Condi accepts that Iraq is ‘a stain’ on her legacy.

In an analysis of Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice’s efforts to “reshape her legacy,” New York Times reporter Helene Cooper notes today that Rice “is trying hard to rewrite her legacy to include something more than Iraq.” As for Iraq, Rice’s “colleagues and friends say that she has accepted that Iraq is a stain that she probably cannot remove before she leaves office.”

Well, Condi, there’s always shoe-shopping, promoting golf, being NFL Commish and sucking off GDumbya’s miniscule little dick.

    Good luck with all that.

A stain? Thousands of dead, wounded, mutilated people, ethnic cleansing on her watch, millions of refugees, world hatred toward us increased.

    A “stain?”

My God these people are disconnected from reality. The best thing she could do for her name would be to resign.

Condi was initially hired away from academic life by Poppy Bush to tutor his idiot son and help prepare him for a political career. The fact that Condi barely was able to toilet train the Chimp and teach him to use a knife and fork is a strong indicator of how successful she’s been. Remember how disgusting Bush was at the meeting with Blair and Merkel when he loudly smacked his food in Tony’s face and then tried to give Angela Merkel a back rub? And for “mushroom cloud” Condi, “what August 6th PDB?” Condi, shoe-shopping-during-Katrina Condi it’s been all downhill from then.

  12. Gregor Samsa says:

Thousands of dead, maimed, millions of displaced, one of the biggest humanitarian crisis in the world. All of this under her and her boss’ watch, due to an invasion that needed not be but they pushed for anyway.

And she calls one of the worst foreign policy and military blunder in American history a “stain”. Fits nicely with Bush’s “just a comma” comment.

Goes to show what a callous, uncaring, detached lot the people serving in this administration (and their supporters) are.

What’s with these people who are “trying hard to rewrite their legacy”. Your legacy is your legacy and you can’t re-write it. You can contribute to it, but you can’t rewrite it. If Condi wants to leave office with anything to show for her years as Bush’s work wife, then she needs to get to work to convince Bush that attacking Iran IS A VERY BAD IDEA. That would be her one accomplishment when she leaves office, if she were able to pull it off.

Wow, it took 17 whole posts for an idiot troll to bring up Clinton. Trolls, you are slipping. I would have expected the Clinton post within the first 10 posts.

Somehow to Rethugs Clinton getting a blow job from a willing female is worse than Bush invading and occupying a country that was no threat to us, causing millions of people to be displaced from their country, another million dead and almost 4,000 of our citizens dead.

That’s how out of tough with reality Rethugs are.

Unfortunately, “rewrite” seems to be commonplace in this administration. We’ll rewrite the GAO report, rewrite our reasons for going into Iraq, rewrite the constitution for that matter. If we put a pretty face on it for the American public, it’ll all be okay. And if you can’t rewrite it, just delete it.

More’s the point, the useless bint was National Security Adviser on August 6, when she read the PDB outloud to her halfwit pupil, and three weeks later when the “panicked” CIA analyst to his pretend-ranch to tell him again, and he said “Okay, you’ve covered your ass”, and went to pull weeds.

Gonzales was the most powerful Latino in government. Does that make him a great leader? What if Hillary becomes president? Will you call her a great leader? Will that intrinsically be worth 1000+ examples as well?

No, she holds a powerful seat, that doesn’t mean she’s powerful. And most would argue Pelosi is the most powerful woman in American government, given her position in the line of succession and her position in the House. It appears Condi is simply a figurehead, a playmate for the president, a bobblehead yes-woman for Cheney’s policies.

#17 – Clinton actually left the coutry in better shape than he found it. When Clinton came into Office, there was a huge national debt due to unbridaled tax cuts to the wealthy (Supply Side Economics). When he left, there was a surplus. So, by your reasoning, bush is a great President because he has saddled the Nation with debt? As for Monica, she was a legal aged women, not a litttle boy. ok, here are a few I could find.

    1. She spends many of her weekends at Camp David with Bush, watching baseball and football and doing jigsaws with the first family.

    2. Rice is an accomplished pianist who plays with an ensemble as often as every other week.

    3. Rice took up golf in August 2005. “I’m enjoying it immensely. I find it’s one of the things that really gets me out, gets my mind clear, and I really enjoy it.”

    4. Rice’s favorite movie is Casablanca. “I watch whenever it comes on. . . . ”

No wonder she doesn’t have time for her State Department duties!

  55. ronjazz says:

Very, very weak today, CT_VD. Defending the failure of the woman responsible for 9/11. Very weak, very unpatriotic. And yet, you come with no facts, no evidence to support your tired, cliched talking points. Haven’t you noticed how many of your favorite traitors have abandoned you? Can’t you smell the total defeat of the repuclicRAT party, even over the crap in your drawers? Don’t you see that you are alone here, outnumbered by 10 to 1, as you are all over America? Don’t you see that you have been lied to, used, battered and abused? or is that OK with you, because you’re a sick pervert like your leaders?

Anyway, you still haven’t answered the question, which is completely on point. Let’s hear it.

#34, Thousands of American dead, Tens of thousands horribly injured, nearly a million Iraqis killed in a nation that did NOTHING to harm us, no WMD, no nuclear program, no ties to al-Qaeda… I’d say she pretty much defined her own legacy, pal.

  61. Jane E. Schneider says:

Condi has achieved based upon her merits. Hillary has ascended based upon her feeling of entitlement. Previously being “First Lady” doesn’t prepare somebody for the presidency, and U.S. senators don’t have a big track-record of being elected president. It just doesn’t provide day-to-day managerial experience that Governors and other officials have. While Condi has never been a governor, a cabinet secretary, I feel, is still more worth than a senator because it’s high-level executive-branch experience. While Condi doesn’t plan to run, but she’d still be of more worth than Clinton.

    Comment by CT_V1 — September 1, 2007 @ 1:13 pm

You’re still not answering Zooey’s question. Just BEING in a position does not prove one’s worth. What specific foreign-policy successes can you name that Condi is responsible for? That’s what you consider an example of the good things she has done for our government and our country. Pathetic. Not to mention the fact that I will disagree with you. I believe that Nancy Pelosi is the most powerful woman in government at this time. Condi has been marginalized by Bush and Company and really has nothing to contribute. Nancy Pelosi has enough power in her hands to bring down the Bush Crime Family. Only if she chooses to use it. Thus far she hasn’t.

Russia has a lot of weaponry, maybe old, but much of it is still effective and both countries have no qualms about unleashing their respective might if they feel so compelled.

And our military has been squandered for no reason and to rebuild it will take years and Billions of dollars. The loss of our best and brightest senior officers and the large number of recent Acadamy grads, is mind-boggling. The fact we have to pay $40,000 signing bonuses just to get warm bodies is very telling.

Rice will manage Iraq’s ‘new phase’
    By Judy Keen, USA TODAY

WASHINGTON — President Bush is giving his national security adviser, Condoleezza Rice, the authority to manage postwar Iraq and the rebuilding of Afghanistan.

While some saw it as a sign of frustration with the handling of postwar efforts, Bush and other officials said the move is a logical next step and reflected no dissatisfaction with progress.

“We want to cut through the red tape and make sure that we’re getting the assistance there quickly so that they can carry out their priorities,” Bush spokesman Scott McClellan said. “It’s a new phase, a different phase we’re entering.”

Rice will head the Iraq Stabilization Group, which will have coordinating committees on counterterrorism, economic development, political affairs and media messages. Each committee will be headed by a Rice deputy and include representatives of the State, Defense and Treasury departments and the CIA. …

The new structure will give Bush’s top White House aides a stronger voice in decisions and will make the president more directly accountable. Because of their close relationship, many people will assume Bush signed off on Rice’s decisions. ..

President Bush also weighed in on the reason for his decision.

Rice “is going to make sure that the efforts continue to be coordinated so that we continue to make progress,” Bush said at a news conference with President Mwai Kibaki of Kenya. “And listen, we’re making good progress in Iraq. Sometimes it’s hard to tell it when you listen to the filter” of the news media.

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A34519-2004May17.html

With all the chaos and uncertainty in Iraq, this would be a good time to call on the White House’s Iraq Stabilization Group. At least it would have been a good time to call on the Stabilization Group if the group itself had not become, er, unstable.

President Bush and his aides announced with some fanfare in October that they were creating the Iraq Stabilization Group within the National Security Council to increase the White House’s role in coordinating Iraq policy. “We’re trying to mobilize the entire U.S. government to support this effort” in Iraq, national security adviser Condoleezza Rice said at the time.

But seven months later, the four original leaders of the Stabilization Group have taken on new roles, and only one remains concerned primarily with Iraq. A search of the White House Web site indicates the phrase “Iraq Stabilization Group” has not been mentioned publicly since October. …

“The White House has ordered a major reorganization of American efforts to quell violence in Iraq and Afghanistan and to speed the reconstruction,” the New York Times trumpeted on its front page on Oct. 6. The Iraq Stabilization Group, led by Rice, was called an effort to assert more White House control over Iraq and to reduce the Pentagon’s role.

“We’re making good progress in Iraq,” Bush said when asked about the group then. “Condi’s team is going to make sure that the efforts continue to be coordinated so that we continue to make progress.”

Bush, Condi, Cheney, and today’s conservatism are all national security problems this nation must face, no matter how late we may be in doing so.

So, like Bush, you say “only 71-77,000 civilians were killed by our military interventon? Guess they are the commas he was talking about. ANd yo seem to align with that feeling.

And what about the collateral damage, the other 500,000 +/- Iraqi’s that have died during our illegal occupation? Or the million+ that have fled their country?

Again, just numbers, nothing to worry about, right? Following the Darth and Rover value proposition: “IF they ain’t my kids, aren’t rich, and don’t vote or contribute to us, F@ck’em.

Not entirely true. Some of us do it simply for fun. Let me explain. Henri Bergson had an interesting theory about the comic, e.g. what it is that makes us laugh. To him, comedy was created when a person displayed characteristics that were in some way “machine-like.” I won’t go into it any further here, but it is the robotic, knee-jerk repetition of phrases like “cut and run,” “family values,” “homosexual agenda,” “stay the course,” and so many other poo tidbits that neocons sputter up in place of actual independent thoughts that make them seem like machines to me. And so I have to laugh, because otherwise I scream and that hurts my throat.

I don’t speak for all liberal, I don’t even speak for everyone on this site (much to everyone else’s relief, I’m sure.) The man who made today’s conservatives into his image? Union hating, authoritarian, anti-science, homophobic and of course the big one for your Godfather, theocratic.

Hey Michael old sock–that line about Republicans=Family Values is looking a little strained these days. I’m afraid the association is more like Republicans = “Pedophilia,” and “closeted,” and “Tearoom toe touching” and “Wide stance” in the mind of the general public.

And look at your leading GOP presidential candidates. Of the top two, both have a history of running as pro-choice, pro-gay rights social liberals. Only difference now is that one is trying to downplay it and the other is trying to convince the Goopers he’s had a change of heart. If you bozos really believed any of that crap you spout about “family values” these guys wouldn’t be able to raise a dime. But they’re both hauling in millions. Laying bare the simple truth:
