Service to Cheney is like serving in Iraq.

On this evening’s Hardball, Ron Christie, a former aide to Vice President Cheney, equated his work in the White House to serving in Iraq. While debating Iraq war veteran Jon Soltz, Christie said to Soltz, “I am pleased and honored by the fact that you chose to wear the uniform of this country, but I also chose to serve this country, and I’ve been involved in public service serving the United States and the American people.” “Unlike you Jon,” he continued, “I’ve actually sat in the Oval Office.” Watch it:

And there it is folks: that is the standard for honorable service to your country in 2007AD--whether or not the current coward-in-chief allows you into his office.

Military service in the wars of choice started by the coward-in-chief just doesn't cut it.

Can someone please take this Christie guy off the air? He continues to say the stupidest things.

What else can one say. Only when these "officials" kids start serving in the battlefield will you see change.

Is it no surprise that the biggest export to Iraq from Southern California is Mexican Sweet Brad (PAN) from La Grande in Santa Ana, to the kids serving there!

You keep referring to Soltz's "negligible iraq service."

What was your service like? How long were you over there?

I'd like to understand your basis for denigrating or minimizing the military service of others in a war zone, and would hope it would somehow be based on your own heroic efforts.

You're not going to disappoint me, are you?

And is this supposed to be a badge of honor? While Jon Stoltz was out there getting shot at, this asshat sat in his chair in the White House and we are supposed to honor him for it? He looks young enough to enlist. If he's working for Chaney he thinks that what we are doing in Iraq is the right thing to do. So why is he in the White House and not over in Iraq fighting for something he believes in?

Ron Christie is a talking POS. He must be under contract with MSNBC - he is on so often and is guaranteed to be obnoxious.
As I saw that on TV, my jaw dropped. Christie equated his sitting in the Oval Office (and drinking the communal koolaid) with serving in Iraq or in the military anywhere.

#11, I believe the response to that was Jon laughed out loud. Jon takes on Christie point for point, but Christie has learned well from his teachers - always talk louder and longer than your debater.

Even Tweety was astonished at the take given by Christie on the crass chimp-in-chief.
The topic was how unseemly was it for Bushie to talk about filling the old coffers after he leaves the White House while people are dying every day in Iraq for his tragicly mistaken war.
I don't agree with Tweety much, but today he could not contain his shocking disgust with the uncouth George Bush.

Hmmm...I can only conclude you thought I was requesting information from christie--when I was *actually* looking for a response from "Conservativesoutdebateanti-warfoolseachtime"----who kept referring to the "neglibible iraq service" of Soltz.

But re: christie----he made himself look like an ass on national tv by actually trying to compare him having a job in the administration and attending meetings with military service in a war zone.

A true YouTube moment. I hope this gets distributed far and wide, in particular among the soldiers in iraq, so they can see how the people running the government really feel about how tough they have it compared with the life of a soldier.

    Brothers In Arms indeed.

  38. veritas Says:

John Soltz is an ass. His message is in stark contrast to other messages put out by the democratic party. He tries to say that if you haven't worn the uniform, or been to Iraq then you cannot comment. However, time and time again we hear mouthpieces in the democratic party saying that you don't have to have served in order to criticize the debacle.

John Soltz is what is wrong with politics in this country. Rather than trying to find workable solutions to things, he wants to drive wedges.

Actually, that's not what he said at all. Remember, the topic was regarding Bush's crass plans to use his presidency to cash in on the lecture tour. Jon was making the point that it's offensive to soldiers and veterans, and talking about how soldiers feel about such a comment.

  54. bilbogaggins Says:

John Soltz is what is wrong with politics in this country. Rather than trying to find workable solutions to things, he wants to drive wedges.
    Comment by veritas

That sounds a lot like someone else I know... Now who would that be?? I know, Dick Chaney....George Bush. They are the kings of driving wedges. And they are chicken hawks.

I have heard Jon Stolz talk many times and I have NEVER heard him say that if you have not served in the military you can't comment on what is going on in Iraq. What I have heard him say is that all these people who have never served in the military (like AEI members, George Bush and Chaney) are telling the Generals who have a lifetime of service how to run the military and how to run the war. He thinks it is wrong that when Bush disagrees with something a general says, he fires that general and finds one who does. He also thinks it is wrong that all these people are happy to send our children off to Iraq and yet none of them have sent their children. That is pretty much what I have heard him say and I agree with everything he has said.with him.

  55. troqua Says:

Yeah, that was the topic. But then Soltz said something like:

“Excuse me, I don’t have to debate you because I was in Iraq!”

    Soltz… what a douche.

    Comment by GAIVS IVLIVS CAESAR — September 4, 2007 @ 8:00 pm

Nope. Let me make this shorter and easier to understand for you.

Jon: As a soldier, I'm offended.

    Christie: You're wrong.

Jon: I won't be lectured to by someone who's never served.

See how Christie tried to minimize and deny Jon's opinion? That's the only thing Jon objected to. The rest of it is Christie's memories of playing army with Dick in the Oval Office.

christie started to tell Soltz why what bush said wasn't insulting to the troops, to which Soltz responded that he didn't need a lecture from someone who has never worn the uniform.

    The point being:

    Which is a legitimate stand.

  62. BARTLEBEE Says:

ANYONE who tries what John Soltz did is WRONG! Party affiliation should not have anything to do with it. That is what is wrong with both parties. Each one pulls the same bunk time and time again. In the end, we the people get the shaft.

It will take you awhile to research them so you better logon over there. Here's a hint: Ted Stevens, Don Young, Lisa Murkowski, and, that's only the Alaska delegation. I've given you a nice start, now run along. Before you start coming over here with your lack of data and facts, clean up your own site. It's 8:35 p.m., you've got a couple hours tops and your page will be nice and fresh for the bottom-feeders who visit it.

  98. mcvain Says:

Besides the picture on his own website, does anybody have any actual verification that Jon Soltz served in Iraq?

    Comment by Larry — September 4, 2007 @ 8:38 pm

    LOL, redicurous!

  99. Not Canadian Says:

He should NOT resign from the senate.

    Comment by Larry

Hmm, he's not going to listen to a fool like you.

  100. troqua Says:

Larry, I'm pretty sure Soltz has been thoroughly vetted. If he was a fake, don't you think he'd have been exposed by Rove by now?

    From his HuffPo bio:

Jon Soltz, Co-Founder and Chair of VoteVets.org, is a leader of the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans community and is originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. From May to September 2003, Soltz served as a Captain during Operation Iraqi Freedom, deploying logistics convoys with the 1st Armored Division. During 2005, Soltz was mobilized for 365 days at Fort Dix New Jersey, training soldiers for combat in Afghanistan and Iraq. He also served his country with distinction in the Kosovo Campaign as a Tank Platoon Leader between June and December 2000. Soltz is a graduate of Washington & Jefferson College with dual degree in Political Science and History. He has completed graduate work at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public and International Affairs.

  101. Jesus Cristie, Ron is a douche Says:

Unlike you Jon, I visited the whitehouse the other day while touring D.C.

While I was there I used the bathroom too. I even had a friendly Republican Senator from Idaho tapping at my foot. How's THAT for servicing...I mean serving your country?!

  102. circusfifthfloor Says:

Gotta be some trouble in "River City", when they have to look that far down the bench for help. If it wasn't our republic imploding before our eyes, it would be rather funny. No one can take much pleasure watching this unfold. Scarry times, indeed.

  103. troqua Says:

And Jake, wherever you are. Please do not plagiarize Soltz's military biography.

  104. cobalt90 Says:

Ron Christie is exactly the kind of little whore the administration likes to keep around in case they need to throw someone under the bus in order to avoid a call for accountability.

And I will laugh when it happens.

  105. sconset Says:

Ron Christie is such a loser. I agree this guy must camp out at NBC. What does he DO for a living? He worked in the WH for like 6 months and suddenly, he's this great authority.

Cross-eyed Christie is a full-fledged member of the MarK Foley, Larry Craig, Mitch McConnell Closet Case Club. If Christie had wings he would have flown out of his seat on that Hardball clip. He's another closet case.

  106. mcvain Says:

Do you think that MSNBC hasn’t confirmed his service?

    Comment by ronjazz — September 4, 2007 @ 8:43 pm

haha, can't blame a guy for working under gannon rules, i suppose. fool me twice and all that, lol.

  107. cobalt90 Says:

Has anybody seen him in Iraq for those 4 months?

Has anyone seen YOU in Iraq EVER, Larry?

  108. Not Canadian Says:

Has anybody seen him in Iraq for those 4 months?

    Comment by Larry

Of course not. Your wingtard friends are too busy fighting in the 101st Keyboard Commando unit to ACTUALLY spend time in Iraq.

  109. troqua Says:

Actually, the allegation against Craig is false. He is fighting it in court and he will be vinidated. He did nothing wrong and should NOT resign from the senate.

    Comment by Larry — September 4, 2007 @ 8:46 pm

Of course you know he pleaded guilty, right?

  110. BARTLEBEE Says:

Actually, the allegation against Craig is false. He is fighting it in court and he will be vinidated.

    Comment by Larry craig — September 4, 2007 @ 8:46 pm

Well ok, he might be vinidated.

    But he'll never be vindicated.

  111. Left Coast Mike Says:

He sat in the Oval Office…..On Bush’s lap.

    Comment by Largo
    Face first...

  112. Not Canadian Says:

    LOL!

Going to be hard to defend oneself after ALREADY PLEADING GUILTY.

    F*cking retards.

  113. Lt. Colonel Fred Seamon Says:

    To Conservativesoutdebateanti-warfoolseachtime

How dare you denigrate the Iraq service of Jon Soltz, calling him a treasonous soldier. He and I, a vet of two Vietnam tours, including one in special operations, truly care about our men and women in uniform. They are our brothers and sisters.

Conversely, they are nothing more than cannon fodder to Bush and his warmongering cowardly draft dodging neocon co-conspirators who have the blood of our soldiers and untold thousands of Iraqis on their hands.

I hope you noticed that Jon Soltz is no John Kerry. He didn't for a second take any shit from chickenhawk Christie, who incredulously attempted to equate combat service with his "hazardous duty" in the ever dangerous confines of the Oval Office.

And don't you dare describe service in a combat zone, where all soldiers are under constant threat of being killed or wounded by snipers or IEDs, as "negligible".

If you want to call those who have served our country honorably in wartime, putting ourselves voluntarily in harm's way and who have come to oppose war, especially an illegal, immoral war like the one Bush lied us into in Iraq, traitors, I have a deal for you. Call me a traitor to my face, and this old 69 year old will punch your lights our. I shouldn't say this, because I oppose violence in all its forms, but traitor is one of those words that sets me off.

  114. Keith Says:

Kinda like all of Romney's sons doing their duty for their country by campaigning for their dad. What hypocrites!

  115. BARTLEBEE Says:

Has anybody seen him in Iraq for those 4 months?

    Comment by Larry — September 4, 2007 @ 8:47 pm

Yea. His entire platoon. The press. And a process called photography.

What are you a moron? Can't defeat the message so you instantly attack the messenger? To the point where you just question a KNOWN veterans service?

Soltz went in in the early fighting and saw some of the worst.

Your attacking his service is a confession that you are beaten.

  116. Starve-A-Bush_Feed-A-Beaver Says:

Christie used to be in Bush's inner circle.

Alternating with Jeff Gannon for the Chimp's variety.

  117. CaptainVideo Says:

Actually, the guy has a point. If you serve with Cheney you do face the risk of getting shot by him.

  118. troqua Says:

Comment by Lt. Colonel Fred Seamon — September 4, 2007 @ 8:52 pm

That pretty much says it all. Thank you, sir!

  119. Keith Says:

CNN, like larry, is also saying "alleged" after Craig signed a statement saying he was guilty and could not claim innocence.

He was really guilty of a worse offence, but the charges are always reduced if you plead guilty and save the court the time and expense.

  120. katy Says:

Wow. I actually agree with #42 (veritas) on this one.
Comment by GAIVS IVLIVS CAESAR @ 7:51 pm

that's because it was written by one of you namejacking
    trooll buddies...

    THAT WAS NOT VERITAS.

in case this has not been pointed out to you yet...
    ...

  121. Keith Says:

Zooey, it's 9:00 pm---do you know which stall your senator is in?

  122. CaptainVideo Says:

"He should NOT resign from the senate."

I agree. The longer he stays the longer this story stays in the news, the more it exposes the hypocricy of the Republicans, and the worse it makes them look. Hang in there and put up a fight Larry!

  123. Keith Says:

Did anyone ever see W serve in the Alabama National Guard?

    No!

  124. troqua Says:

    Comment by CaptainVideo — September 4, 2007 @ 9:04 pm

I'm watching Abrams with Arianna on MSNBC right now. Apparently Larry is going to make a comeback. Yee-haw!

  125. gummitch Says:

    Soltz…. what a douchebag!

    Comment by GAIVS IVLIVS CAESAR — September 4, 2007 @ 8:55 pm

A real douchebag is someone namejacking one of history's greatest military leaders while hiding behind a keyboard in Virginia. Only a real sh!thead like yourself would continue to write these childish comments about an actual combat veteran while failing to enlist in the military yourself. You constantly screech about killing "islamofacists", you claim to be 24 years of age, and yet you have yet to trot your hideous little troll ass down to the recruiting station.

You are a coward, a liar and a hypocrite, Pee.

  126. johnnyRocketpants Says:

You know Mr. Pee, I’m willing to bet that there isn’t one person on this site (other than your fellow trolls) who gives a shit about anything you say either.

    Comment by bilbogaggins — September 4, 2007 @ 8:07 pm

You know, I have to exclude myself from this statement. Frankly, it's rather fulfilling to read what Mr. Pee and the trolls are paid to type, just to re-enforce the fact that they are wrong-headed, morally and intellectually bankrupt parrots. This, I believe, helps the few fence-sitters realize how insane the Repubs have become. I'm not a fan of excessively feeding the trolls, but prodding them every once in a while usually produces more evidence of their ditto-head culture. I mean, come on, they're defending an idiot like Christie by bashing an Iraq war veteran. That only helps the progressive movement, IMHO.

So party on trolls! You helped oust the Repubs in '06, and you're doing a bang up job for '08!

    Comment by Mr. President — September 4, 2007 @ 9:11 pm

That will be the ONLY service a coward like you would ever have the b*lls to provide. Get off your fat stupid *ss and get to Iraq - Mr. Pees his pants because he's a coward!

  130. Keith Says:

Ever notice that whenever someone gives an argument that is a thousand times more logical, reasonable, and fact-based than anyone of Mr Pee's---------he responds with "nice try".

  131. troqua Says:

Jeez, now the troll is comparing some feel-good bs inner circle badge to - oh, I don't know, the Purple Heart.

  132. Keith Says:

Bin Laden wanted the US to invade and get bogged down in Iraq----depleting our treasury and our military-----just as the Soviet Union did in Afghanistan.

This has given the fundamentalist Islamist a tremendous recruiting tool and training ground. Saddam was successfully supressing them and was a buffer against Iran. This is why GHWB left Saddam in power when it would have been so easy to do a "regime change" in Spring 1991. This is why Reagan and GHWB supported Saddam so strongly.

  133. Mr. President Says:

There is a Presidential Service Badge as well:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Presidential_Service_Badge

  134. kdjid Says:

It's no wonder these guys are chicken hawks. They've actually convinced themselves that their thousand and one excuses for draft dodging does the country some good (ie Romney's sons).

  135. klyde Says:

NPR's "News and Notes" has a daily round table discussion and I swear Christie is on three times a week. He says the stupiest shit while defending cheney/bush but the host keeps having him on. If it weren't so maddening his pathetic stchick would be funny,

  136. Keith Says:

Who said I was an infidel?

  137. Keith Says:

Abrams on MSNBC, talking about W always changing the definition of "success", reminded us that when young, W's cousin said he would change the rules of a game whenever behind--and if that didn't work, take his ball and go home.

  138. Keith Says:

unless your last name is Ellison…hmmmm

    Comment by ronjazz

    I been found out!!!

  139. JSchmoAZ Says:

First off, I am no troll. I comment from time to time on this site under this name. Second, I spent 20 years in the Navy. Third, I am against this war and feel that GWB and Dickie Boy need to be impeached.

Having said that, I hate it when any former military tries to take a holier than thou attitude because they served and someone else didn't. I respect his position on the war, but his tactics are quite childish.

  140. Keith Says:

I think it is wrong for someone to be strongly in favor of a war as long as his ass is not over there. As long as it is other people doing the sacrificing.

  141. David Says:

Typical right wing bullshit. CHICKENHAWK, CHICKENHAWK, CHICKENHAWK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He is a coward for his inaction not meeting his convictions and a complete moron to compare his pompous ass to anyone that has served our country.

  142. joe cantwell Says:

"i sat in the oval office"?

    that's dangerous!

  143. NeoCONS 'R' SCUM Says:

Yeah, Ron, I also have worn the uniform and served my country in other capacity since 1983, but you worked for a crazed, slimy neocon scum, you cross-eyed, cowardly cock-sucker.
    Enlist ,you punk.

  144. Mark Kienan Says:

    I am a gay man.
I have one word to say about this guy...FAG.

  145. pbg Says:

There's something rather amazing about people twisting up a quote when the actual quote is at the top of the column.

  146. The Dogfather Says:

    Comment by Osama Bin Laden (R-Crawford) — September 4, 2007 @ 9:32 pm

Hey, Osama! Where you at, man?

(Just thought I'd give it a try -- you know, alternative strategy to "The Surge (TM)" and all...).

  147. Lenny Says:

Just so ironic that our "president" is quoting Vietnam, when he worked so hard to avoid it (being AWOL and all). Ron Christie is a chump ass. I guess he is Cheney's turd blossom. They were fricking planning this war ten days after the election (eight months prior to the invasion).

BFD! If I sat in that Oval office, I would want to be fumigated and deloused. Christie is just another man that sold his soul. Sucking on the tit of the golden cow. Following their false God.

My neo-con money changing nephews know how I feel. They are a little embarassed these days, though. He-he-he.

  148. blogbob Says:

Let's not forget that Five Deferments Dick shot his friend in the face...then made him publicly apologize for getting in the way of the coward's gun.

Yeah, Ron, serving in the Oval Office is REALLY risky. You should get the Medal of Honor for risking your life while Five Deferments Dick pulls the puppet strings for his Chimp.

All those in favor of putting Mr. Christie on patrol in Baghdad tomorrow with substandard armor in an underarmored HMVEE, say "AYE"

  149. madashell Says:

I saw the show tonight and could NOT believe what I was hearing. I simply wanted to vomit when I heard that comment.

Ron is as robotic as a Stepford Wife. They must be giving him the extra strength Kool Aid intravenously.

  150. ted Says:

Christie is gay (not that there is anything wrong with that). Most of the Bush cabinet is gay. Bush, an excheerleader, is now taken on the role of cheerleader-in-chief. very gay.

  151. DallasNE Says:

When Christie sat in the oval office he must have crapped his pants. How else can you explain the crap coming out of his mouth tonight. Amazing to say the least.

  152. Trojan John Says:

    "A black republican is like a ..."

Someone help me with this joke, I forget the punchline.

  153. Chocolate Jesus Says:

    >Christie is DEFINITELY gay. Another gay,
    > black man on the Republican side.

Whose the other one? Condoleeza.?.. I know its hard to tell, but even having a camel toe that big doesnt qualify you as male...

    # 15 >Soltz–despite his Iraq service which was very
    > negligible–is no patriot,

Shut up Meagan Methead Afrodoppie.... you can dispense with the fake
"mymethranoutbutmymouthkeepsrunning" names...and sudden lack of parenthesis use. Everyone knows who you are, you sore-ridden social herpe. This is your myspace:

    http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=79943506

Your hobbies include: pretending to be a lawyer, pretending to be a soldier, pretending men and animals will come within 50 feet of you (with the help of photoshop), and sending the troops burnt brownies, that unfortunately never make it out of customs because you used those same trays to cook the wal-mart meth you just got done shooting up. Of course, you only send brownies and give your support to soldiers whose service is signifigant, not people like Murtha who have a measly two purple hearts and a puny single medal of honor. And running convoys in Iraq...thats pussy stuff, as obviously we have an enemy who would never stoop to guerilla tactics, like say, attacking supply lines. If I disagree with a soldier i'll rag on him like any other person, but im not going to denigrate and minimize thier service just because they wern't dodging RPG's every single day...

Will someone, at least once a thread that she appears on, call this dumb
c#nt out for who she is and tell her to STFU.

Whiteyfresh, are you up to the job? Notwhiteyfresh how about you?

    Comment by Trojan John — September 5, 2007 @ 3:11 am

The one I heard is "A black voting for a republican is like a chicken voting for Colonel Sanders"

  155. S.D. Says:

And that, people, is exactly what a Piece of S___ who worked in the Oval Office sounds like...

  156. hellinabucket Says:

So he sat in the Oval office. Not close to sitting in a Humvee in Iraq. Only closer to the moron that sent people to sit in Humvees in Iraq.

  157. USMC6002 Says:

    Sickening.

  158. upside00 Says:

    Sickening.
    Comment by USMC6002 — September 5, 2007 @ 10:04 am

I guess when you spend time around an AWOL NG Douchebag and a 5 deferment scumbag and a pasty-faced turd blossom, it does cloud your perspective as to what real service is like .... unless you count having bad knees from all that kneeling has brought on.

BTW, is that worth a Purple Heart? In Vietnam, we found you actually had to get wounded to get one of those.

  159. frank Says:

Ron Christie seems to be some self-loathing closet queen. He's Larry Craig's brain in the body of Sylvester, the disco diva. Ron's been in the Oval Office? On his knees in front of Jeff Gannon, no doubt.

  160. Evil Spaniard Says:

Barney sits (and s#its) often in the Oval Office, also.

  161. Buckles Says:

I swear the neocons would defend Satan before Jesus if it meant having to admit they were wrong or responsible for anything. Actually, they'd just defend Satan... he is, after all, a homey (pun intended for those South Park watchers).

Ron is typical of the party, and quite a token to be used to further the white manly-male-closeted-gay agenda. Perhaps he pals around with Romney's sons, drinking their Coors while discussing the dangers of weaving through the wallets of the D.C. elite.

  162. Jake Says:

Ron Christie - another White House closet case. My gaydar went bing-bing-bing! after this clown opened his trap. Stay out of airport bathrooms Ronny!

  163. little gray fox Says:

Another State of Denial character for the Immaculate Deceptions by rat pack Sammy Davis reincarnated in Washington DC

  164. Jon Koppenhoefer Says:

What angers/chills me is that these chickenhawks really believe that their 'service' in the halls of power is just as important and heroic as risking life and limb in combat.

Mitt Romney's comments about his sons 'serving their country by working on their old man's campaign' is the quintessentially self-serving delusional nonsense these folks indulge in.

I can only hope that nobody is taken by this foolishness.

  165. Ira Einhorn Says:

Probably changed a lightbulb or two also...I guess that makes him an inventor just like Thomas Edison!

Actually, sitting with Cheney with Bush and Cheney makes him a fellow chickenhawk!
