here's one... seattle pi again:

Are plastic bottles dangerous?
By LISA STIFFLER . P-I REPORTER

The answer to whether a chemical that leaches out of plastic baby and sports bottles and from the lining of tin cans is a serious threat to human health remains murky.

Just a week after a group of 38 scientists concluded in a peer-reviewed journal that the chemical, called bisphenol A, poses a significant risk, a government-appointed panel Wednesday disagreed.
[...]

reeeeeeally... imagine that...

For the record, I will admit that Bush didn’t do anything to fight terrorists for the first nine months he was in office. Clinton was in office for 96 months.

Comment by Jake D. — September 5, 2007 @ 11:59 am

I'll be glad to educate you on what exactly Clinton did regarding terrorism. It may take a little time, but feel free to check back here over the next few days. You could find this info easily on the Google, if you so desired, but it would blow a hole in your "Clinton did nothing" B.S.

For starters, the Republican ass-clowns in Congress during Clinton's term didn't exactly take terrorism seriously. Excerpt from CNN.com's archives, posted July 30, 1996, below. Oh, you'll notice the part about Clinton wanting to expand wiretapping, and how Hatch rebuffed him. At least Clinton sought the approval of Congress, instead of what Bush did, which was to tell 8 members what his intentions were and then swear them to secrecy and then proceed with breaking the law. No...Hatch and other Repubs didn't want to expand wiretapping, but when Bush does it illegally, he gets a free pass.

Republican leaders earlier met with White House Chief of Staff Leon Panetta for about an hour in response to the president's call for "the very best ideas" for fighting terrorism.

Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, emerged from the meeting and said, "These are very controversial provisions that the White House wants. Some they're not going to get."

Hatch called Clinton's proposed study of taggants -- chemical markers in explosives that could help track terrorists -- "a phony issue."

"If they want to, they can study the thing" already, Hatch asserted. He also said he had some problems with the president's proposals to expand wiretapping.

Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle, D-South Dakota, said it is a mistake if Congress leaves town without addressing anti-terrorism legislation. Daschle is expected to hold a special meeting on the matter Wednesday with Congressional leaders.

Jake D.: "More top officials resigned during Clinton’s Administration."

That's just not true.

Jake D.: "For the record, I will admit that Bush didn’t do anything to fight terrorists for the first nine months he was in office. Clinton was in office for 96 months."

Barton Gellman in the Washington Post put it best, "By any measure available, Bill Clinton left office having given greater priority to terrorism than any president before him" and was the "first administration to undertake a systematic anti-terrorist effort".

Jake D.: "I have no King but Jesus!!!"

That's not surprising.

Katy, also this: don't have a link on it (will have to investigate when I have more time), but my Mom was telling me a few weeks ago that she heard that if bottled water is left in places where it can get very hot (say, in a car on a hot summer day) and the temperature of the bottles gets too hot, it can somehow cause cancer-causing chemicals to leach from the bottles into the water. If true, makes you also wonder about the plastic containers from companies such as Glad and Ziplock that are microwave "safe." If heat can cause the problems with water in plastic containers, what does that say about the other types of plastic containers?

And before Jake or any of the other idiot trolls bring up "Clinton didn't do anything to fight terrorism either", may I remind you that Condi Rice herself said that the Bush administration did at least as much as the Clinton administration did to fight terrorists.

Which means if Clinton didn't do anything, then neither did Bush.

how long ago did this story first come out???

Popcorn supplier to drop toxic chemical
Consumer's lung disease may be linked to flavoring

By ANDREW SCHNEIDER
P-I SENIOR CORRESPONDENT

ConAgra, the world's largest supplier of the 3 billion bags of microwave popcorn sold each year, said Tuesday that it will eliminate the use of a controversial chemical butter flavoring linked to severe lung disease in workers from its Act II and Orville Redenbacher products.
[...]

and THIS information, at the end of the story:

HOW DIACETYL HARMS PEOPLE

Worker hazards: In manufacturing plants, it's been linked to bronchiolitis obliterans -- irreversible obstructive lung diseases -- for which lung transplants are often the only way to survive. Lawsuits against diacetyl manufacturers by hundreds of workers in popcorn, flavoring and other food plants claiming injury from breathing diacetyl have led to jury awards and settlements of more than $20 million.

Consumer hazards: The Food and Drug Administration and the Consumer Product Safety Commission have declined to study the effect on consumers. The Environmental Protection Agency has looked at the vapors from heated diacetyl as an air pollutant but has not released the results to the public or to public health professionals.

We need to stop establishing ourselves as the POLICE of the world.

Comment by James Saville Row — September 5, 2007 @ 10:15 am

Which, I may remind viewers, is exactly what George Bush the candidate said in 2000. And spare me the "9/11 changed everything" shit. Terrorist acts against America were happening worldwide long before Bush came on the scene, including several attacks on American soil by foreign terrorists and one home-grown terrorist, and an attack on a U.S. warship. Bush didn't give a damn about fighting terrorists before he became president, and he didn't give a damn about fighting them after he became president (see PDB 8/6/2000; see Cheney advised to form terrorism task force that never met; see Bush administration not having a cabinet level meeting addressing terrorism until several days prior to 9/11; see Bush sitting for 7 minutes in a classroom with a dumb look on his face as America was being attacked).

Progressives should be outraged! Undoubtedly the US had a hand in abridging the Human Rights of the latest batch of arrested terror suspects. Arrests in Denmark and Germany......Hmmmm.....I suspect Dick Cheney and his evil henchmen, George W. Bush and Alberto Gonzalez had something to do with this violation of International Peace and Justice. Have you called Inspector Clouseau?

There were plenty of Clinton haters, too. So shut up, as your post makes no contribution to anything.

Sharon - I admire your misguided sincerity. If you want to promote peace in the world maybe you and Cindy Sheehan could take the "mantle of peace" to our enemies. I'm certain they will be moved by your message!!

Then another student, William Sleastor, 16, asked Mr. McCain what he planned to do about “L.G.B.T. rights.” When Mr. McCain looked puzzled, the student explained that the initials stand for “lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender.”

“I had not heard that phrase before,” Mr. McCain said.
