DHS ends controversial data-mining project.

The Department of Homeland Security “has given up on one of its broadest anti-terrorism data-mining tools after investigators found it was tested with information about real people without the required privacy safeguards.”

Six nuclear warheads on cruise missiles were mistakenly carried on a flight from North Dakota to Louisiana last week, prompting a major investigation, military officials have confirmed.

The plane took the cruise missiles from Minot Air Force Base to Barksdale Air Force Base for decommissioning Thursday, the Air Force said.

“This is a major gaffe, and it’s going to cause some heads to roll down the line,” said Don Shepperd, a retired Air Force major general and military analyst for CNN.

The warheads should have been removed from the missiles before they were attached to the B-52 bomber, according to military officials.

The crew was unaware that the plane was carrying nuclear weapons, the officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the extraordinary sensitivity and security surrounding the case.

Time to get rid of these monstrous weapons

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Six nuclear warheads on cruise missiles were mistakenly carried on a flight from North Dakota to Louisiana last week, prompting a major investigation, military officials have confirmed.

Shepperd said the U.S. had agreed in a Cold War-era treaty not to fly nuclear weapons. “It appears that what happened was this treaty agreement was violated,” he said.

    WHAT WHAT WHAT ????????????????

  6. Zimzone says:

If DHS would spend it’s money securing our ports, borders & transportation hubs they wouldn’t have to be spying on Americans.

Chertoff waddled around SE MN a couple of weeks back, spouted a bunch of BS & then informed people they would qualify for low interest loans. He was obviously uncomfortable being around ‘real people’.

DHS had billions budgeted & what are they doing? Fearmongering & talking about ‘gut feelings’.

Less than 1% of consumer goods imported from China are inspected.
    Are you OK with that?

When America’s icon, Barbie Doll, can give your child lead poisoning, you should be concerned.

Outsourcing labor to China has made Corporate America even richer. They will continue poisoning us as long as the profit line holds.

Bush is America’s Profit. A false God, to say the least.

  7. Toss these losers says:

Look at the bright side, it wasn’t Chertoff in charge of something like a war game involving nuke equipped B-52s. He could have been watching over a training flight from, say, North Dakota to Louisiana and then mistakenly wiped Missouri off the map with a practice drop that turned out to be live………

    Oops, my bad!

I bet the progressive ideologues here are rejoicing in their uninformed misunderstanding of this data-mining project from the DHS. These progs are rejoicing because they presumptuously put civil liberties and privacy above and beyond the most important priority in the States today (and, no, leftards, it’s not healthcare): securing the homeland from more terror attacks. However, before you progressives rejoice by burning yet another Bush effigy, you should take care to be circumspect–something you NEVER are–by clicking on the link and reading the ASSociated Press link about this article. In it, a higher-up in the DHS clearly is quoted as saying that while this particular mining project is finished, the DHS will use other ones with similar functionality that are also more cost-effective. Translation: all you progressives will continue to suffer MORE nightmares from the federal govt’s rightful policy of mining through data to connect potential terrorists.

  11. VerbalKint says:

#8 What is your point, Jake? This isn’t about spying on the enemy, unless you want to declare all U.S. citizens the enemy. This is about indiscriminate spying on Americans without probable cause and without court supervision. What part of that don’t you get?

  13. AnacherForester says:

Either the DHS finally became concerned that they would soon be held accountable for this program or they’ve come up with something far worse. Of this I am sure, the vast majority of the $45 million spent on ADVISE went into the mitts of Republican campaign contributors.

You’re pathetic and a traitor to this country if you are inferring the citizens of this nation – whom the DHS has been spying on and testing their data – are the enemy. Is that what you are saying?

  19. legalwarrior says:

I suspect that the suspension of this program has more to do with Albert Gonzalez’ termination and Acting Attorney General Clement’s taking over. Several of the programs that DHS has been implementing do not pass basic privacy protections that even the Bush Justice Department believe apply.

With Gonzo on his way out it means that Justice Dep’t is not likely to reauthorize certain spying programs such as the one that Gonzo and Card tried to get John Ashcroft to reauthorize while in the hospital. Does anyone doubt that when Gonzalez became Attorney General that he then approved the program(s) that Ashcroft refused to authorize?

The two election officials that went to jail in Ohio throw doubt on your election theory. As for ‘terrorists are only criminals’, another GOP lie of omission, no terrorists are also ‘terrorists’, a FORM of criminals. You’re a real piece of trash, Jake D. And your stance is too WIDE.

For the record, you’re ‘retarded’, you spelled it wrong. Jake thinks the ‘declaration of war’ that only congress can formally declare is just ‘magic words’, he is here to undermine our constitution and our way of life, the very definition of a terrorist. Jake D. is a TERRORIST!

If you won’t even concede Bush was elected, he certainly hasn’t held the Office or acted as President, has he? The word “serve” is not found anywhere in the 22nd Amendment. For the record, calling someone “retarded” is a personal attack.

No. One idiot troll is all most mortals should have to deal with. You showed up at TP one day and you won’t leave. Your posts are juvenile and your playground retorts are childish and foolish. If you are truly trying to represent the republican side, you are not doing them any favors. Anybody still trying to decide which side of the fence they will stand should read your posts. Based on your words, they would agree the right side needs medical attention very quickly. Even if your words had substance and import, I don’t mind an opposing point of view. You simply show off your substandard application of the rights talking points. You don’t even do a good job at reciting other peoples words. Geez, who would have thought home schooling would have such a devstating impact on your ability to reason. Makes me thankful I went to public school.

This cabal in the admin. will be ousted and the Rethug party is DEAD. It will take awhile to clean up the sickening mess these stupid Neocon morons have created but we will succeed. Our Constitution will not be brought down by a few warmongering, money grubbing criminals who are supported by the most ignorant portion of our population.
Rethugs are all just a bunch of closet homosexuals who think our tax dollars belongs in their and their pal’s hands.
    WRONG AGAIN.
They have created the LARGEST govt. of any admin, spent more money than any admin. ( with nothing to show for it) and lead our troops into a war they had NO CLUE how to win because that wasn’t their intent. The intent was to wipe out Iraq and take their national treasure.
True criminals one and all. Their supporters are nothing more than Nazi locksteppers.

You forgot the little heh heh snicker. For the record, Jake, all of the terrorists caught in places like England were caught using standard criminal investigation techniques. Funny how that works.

  47. JakeIsATerrorist says:

For the record, if the person IS retarded, it’s a description, not an attack.

For the record many presidents that have served were not elected, Truman for instance. I made poor Jake look like a FOOL, and now the poor old f*rt can’t cope! Widen your stance Jake D!ck, you’ll feel better!

For the record “hold the office” is a “synonym” for “serve in the office” for anyone who isn’t as retarded as Jake the dumbest lawyer to hold the california bar!

  49. Jake D. says:

Ad hominem attacks are never appropriate in proper debate — even if it’s an accurate description — even retarded people can be right twice a day.

  50. gabriel says:

The fact is the Republican agenda is DEAD. It only survives in the gullible, easily-manipulated few, and the old-timers who can’t bring themselves to leave the only thing they know.

Bush has a raised an enter GENERATION that hates his party, its agenda, and everything it claims to stand for.

Illegal, unamerican spying programs like this are all the republicons have to maintain control. With each attempt at holding on though, they only loose more grip. They’ve already clearly lost their grip on reality. Just look at how they have paid hacks writing posts in defense of them. In reality these hacks only illustrate how dangerous and unamerican these types of things are.

The retard is admitting he was right, while attacking the person that bested him! Accuracy is always appropriate Jake D., what’s inappropriate is the disingenuous fashion you use to ‘debate’, as it isn’t debate it’s deceptive banter. We’re ALL sure many a judge lectured you on this bad habit, yet here you are, a retarded old f*rt that never learned anything!

Jake D. was wrong YET AGAIN, and while you’re at it, please go turn yourself in for the Terrorism activities of your CHURCH like a good little terrorist. Retard.

  54. Jake D. says:
