Upon arriving in Iraq yesterday, President Bush told the Australia’s Deputy Prime Minister Mark Vaile, “we’re kicking ass” in Iraq. His comments come in spite of a new Government Accountability Office report that finds the escalation has failed to improve the security situation. (HT:Carpetbagger Report)

September 5th, 2007 at 3:28 pm"When a candidate for public office faces the voters he does not face men of sense; he faces a mob of men whose chief distinguishing mark is the fact that they are quite incapable of weighing ideas, or even of comprehending any save the most elemental — men whose whole thinking is done in terms of emotion, and whose dominant emotion is dread of what they cannot understand. So confronted, the candidate must either bark with the pack or be lost... All the odds are on the man who is, intrinsically, the most devious and mediocre — the man who can most adeptly disperse the notion that his mind is a virtual vacuum. The Presidency tends, year by year, to go to such men. As democracy is perfected, the office represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. We move toward a lofty ideal. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron. "

The S-400 is so sophisticated and powerful that can change the military balance of a region since it is capable of hitting targets that were previously considered untouchable.
The anti missile system has an unbelievable speed of 4.8 Km per second which is faster than a bullet leaving a Kalashnikov machine gun.

September 5th, 2007 at 4:29 pmA little while ago it was Ethiopia routing Islamist terrorists, now the Lebanese military is teaching everyone a lesson that, gee, if you actually fight back against these monsters, you'll win.
Perhaps the Lebanese could send a memo to Bush and Rice with instructions on how a war against terrorists is actually fought, and it does not involved lunch meetings.
Three cheers for the determination, persistence and bravery of the Lebanese and their army.
Lebanese troops withdraw after killing 222 Islamists
BEIRUT (AFP) — Thousands of people cheered Lebanese troops withdrawing Tuesday from a battleground in north Lebanon where the army said it had killed at least 222 extremists during a 15-week standoff.
Defence Minister Elias Murr hailed the battles that culminated Sunday at the Naher al-Bared Palestinian refugee camp as a key victory that prevented the Fatah al-Islam group from spreading throughout Lebanon.
"This victory allowed us to put an end to the worst threat ever faced by the Lebanese," Murr told a press conference. "Fatah al-Islam could have spread throughout the country like cancerous cells."
Army units were still combing the camp on Tuesday, hunting down the last remnants of the Al-Qaeda-inspired militants.
Bravo.

Comment by George — September 5, 2007 @ 4:20 pm
George,
Do not lump the entire US military that is being misused, and abused by this administration with a handful of CRIMINALS in the military. The military is subject to the same problems of society. Although they can root out many of the problems with great training and discipline, they do not excise ALL of the criminals - especially with the lowering of the standards. I served in the area where this happened just prior to the unit that was responsible for this and we did not rape or murder anyones family. We defended ourselves and secured an area. The mission of the troops on the ground is to secure an area and MOST do this while upholding the laws of war in a constant combat zone with no clear enemies. There are a few small number - I am talking fraction of fractions of a percent of those who served there - that have done these horrendous things. How dare you bash the people that vow to give their lives in OUR defense simply because WE THE PEOPLE and OUR government has failed us and them by putting them where they don't belong. It is the military that has been betrayed and they are the ONLY Americans paying the price.
That being said, the military should not be there. We need to redeploy our troops and get them out of harms way and stop exacerbating the problem and fanning the flames of violence.
As for you R,
Don't lump all of us "libtards" or whatever derogatory name you would like to call us together with George just because we both want the war to end. I support the troops. I support giving them rest between deployments. I support reducing their deployments to a more reasonable amount of time. I support giving them the equipment they need WHEN THEY NEED IT, and the health care they need. I support instituting a draft if we insist on continuing this silly occupation to help with the above issues. BUT MOST OF ALL, I support taking them OUT OF THE fire that they are standing in.
If there are good reasons for this occupation, please enlighten me with FACTS - not hypothetical bogey men or prophecies of nuclear holocaust if we pull out. I can play that game too - the world will endure complete and utter nuclear meltdown if we DON'T withdraw. Just because I said it doesn't make it TRUE. What is true, is that the Iraqis want us out! So the "we are giving them freedom/democracy" argument does not work. The US is LESS safe because of the Iraq quagmire - according to all the recent NIEs (from all 16 intelligence agencies) - so the "they are fighting to make us safe and protect our freedoms" argument does not fly. We are "fighting them over there so we don't have to fight them here" argument is worthless too - the same intelligence agencies have said it is "highly unlikely" that they would "follow us home". Not to mention we are creating MORE disgruntled people who now hate the US.
I am sick of the apocalyptic excuses used to perpetuate a never ending conflict without an iota of proof or evidence to support it. All the evidence is to the contrary and the deadlines and measures keep getting adjusted/moved; MEANWHILE hundreds of American Soldiers and thousands of Iraqis are dying EVERY DAY!
Give me an argument that can withstand scrutiny.

September 5th, 2007 at 5:57 pmAccording to The Harring Report, report that came out in about 2005, the true number of US deaths should be 8 times of that reported. We are hearing the true number of those killed on Iraqi soil, died in Iraq, but not the ones that die while en route to the hospital or after arriving at the hospital.
Had Enough,
Yeah, I have heard those and heard others contest them. Even though your numbers may very well be true, I don't see the need to use the contested numbers when the accepted numbers are plenty shocking and support my case. It only gives those trying to discredit my argument more things to use to distract from the main point.
I appreciate the additional information though.

Syria will be spared for the time being because they so nicely torture for us.
The homefront is going well too. A new flag design is in the works. It has no blue any longer, but black has been added to offset the red and white.
September 5th, 2007 at 6:37 pmThe moron in the White House trivializes everything. The manner in which he speaks of the war in Iraq is like one would speak of a football game. He trivializes the war, the soldiers, the civilian deaths -- all because he is playing with lives as if they were tokens on a game board.
September 5th, 2007 at 6:37 pmBTW, the total of dead soldiers in Iraq is 3750.
Eight were just announced today. We don't hear the daily toll any more - the media has apparently decided that it is too depressing and repetitive to always count the dead - as they take another bow to the boy king.
Yeah, you tell em Bush, nearly a million dead civilians is really kicking some ass all right, you stinking war criminal.
September 5th, 2007 at 6:47 pmah the madness of king george - persistently beating the same drum with the same old tired cliche's and delusions - is he trying to bash everyone into submission with his inane beliefs? - perhaps this is one of his torture techniques - if you spin the same old rhetoric repeatedly (with,of course, the help of fellow members of your own party) and for long enough and often enough the people will become mentally exhausted, helpless and just give up because at this time,HE is the only option a nation has as a leader....sad
