Tonight, President Clinton will appear on CNN’s Larry King Live. From his interview:
I don’t see any alternative, consistent with responsibilities for the national security, to a substantial withdrawal of troops this year. Because the military’s so overstretched. If we had a big national security emergency now, we’d be virtually compelled to meet it with Naval and Air Force forces because the Army, the Marine Corps, the National Guards and Reserves are all overstretched, all deeply stressed. … We’ll have to have a substantial drawdown of troops this year.
Watch it:
Clinton added a drawdown in Iraq would help focus efforts to defeat al Qaeda and Taliban forces in Afghanistan.
Good thing he ain’t President anymore.

I do not recommend that you hold your breath waiting for this admission. You might suffocate.
Actually, that’s not true. Assuming you did have the muscular control to hold your breath for more than about seven minutes. you’d pass out long before you suffocate and then would begin breathing involuntarily immediately afterwards. Unless, of course, you fell and hit your head on something that knocked out your medullar functions. Which would still not be a pleasant outcome.
September 5th, 2007 at 5:00 pmI watched the Today Show interview — Bill Clinton admitted that Naval forces are already trained in infantry tactics — about time those prissy boat people rolled up their sleeves on this one.
September 5th, 2007 at 5:01 pmAh, a real president on my TV for a change. I’m so disgusted with the Deserter In Chief’s puerile lies and transparent phoniness, not to mention his amazing lack of vocabulary and grammatical construction, that I can’t bear to watch him. When Clinton is on, it’s what the leader of the Free World should look and sound like, not some fake monkey-cowboy from Crawford. And I didn’t even like Clinton that much, and I, too, am an Independent! It’s just that the comparisons are so stark: Clinton=presidential, competent, intelligent, respected worldwide; Bush=inconsequential, bumbling, moronic, hated wherever he goes.
September 5th, 2007 at 5:03 pmas for clinton’s craig statement this morning –
September 5th, 2007 at 5:03 pmhe said it was up to the REPUBLICAN PARTY to decide whether
to keep him in office…
…
On the day that Clinton was 45 minutes late in his attempt to kill bin Laden with cruise missles, he had been forced to spend the entire morning in deposition answering questions about oral sex. Republicans called his attempt to kill bin Laden “wagging the dog.”
As good as Clinton’s record was on fighting terrorism, imagine what he could have done with a Democratic congress.
September 5th, 2007 at 5:04 pmI was inaccurate above re: Kosovo — I was referencing Operation Allied Force, the 78-day-long NATO air bombing campaign over Yugoslavia that began right before Clinton was acquitted in his Senate impeachment trial. September 5th, 2007 at 5:05 pmtraining the navy recruits to do the army’s jobs…
More like training sailors to have greater capabilities for situations they might find themselves in. For the goofs who dont have a clue about the military or the Navy (Katy), sailors are instructed in certain tactical maneuvers already.
Every ship without Marines has a duty security detachment that rotates with the duty shift, men who are trained with light weapons and have some small-unit tac capability.
It only makes sense to have all of our military services cross-trained in certain critical areas, considering the type of enemy we now face.

Right, George Bush and Dick Cheney hadn’t been in office for 8 months. Clinton didn’t leave a plan for dealing with OBL that Bush-Cheney ignored like two jealous schoolkids. Condiliar Rice never made the supremely idiotic statement “nobody imagined they would use planes”. That was all Clinton’s doing. Like I said before, you’re thousands of years behind in human development, especially your brain. What a weak, foolish coward’s way to try to pass of reponsibility. Face it, republicans have always sucked at national Defense, and they proved it to the whole world on 9/11. Facts are facts, shakey. George Bush was president, and fell down on the job, after which he flew away as fast as he could, and hid out for three days, while managing to give the order to let the Bin Laden family escape without any FBI questioning. That’s the history, and it’s yours to suck on.

This is the same moron that allowed countless terrorist attacks against our nation and our interest abroad.

And don’t forget that Clinton gave the finger to the UN when the UN refused to take action in Kosovo and Clinton went against international law set by the UN and bombed the living daylights out of Serbia and bombed a Chinese embassy. Obviously you’re not a believer in Howard Gardner’s theory of Multiple Intelligences. See, there are many different ways in which humans can be intelligent. IQ tests merely measure certain aspects of intelligence – primarily logical-mathematical and verbal-linguistic.
While Bill Clinton may be intelligent in the logical and linguistic senses, this does not mean that George Bush is not intelligent in other areas.
Bodily-kinesthetic, for example: Bush is an avid biker. The man’s pedal skills put Clinton’s jogging to shame.
Or naturalistic intelligence – why do you think he spends so much time clearing brush on his Crawford ranch? The man just knows the land!
And what about spatial? Bush has a well-documented understanding of object permanence. He realizes that, if he drops a spoon from his highchair, it does NOT cease to exist.
See? Who’s intelligent NOW, huh???

The WTC was attacked in Clintons era, but he caught the perpetrators, you can try all you want but the second attack occured under the Bush Admins.
If I use your faulty logic frank the first WTC attack was the previous presidents fault, Bush Sr.
Besides that, the Republican congress did all it could to gut the terrorist lewgislation under Clinton, and accused him of waging the dog.

Comment by Buck Fush — September 5, 2007 @ 5:16 pm
See? Who’s intelligent NOW, huh???

yes, but you don’t know that. If Bush would for once act like an american patriot instead of a fake cowboy, and own up to and try to correct his mistakes, his numbers wouldn’t be lower than those of siding salesmen. He would gain some respect, and the venom coming from the left AND the right would be substantially less. He brought this on himself, with his fealty to Rove, the Goebbells of the Bush regime, and he deserves all the scorn heaped on him. Personal responsibility, you know. Bush is a miserable little prick, and the worst president in US history. Only he can change those facts, and he won’t.
September 5th, 2007 at 5:37 pmYour right. It wouldn’t work out that way. The reason is because Bush has far more serious matters to apologize for.

September 5th, 2007 at 5:39 pmPeople forget that before 9/11 Bush had the lowest approval rating ever within the first year of his presidency the only thing that salvaged that was the national support of the government after 9/11. Now his approval ratings are back below Nixonian levels. Bush has never had the full support of the people. The people only supported the country and the government after 9/11 not Bush himself. Bush somehow sees that support as a reflection and him and his “righteous agenda.”

September 5th, 2007 at 5:46 pmSenior officials from the Clinton Administration delivered urgent post-election intelligence briefings regarding Al Qaeda’s activities in December, 2000 and and again in January, 2001 to Condoleezza Rice, who became Mr. Bush’s national security adviser; to Stephen Hadley, who was Ms. Rice’s deputy; and to Philip D. Zelikow, a member of the Bush transition team, among others.
And Richard Clarke confirmed that Clinton gave warnings to the Bush Administration, which he described in his book “Against All Enemies : Inside the White House’s War on Terror–What Really Happened”. From Richard Clarke’s book:
“…the warning about the Qaeda threat could not have been made more bluntly to the incoming Bush officials in intelligence briefings that he led. At the time of the briefings, there was extensive evidence tying Al Qaeda to the bombing in Yemen two months earlier of an American warship, the Cole, in which 17 sailors were killed. It was very explicit.”
Mr. Clarke said of the warning given to the Bush administration officials. “Rice was briefed, and Hadley was briefed, and Zelikow sat in.”
The White House has never disputed nor denied that it received the information from the departing Clinton Administration. In fact, Bush himself said that he listened to Clinton and made terrorism a top priority and followed through on Clinton’s warnings.
The truth, however, is that Bush sat on the information and did nothing. Bush came into office after the Supreme Court gave him the Presidency when he put his transition team into place in early December, 2000. He had more than nine months to set up his organization to root out terrorism and he did virtually nothing. He went on vacation when the August 6th PDF warned of Bin Laden’s determination to attack in the United States. He did nothing after French intelligence warned the FBI about Moussaoui and FBI Agent Coleen Rowley tried to get the attention of FBI officials up the chain of command. If they had been able to discover Moussaoui, they might have prevented 9/11 from happening at all. Apparently, Bush didn’t care enough about terrorism to make its detection a top priority and to instruct all the intelligence services about the need to pay attention to the types of warnings regarding Moussaoui.

Umm George Bush supported that when he was a Texas Governor as well, and it was passed by a Republican Led COngress.
And who passed CAFTA?
Depleted rounds are being used in Iraq as well.
September 5th, 2007 at 5:53 pmThis is rediculous. A previous President, who has experience in these matters – regardless of what you think of him personally, brings up a very valid and OBVIOUS point. Instead of addressing his concerns, most of this thread is spent attacking him for whatever stupid problems they have with him personally. Are his points valid or not?
While people supporting this quagmire sit comfortably in their homes without so much as sacrificing a penny to pay for this debacle, others are doing their 2nd, 3rd, and some are on 4th or 5th tours of duty. Instead of supporting a draft and higher taxes to man our military and pay for this quagmire, that they support and feel is ESSENTIAL to our survival, they prefer that a select few who are willing to give their lives for this nation are the only ones to sacrifice. Then they condemn anyone who provides evidence or proof that our military is being misused and abused. Their trust in those making the decisions has been betrayed.
I have said some of the following in another thread, but I think it applies here too:
If there are good reasons for this occupation, please enlighten me with FACTS – not hypothetical bogey men or prophecies of nuclear holocaust if we pull out. I can play that game too – the world will endure complete and utter nuclear meltdown if we DON’T withdraw. Just because I said it doesn’t make it TRUE. What is true, is that the Iraqis want us out! So the we are giving them freedom/democracy argument does not work. The US is LESS safe because of the Iraq quagmire – according to all the recent NIEs (from all 16 intelligence agencies) – so the they are fighting to make us safe and protect our freedoms argument does not fly. We are fighting them over there so we don’t have to fight them here argument is worthless too – the same intelligence agencies have said it is highly unlikely that they would follow us home. Not to mention we are creating MORE disgruntled people who now hate the US. In addition, our military is being stretched to the breaking point and the same people keeping them in fire are the same people who voted against giving them adequate rest.
I am sick of the apocalyptic excuses used to perpetuate a never ending conflict without an iota of proof or evidence to support it. All the evidence is to the contrary and the deadlines and measures keep getting adjusted/moved; MEANWHILE hundreds of American Soldiers and thousands of Iraqis are dying EVERY DAY!
Give me an argument that can withstand scrutiny.

Interesting comment as we wouldn’t have 4000 plus dead soldiers and thousands of injured soldiers. The US economy would be great and millions of Americans wouldn’t be losing their homes. The World Leaders would still respect the US and torture would be illegal. So much more would be for the better if Bill Clinton was still President. But I guess some Americans like yourself don’t see today’s crimes and chaos as a problem. If Bush has it his way we will stay in Iraq forever and let the deaths of our soldiers continue.

In regards to Buckley’s article, while it is heartening that Democrats and some Republicans opposed CAFTA, the fact remains that Clinton was instrumental in passing NAFTA. (see link: http://www.mediamouse.org/features/060107bill_.php) The larger question remains: why are the “choices†offered by the two political parties so often differences of flavor, rather than substantive? As far as apples go, I prefer Galas, although Braeburns would be acceptable.
September 5th, 2007 at 6:59 pmI am not a fake. And I was called a “gridder†back when I played high school basketball in Indiana in the 1930s.

Never heard of a basketball player being called a ‘gridder”… those are ususally football players. Playing highschool basketball in the 30’s? If you graduated in 1940 at 18, that’d make you 85 today. Sumpin’ not right w/ this.

What the hell is that supposed to mean? You see NO differences in the substantive policies of John Edwards and those of, say, Fred Thompson???!!!
I guess you need to read a little or something. These guys are about as far apart as candidates can get on the issues.
The most conservative candidate, possibly Hillary Clinton, favors policies far more progressive than the most moderate republican (Rudy?)
Get serious. It’s simply lazy thinking to keep pretending that there are no differences.
September 5th, 2007 at 7:29 pmWhat would Clinton do to make the economy better?
September 5th, 2007 at 7:38 pmHey Maldriftt, have you ever tried the Czech Budweiser, I mean the real thing and not the crap they peddle here? Its good stuff though I dont think its available in the states.
Comment by Pillboxian Gravelite — September 5, 2007 @ 5:51 pm
It’s sold in the US as Czechvar because they can’t call it Budvar. I think it’s now only sold in 12 oz green bottles, however, which means it can get skunked, like the PU often is.
September 5th, 2007 at 7:46 pmI don’t care what the “fat boy” says. Saw him in person. Ain’t handsome, and I was supporting him (1992), and didn’t sense charisma. Guess he forgot to turn it on, as cameras had turned to Hillary. My husband got his autograph. So I saw him up close, and he acted very indifferent and cold.
September 5th, 2007 at 7:48 pmWhile he pals around with the HAVE HAVE MOREs, as he now is, and obviously always wanted to be, I struggle as a social worker on peanuts to help out the poor elderly and mentally ill, that neither he nor his wife have hardly mentioned, let alone have visited. So let him go on OPRAh and preach about “giving.” That’s right Bill, tell you’re golfing and fishing buddies to give some more, because we sure can use it. Including my husband on disability for mental illness, …the pittance that it is — and always being monitored to see if and when they could cut him off.

He would also have been drafted in WWII and likely not served in Korea at all. Oops. I think Jake’s story just blew a leak.
We’ve also never heard Jake claim to have actually served in combat during the Korean War. If, in fact, he had a law degree, we can pretty well guarantee he was either serving with JAG, but most likely was banging a typewriter for the quartermaster back in Ft. Dix.
September 5th, 2007 at 7:51 pmThe person who said that Clinton was a moderate REPUBLICAN is correct., just like Hillary., although I will vote for her if I must. Get over it people.,
September 5th, 2007 at 7:57 pmnone of them care about us nobodies., They just use us go get where they want to go and then discard us., for the most part. I don’t see him living in Jersey City, and there are nice places here. No, his neighbor is the CEO of General Electric, for Pete’s Sake. Get the picture. Hillary comes from “Leave it to Beaver”, not East New York, Brooklyn, like I did as a child, with a single mom. Her mom did stay home and bake cookies. My mom worked her butt off and tried to keep us (brother and I and her) from being evicted for not paying rent, or wearing coats to bed because of no heat., or the lights turned off. that’s the real world., for poor, no matter what color. No phone until I was 17. Big difference in understanding the “average” Joe.
Good thing he ain’t President anymore.

Good one, Master Pee! Swoop right in after the action has died down and drop a stinky little troll turd, then sneak away and pretend that you “had an impact” why don’t you?
September 5th, 2007 at 8:20 pmThe prospect of having another Clinton in the White House for another 8 years is unacceptable, and quite frankly I find it sickening. Not that Bill was not a far better President then either of the Bush’s — it is that when family dynasties alternate in having power, it inevitably becomes that which bears little resemblance to a democracy. Both families represent the interrests of corporations that are intent on maintaining their wealth, power, and control over the masses.
The lesser of two evils is still evil. We deserve better than this.
Peace!

September 6th, 2007 at 7:35 am“For the record, it’s been 2 years since Katrina hit and Bush has yet to admit he depleted the National Guard and Reserves to fight his conflict and that left insufficient resources for them to conduct their primary mission.
Comment by hellinabucket — September 5, 2007 @ 4:55 pm”
And why should he admit it if it simply is not true? And that’s PRESIDENT Bush to you.
Saving the people from Hurricanes is not a constitutionally mandated Presidential duty. Protecting the U.S. from foreign enemies is.
Hurricane Katrina rebuilding= Not the President’s job.
Commander-in-Chief of the Military= The Presiden’t job.
You folks would seem to understand that, listening to how much you whine about the President supposedly violating the Constitution.
In a nutshell, you advocate violating the constitution as long as it suits YOUR purposes as a political talking point, nothing more.
If you care that much about the aftermath of Katrina, why aren’t you off your butts helping in the cleanup?
Oh, and for folks who havn’t figured it out yet: Bill Clinton isn’t President anymore. But if Hillary wins next year, which she might, you all will deserve what you get.
September 6th, 2007 at 9:53 amBigfoot – At least with Clinton we had an economy, we had a treasury with money and we had International credibility. With Bush we are the laughing stock of the world, we are in debt to another country, we have over 27,000 wounded military and 3735 dead. With Clinton he actually believed the people had rights. Was he morally stupid? Yes. But was he a good President HELL YES !
Name just one thing Bush has done for the benefit of the American people. Just one. Bush needs to go live in the country he loves, Iraq. Take his mother especially who “just couldn’t bear to have her beautiful eyes see the body bags of dead Americans.” That whole family is despicable.
September 6th, 2007 at 11:24 amOh and Bigfoot – Bush said, “the Constitution is only a piece of paper.” So, check your loyalties with some research before giving them to the undeserved.

Good Presidents always have at least 800,000 Rwandan genocides on their resumes.
September 6th, 2007 at 1:43 pmBigfoot,
You definately know how to use smoke and mirrors well. But in response, the National Guard is not supposed to get deployed internationally. They are supposed to stay here and help with domestic threats and national disasters. Since we have been deploying them in record numbers, there is no one left to help respond to our national emergencies.
That is the point – not that Bush himself should be there reconstructing New Orleans, but that he took the resources that are designed for this type of job and moved them to a location where whey would be unable to do their job. Leaving ALOT fewer resources to do the job.
As many people point out, there is plenty of blame to go around, but the issue here is our military at its breaking point – not Clinton’s record – Not who should rebuild after Katrina – but that we are running our military on empty for this Occupation and the President (and us as a nation) have been unwilling to sacrifice by instituting a draft and increasing taxes to pay for this.
September 6th, 2007 at 1:44 pmSexual Terrorist in the White House
Why We’re Touring the Clinton Library
By Juanita Broaddrick and Kathleen Willey
Like far too many women in this country, all three of us have experienced the crime of sexual assault and the violation of sexual harassment by men in powerful positions. Each of us has battled with the shame, humiliation, and fear of coming forward to report the assault. Each of us has worried about how this sexual harassment and assault will affect our careers. Two of us, however, suffered this kind of experience at the hands of a United States president…
September 6th, 2007 at 6:10 pmThey’re bringing in the big guns. Bill Clinton has been let loose.
Have you noticed all the terrorist warnings this last day?
- Bin Laden plays 9/11 video?
- Iraq withdrawals “off the table”: Republicans
- U.S. sees terrorist attack threat in Nigeria
Bush is playing the fear game again. Stay in Iraq for another Friedman. The surge is working.
If anybody can counteract the Republicans dastardly plan, Bill can. I just hope the rest of the U.S. (World) sees it.

Ordering the fighting of terrorists overseas.
Tax cuts.
No Child left Behind.
Medicare prescription drug program.
Need more? I got more…..
