Much like others here, I want to see an end to this disaster asap, but am stuck with the historical mendacious words and actions from some congressional GOP members who are calling for withdrawl from Iraq. Much like with the Military Commission Act a.k.a. torture bill, we are beginning to see "moderate" GOP senators and congressmen calling for withdrawl, which is all well and good, but why? What, other than playing a little '08 election C.Y.A. (Hello Norm Coleman!) is their true motive? My sneaking suspicion is if there is an agreement to troop reduction this fall, it will only serve to increase our chances for attack against Iran. The lower number of forces on the ground in Iraq/Green Zone, USA, the less retaliatory casualties we'll have after our first salvo with Iran. By no means am I advocating for any further reason to keep our troops where they didn't belong in the first place, but it appears that with the overabundance of naval vessels floating in the Gulf, Bushco is going to look to minimize casualties and can even appear to be finally serving the will of the people by doing this.

This is all one great big chess game to all those calling the shots here. It would be of zero surprise to me if this scenario ended up being the reality we face this fall and into '08.

I have posted this elsewhere, but it seems just as applicable here:

Yes, and what has been wasted could have fixed social security for years to come, if not the rest of this century, and half a dozen more of important programs that are unfunded or short funded, because of Mr. Bush's war! But, what Mr. Bush wants to do is continue funding this war of choice on credit! Yes, increase the national debit by so many more billions of dollars. That’s just what the Republicans have been doing every since Reagan started that financial fiasco called “trickle down.” Look at the state of our national debt and who has caused the bulk of it here:

http://www.lafn.org/politics/gvdc/Natl_Debt_Chart.html

If you look at this site, you can see that is/has been the Republicans, starting with Reagan, that are responsible for the vast increase in our debt, Bush 1, and now this warmonger of president continued on the same course. If you do not believe this National Debt is affecting our financial well being, consider:

1. It is, in part, responsible for the loss of value of the US dollar against other world currencies, especially the European Euro; 45+% in only the last five years.

2. Other nations fleeing from the US dollar as a hedge currency hasten the decline in value.

3. Potential increase in the price of oil when oil producing countries start pricing oil in Euros, rather than dollars. (A couple have already done so, and others are considering doing so.)

4. Some holders of our national debt are NOT our friends, China for example, and if they start calling in the debt, it could cause financial ruin for this nation.

5. Last, but certainly not least, Bush is mortgaging the future of our greandchildren and maybe even their grandchildren’s, due to this idiotic war!

“We owe Japan $714.9 billion; China, $191.1 billion; the United
Kingdom, $152.5 billion; the Caribbean Banking Center, $76.2 billion;
Korea, $69.3 billion; OPEC nations, and we wonder by gasoline is so
high, OPEC nations, we have borrowed as a Nation $66.6 billion from
them. The list goes on and on. In fact, we have borrowed, this
administration has borrowed more money from foreign governments and
foreign banks in less than 5 years than the previous 42 Presidents
combined...”

>TP, I’d like to propose a couple of new topics

NEW? these two things are apparently the only talking points the trolls have left, they've been bringing them up incessantly when they are unable to defend the allegations that get posted here.

ooooh,,, a civil fine and taking money from someone who was a criminal although they wernt aware he was a criminal at the time that they took it.. (thank god repubs do background checks on all thier donors_keeps them honest and unindicted)

I'm picturing a right wing analouge of TP where one shady hilary donor and a paltry (by big busines standards) fine on ACT is all they post about, over over and over again.... over half of the stuff TP posts is new material, new dirt on the rethugs....and yet these two isolated events are rehashed over and over again in a weak and limp wristed response.

lets not talk about them and say we did....what the next thing up on the menu we need to talk about Cynipeed??

>True progressives would be about cleaning up the system
>— not just hammering one side!

right.. please point me to a right wing site that doesnt hammer one side on a consistent basis... sure im sure some of your sites are griping about craig, who basically attempted to engage in public, but not paid for, sex, but im sure they are all keeping silent about vitter, who basically admitted to a crime, paying for sex.. simply because no prosecutor decided to charge vitter with a crime in no way makes his admission morally irrelevant. but calling on him to resign would put the seat in dem hands, so you're not going to see it happen...

> Or mabe we could talk about Hillary getting campaign donations from a >convicted felon

only if you care to give us your insight about all the people abrahoff gave donations to and how many of them have already gone to jail or at least under investigation

Time for the heist to end.
Someone must call for sanity and demand the truth no matter who ends up in jail.
All money stolen by vp man and his gang should be collected and given to Katrina rebuilding.
This is where are attention should have been anyway.
You want the world to see a great nation?Show them how we take care of our own.
Criminals are criminals no matter how they dress.Don't let the suits fool you.
And don't get distracted. This has all been a planned distraction to keep the world eys off all the gold.

Try looking at the US deficit and you'll see that to balance the budget each American man/woman/child would have to pay in taxes 29,000 dollars. Now as I read the comments you do the math and the about is going up each day. We allowed this to happen and we should all say Thank You Mr. Bush for putting our country is the largest debt in the history. So when some of you on this blog lose your job or your home you can be proud of the support you gave the criminals that robbed you. Just keep handing out that US Treasury money to Bush/Cheney went ever they want it as they don't have to tell you what it's for nor will they tell you the truth.

"You think Meek is making it up?"

No but your link refers to an incident that happened in 2004. Meek just got back very recently.

This gentleman has the people in mind.

But, it's probably like asking his constituents for $150.

I don't want to contribute to a lost cause. So be it.

"Let me borrow $50"?!?!? It's more like asking any of us, "Let me borrow $50,000"! He shows a pretty graphic example of how out of touch most of our "representatives" are.

You from Indiana?

Comment by troqua — August 31, 2007 @ 2:44 pm

2 states west of that. I don't quite get the reference. Of course, I was being sarcastic about how safe Iraq is as Florida's repub was just in Iraq and was fired upon. But obviously, the fact that his plane didn't actually get shot down proves that all is well ;-)

Tracy sez:

I just talked to one of my friends a Navy SEEBE who just got back from Iraq about a month ago and he said that the last of the Coast Guard units were sent home about 6 months ago.

So how do you explain this?

You think Meek is making it up?

(BTW, you're going to have to do a bit better than "I heard from this guy...". I provided a link...I expect you to do the same.)

We all support the troops.

Some support them by trying to bring them home to their families.

Some support them by sending them down that same road again and again and again till the find that IED with their name on it.
