And, your philantropy.com article is a distortion. Conservatives are more likely to regularly attend church. Since churches make their living by reaching in your pocket when you go there, conservatives would always seem to give more to charity. If you leave church donations out of the equation, liberals actually give MORE to charity per capita than conservatives.

The philanthropy.com article is no distortion, it’s an open interview with an author who looked at over 15 different studies of philanthropy, and the facts pointed the same way each time.

Spin it any way you want that will make you feel better. Conservatives are simply more philanthropic than liberals. Case closed.

They have been receiving campaign contributions from Indians for many years before Abramoff came along to rip them off.

the abramoff matter involves taking money to influence a vote.

daschle has a constituency which very clearly includes native american tribes. there is no correlation, no amount of money that would influence him to vote in favor of a bill restricting the expansion of tribal gaming, as it protects his constituents’ interests. had he voted AGAINST the bill, it would be a different matter.

reid has a constituency which very clearly includes the gambling industry. once again, there is no amount of money that would influence him to vote in favor of a bill restricting the expansion of tribal gaming, as it protects his constituents’ interests. and again, had he voted AGAINST the bill, it would be a different matter.

otherwise, politicians in washington take contributions to their political action committees from lobbyists. it’s par for the course. both harry reid and tom daschle have received money relating to native american and gambling interests in the past. there’s no story there.

many of the republicans that took money from abramoff in connection to the tribal gaming bill had no connection whatsoever to gambling or native american interests. their acceptance of the money was, in effect, the taking of a bribe to influence their vote.
