Gore confirms VP is part of executive branch.

In June, House investigators learned that Vice President Cheney exempted his office from a presidential executive order, arguing that the Office of the Vice President is not an “entity within the executive branch.” In a recent interview with Harvard’s alumni magazine, former Vice President Al Gore confirmed that the Vice President is indeed part of the executive:

You were often referred to as the most powerful vice president.

GORE: That was before Dick Cheney.

Point taken. Cheney has made the argument that the vice presidency is not part of the executive branch. Is he right?

GORE: (Laughs) Of course the vice presidency is part of the executive branch! But I fear that I’m losing my objectivity where President Bush and Cheney are concerned. Not much surprises me anymore. I have a lot of friends who share the following problem with me: Our sense of outrage is so saturated that when a new outrage occurs, we have to download some existing outrage into an external hard drive in order to make room for a new outrage.

In fact, Mr. Gore feels so outraged that he refused to fly over Texas in his private jet while conducting a cross-country campaign to speak about the dangers of global warming.

It doesn’t say that half the benchmarks have been met. It says that only 3 have been met, with another 4 partially met. Partially met could mean only 1% of that benchmark was met (i.e. not totally unmet, as were 11 of the benchmarks). And Brassmask is creaming his shorts over the fact only 3 benchmarks were fully met?

  27. bilbobaggins says:

Why? Throughout the history of the United States the Vice President has been part of the Executive Branch. The White House’s web site has (had?) him as part of the Executive Branch. Now, just because Chaney says he isn’t, so that he can keep his records secret, it’s a matter for the court to decide.

You know, you reptards have really gone too far.

    Comment by Brassmask

This is obviously the RNC talking point of the day…”Almost half of the benchmarks have been met”. Doesn’t matter that it is a lie.

Three have been met and they are all procedural things like setting up committees. Four have been partially met which could be anything from, someone wrote a memo on it to actual progress.

The fact of the matter is that we are no closer to any kind of political reconciliation in Iraq than we were before the escalation. If anything we are further away from the possibility of reconciliation.

But, the RNC loves to spin their yarns and today’s is that almost half of the benchmarks have been met.

It’s unbelievable how stupid the 28%ers are. I’m going to love to see all their heads explode on the day after the 2008 election.

If Gore enters the race this quote about downloading outrage to an external hard drive will come back to haunt him. He was hounded in 2000 by the image distorters as someone who is stiff and unlikeable, you wouldn’t want to have a beer with him, etc. Say what you want but people respond in that way, and you do too. Now, he more than anyone should be aware of his reputation for being mechanical and even robot-like. There are, like, a thousand cartoons that came out in 1999 and 200 depicting Gore as a robot. And he provides sound bytes about downloading his outrage to an external hard drive?!!! Nevermind that bit about Bush’s Crawford Ranch being way more environmentally friendly than Gore’s house. Comment by Xavier Hollander — September 4, 2007 @ 6:06 pm

    You’re out of your mind.

The Vice President’s office is not empowered in Article 1. It is empowered in Article II. In Article II, the Executive Branch the Office of Vice President is defined and coupled with the office of the President.

The only mentions of the Veep in Article 1 are naming him President of the Senate, which it then goes on to define it as an honorary title holding no real power or duties other than in the event of a tie, at which point the senate essentially defers the exectutive branch by pernitting the Presidents Vice President to cast the deciding vote.

You will learn that in any accredited High School or College throughout the United States. :|

Just what the hell are they teaching you guys at Messiah U these days?

  65. BARTLEBEE says:

No one disputes that the Vice President has a role in the Senate.

But that role is small, and does not empower or define his office. His office is empowered in Article II. Someone anyone with a good public school education in this country would know.
