camps in the years before 9/11.

It’s funny you mention Kyoto, which was voted down 95-0 in the senate. I guess Bush wasn’t the only one who saw it was a terrible idea?

Nice of you to ask, 3.2 million manufacturing jobs have been lost since 2000 either to new technology that renders them obsolete, or to workers in other countries. However, over ten million jobs have been created since then, and unemployment is well into what is considered full employement, at 4.4%.

I’m also glad you asked about the economy now compared to 2000. Unemployment is virtually the same; exports are higher; imports are higher, which means consumption is higher; personal income is up (even when adjusted for inflation), and purchasing power is up; homeownership is up; the trade deficit is just slightly higher, but that doesn’t really factor into economic quality. We could go on and on here.

Yes, how about the deficit? Clinton was blessed with a windfall thanks to the tech boom; Bush had to deal with the tail end of the boom (ie the bursting of the bubble), and a major domestic terrorist tragedy that compounded the already receinding economy. We could have worried about not having a deficit, and allowed the economy to falter even more; but instead, taxes were cut and we created a deficit, but as Bush predicted, the economy has since experienced growth every single year, and the deficit is on track to be eliminated, “tax cuts for the rich” and all.

Faced with strong popular support for labor laws and environmental responsibility, corporate America has simply exported the problems elsewhere.

“I lived on min wage for a long time. But it’s not poverty.”

The definition of poverty in the US is $9800 for one person, and $20,000 for a family of four. At current Federal minimum wage, one full-time worker would be just over poverty level, and two full-time workers would be just over for the family of four.

You “lived” on minimum wage for a long time - I’m guessing you were young, healthy, and unencumbered with dependents and responsibilities, with a low threshold for quality of life expectations, in a low cost part of the country.

Most people earning minimum wage are probably not “in poverty” because those jobs usually go to students living at home or young people maybe sharing a flat and who can risk doing without such niceties as health insurance or a car.

Ted Kazinski was happy as a clam living off of grubs in his Montana shack, so sure, it’s possible to live well on poverty income, so long as you have a flexible definition of “well”.

Yes there is hypocrisy involved. But really. This the thing Republicans choose to jump ship on their own on??? What about the war. They still huddle around the Fox Republican leadership on the war, torture, secret spying and so many other issues that cost American LIVES, hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars, and our values and civil liberties. Where are their priorities? Why are they turning on this guy? Because Craig didn’t turn to them before blowing up this scandal. In other words, he screwed me so I’m screwing him. That’s how the Fox Republicans think. It’s all about them. Not about the good of America. So sad. So darn sad.

Why do you insist on displaying such ignorance and proving your lack of education? Is that your kick, making a jackass of yourself? Is that your ony attention-getting device? Do your parents hate you so much you must embarrass your whole family by this intellectual jerking off? Are you bound and determined to prove that rightards are approaching extinction because they are mentally unequipped to deal with life?

I say yes. And good riddance.

“Why are they turning on this guy?”

It’s hard to believe none of his Senate buddies knew he was gay.

They just wanted to get past the next election, and he confirms for voters that the GOP is little more than a secular Vatican. That’s why.

So we should eliminate cheap labor? How is that going to help the poor laborers?
    Comment by r — August 29, 2007 @ 9:23 pm

How about eliminating the pigs at the trough of capitalistic welfare? the CEOs making 324 times what their workers make, but fighting to their last breath any raise in the minumum wage, or unionization? The boss paying $29,000 a year and cutting benefits and pension plans while taking home $10.2 million? As usual, you don’t have a clue as to the real world. You live off your parents and their welfare, while families scimp and go into debt for their lifetimes to try to get a little piece of what the pigs are selling them; shiny new TVs on easy credit, the American dream of bullshit materialism. an dy Ceo sho9uld be allowed to make as much as he can, as long as it’s no more than 20 times what the workers make. Anything else is robber baron theft of services, indentured servitude, and supremely unAmerican. It’s disgusting as well, and indefensible. Only rightards without soul would buy into this pathology.
