39 percent:

39 percent:

Number of Americans who believe the White House report on Iraq will honestly reflect Gen. David Petraeus’s “true assessment of the situation in Iraq,” according to a new Rasmussen poll.

107 Responses to “39 percent:”

  1. Jackie says:

    General Petraeus will do as he told by the White House as they gave him his job and can take it away. Petraeus doesn’t care how many soldiers get killed he is following Cheney’s orders. Yesterday 8 soldiers died yet General Petraeus says things are going well. Congress should ask lying General Petraeus why he gave the enemy 190,000 weapons, vest and bullets.

  2. Polly Mathe says:

    The additional 11% on top of the 28% hard core Dick and George bootlickers represents those who believe Petraus to be independent of the Tarnished House.

  3. Chris L says:

    It doesn’t really matter how honest or even how accurate the report is. If the report says things are going bad, the conservatives will say we need more time and more troops to make it work. If the report says everything is running well, the conservatives will say we need more time and more troops to continue this mission. Either way, more time, more troops.

  4. Damian says:

    The additional 10 to 11% uncritically buy the bs that the WH spews about Petraeus being “nonpolitical”. What an f’n joke!

  5. Tom says:

  6. BetrayusishowtraitorsspellPetraeusname says:

    Toilet Paper hate-site is again out to mislead its own base of rabid, foaming-at-the-mouth progtards with this half-truth representation of the true findings of the Rasmussen poll. The whole truth that Toilet Paper buried in its concealing reference is the fact that while 39% do believe Petraeus’ report will reflect the truth, only 35% refuse to believe it. This margin is well outside the margin of error. Let me spell that out for progtarded idiots who went to public school. This means a definitive majority of Americans, not just Republicans, trust in the independence and truth behind the military’s report; this means that you anarchic progressives have failed at smearing the WH, Bush’s new strategy and the impartiality of Petraeus’ report. 35% of non-believers (conspiracy fruits) coincides with the number of registered Demoncrats in the US. This is an impressive feat of PR by Bush, especially since all the media’s against him.

  7. Prabhata says:

    And the 39 percent who believe the report to be honest is probably 95 percent Republican. They are the ones who believe in Bush, creationism, and the virgin birth mythology.

  19. Ret. Col. Jack Ripper says:

    Bush supporter: “Ah, its poll numbers you want.”

    You don’t really want to get into the polls on this, bushboy. The latest CBS Poll says 69% disapprove of the way Bush is handling the war and the latest CNN says 64% describe themselves as “against the war in Iraq.”

    All this latest number shows is that if you lie in our faces over and over, eventually, we won’t even believe anything your subordinates say either.

  20. Krazny says:

    How does 39% become a definitive majority of Americans. At best this means that 39% will trust, 35% don’t that comes to 74%. The remaining 26% aren’t sure. That means 61% either are unsure or don’t trust the report. I could be wrong, but last time I checked 61% of something was more then 39%.

  21. Mike says:

    These polls are only a snapshot. They can change at any moment.

    Schools out already, I see. Isnt there one lib here who doesnt regress?

    You do understand that polls are subject to so many variables and taken so often and changing literally overnight that trying to craft ANYTHING by them is not only foolish but also naive?

    I know you might have trouble with this but the polls are inconsistent from day to day. But go ahead and follow them, Ive made my point.

  24. Ichthus says:

    At the bootm of the Rasmussen Reports page the telephone survey also found that 27% of American voters believe the troop surge is working and 25% say it is too early to tell. Forty-three percent (43%) believe the troop surge has failed.

    43% say it failed, 25% not sure. Okay lets divide the not sures, 25% in half for 12.5%.

    So 12.5% + 43% =55% possibly will say the surge failed

    So 12.5% + 27% =39% possibly will say the surge worked

    So much for BIHTSPN logic and inane spin

  25. Pillboxian Gravelite says:

    That means 61% either are unsure or don’t trust the report.

    No, it means that 26% are unsure, as in “I dont know enough to make an informed decision on how I feel, now let me get back to my dinner”.

  26. Polly Mathe says:

    I heard he’s rehearsing for the upcoming OBL video next week…

  27. Ret. Col. Jack Ripper says:

    Bushboy: “Speaking of polls, what are the approval number for Reid and Pelosi, not to mention Hillary?”

    The latest Pew poll has Hillary’s approval at 55%. The most recent Newsweek poll had her approval at 57%. Her worst showing in this area, a 41% in Gallop a few weeks ago, is better than Bush has been for almost 2 years.

    No repub candidate or possible repub candidate has beaten her in a head-to-head poll in over a month. She’s won in 12 of the last 14 major polls.

    Have a nice day!

    Moderates seek to end Iraq impasse

    The lawmakers want to change the course of the war but without a date for troop withdrawal. But will the others go along?

    By Noam N. Levey, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer
    September 6, 2007
    WASHINGTON — – Frustrated with the fierce partisanship of the war debate, moderate lawmakers on Capitol Hill are intensifying their drive to craft compromise measures to break the congressional impasse over U.S. policy in Iraq.

    Democrats and Republicans involved in the efforts say they want to pressure the White House to change course so American troops can start coming home. But their proposals stop short of setting a withdrawal deadline, the centerpiece of the Democratic legislative campaign to force an end to U.S. involvement in the war.

  42. veritas says:

    They’re cooking the books and fudging the numbers right now. How can they be trusted with anything at this point?

    Lou Dobbs tonight showed nothing but contempt for this President, this congress (both sides of the aisle) and this empty government.

    It’s time for the People’s Party to form (Independents are now 35% and are largely disgusted Democrats) so when you add that to the Democratic party which numbers 38% right now, you’ve got an overwhelming majority of americans who have “had enough” of this president and administration.

    The GOP is rapidly becoming our new “third party” and with Craig et al prancing their faces before the media every day, those numbers are decreasing rapidly.

    I predict either a restructuring of the Republican Party on the horizon or it’s total demise – extinction.

    I also predict that the Dem nominee will be Hilary and she will be swiftboated so fast by Whitewater and Foster’s death that she won’t know what hit her. Bloomberg will realize that it’s imperative for him to step into the race on the Independent ticket and if the Dem congress continues to betray the american people who put them into office, the Independent party will really take over this country…….

    Another potential scenario would be that Al Gore would realize that he is critically needed to help save this country from self-destruction and jump in on the “I” ticket.

    It’s going to be a very interesting couple of months!

  43. Pillboxian Gravelite says:

    Another potential scenario would be that Al Gore would realize that he is critically needed to help save this country from self-destruction and jump in on the “I” ticket.

    I hope he does too, if for nothing else than the great comedy that would ensue.

    Watching Gore get hammered day after day over his global warming hypocrisy would be a grand circus; jousting with Hillary would be the icing on the cake.

    Run Al, run.

    Bush took a month of vacation before 9/11 and basically ignored the intelligence [PDB] Trying to blame this on Bushes watch, well after the 100 day period, is just dumb.

    Heres why:
    Measures taken by the Clinton administration to thwart international terrorism and bin Laden’s network were historic, unprecedented and, sadly, not followed up on. Consider the steps offered by Clinton’s 1996 omnibus anti-terror legislation, the pricetag for which stood at $1.097 billion. The following is a partial list of the initiatives offered by the Clinton anti-terrorism bill:

    * Screen Checked Baggage: $91.1 million
    * Screen Carry-On Baggage: $37.8 million
    * Passenger Profiling: $10 million
    * Screener Training: $5.3 million
    * Screen Passengers (portals) and Document Scanners: $1 million
    * Deploying Existing Technology to Inspect International Air Cargo: $31.4
    million
    * Provide Additional Air/Counterterrorism Security: $26.6 million
    * Explosives Detection Training: $1.8 million
    * Augment FAA Security Research: $20 million
    * Customs Service: Explosives and Radiation Detection Equipment at Ports: $2.2 million
    * Anti-Terrorism Assistance to Foreign Governments: $2 million
    * Capacity to Collect and Assemble Explosives Data: $2.1 million
    * Improve Domestic Intelligence: $38.9 million
    * Critical Incident Response Teams for Post-Blast Deployment: $7.2 million
    * Additional Security for Federal Facilities: $6.7 million
    * Firefighter/Emergency Services Financial Assistance: $2.7 million
    * Public Building and Museum Security: $7.3 million
    * Improve Technology to Prevent Nuclear Smuggling: $8 million
    * Critical Incident Response Facility: $2 million
    * Counter-Terrorism Fund: $35 million
    * Explosives Intelligence and Support Systems: $14.2 million
    * Office of Emergency Preparedness: $5.8 million

    The Clinton administration poured more than a billion dollars into counterterrorism activities across the entire spectrum of the intelligence community, into the protection of critical infrastructure, into massive federal stockpiling of antidotes and vaccines to prepare for a possible bioterror attack, into a reorganization of the intelligence community itself. Within the National Security Council, “threat meetings” were held three times a week to assess looming conspiracies. His National Security Advisor, Sandy Berger, prepared a voluminous dossier on al-Qaeda and Osama bin Laden, actively tracking them across the planet. Clinton raised the issue of terrorism in virtually every important speech he gave in the last three years of his tenure.

    And then Jr ignored all that and the PDBs’ with lights flashing red

  76. Frank J says:

    Some how I missed this on TP. I’m sure it is here somewhere but until I find it.

    Yesterday, Chuck Schumer, the senior Senator from New York, took to the Senate floor and inexplicably denied any success of the surge in Iraq, when even elected members of his own party who have been staunch critics of the President’s Iraq policy have come back from inspection tours of Iraq touting the surge’s success. But he did so in a way that slandered the American troops, denying they were involved in anything that could be perceived to be a success regarding the surge. Here’s what Rush called this morning Schumer’s macaca moment:

    The violence in Anbar has gone down despite the surge, not because of the surge. The inability of American soldiers to protect these tribes from al Qaeda, said to these tribes: “We have to fight al Qaeda ourselves.”

    Again, Schumer is saying the only perceived success in the al-Anbar region is specifically due to the failure of our American troops.

    Today, Schumer again rose to speak on the floor of the Senate, and attempted to walk back from what he said yesterday. You can see the video for yourself.

    Nice try, the fact is Clintons legislation was gutted by the GOP as it was more interested in wag the dog politics.

    Yeh, Bush waited until after 9/11 where Bill had the foresight to do it before 9/11. The Republican congress, which gained power in 1995, saw it as pablum.

    To wit;

    Clinton’s dire public warnings about the threat posed by terrorism, and the actions taken to thwart it, went completely unreported by the media, which was far more concerned with stained dresses and baseless Drudge Report rumors. When the administration did act militarily against bin Laden and his terrorist network, the actions were dismissed by partisans within the media and Congress as scandalous “wag the dog” tactics. The news networks actually broadcast clips of the movie “Wag the Dog” while reporting on his warnings, to accentuate the idea that everything the administration said was contrived fakery.

    That point? Bwahaha, it wasnt the libs who stopped that, it was the dog wag GOP.

    Nice, ineffectual, try.

  85. Ichthus says:

    In Congress, Clinton was thwarted by the reactionary conservative majority in virtually every attempt he made to pass legislation that would attack al-Qaeda and terrorism. His 1996 omnibus terror bill, which included many of the anti-terror measures we now take for granted after September 11, was withered almost to the point of uselessness by attacks from the right; Senators Jesse Helms and Trent Lott were openly dismissive of the threats Clinton spoke of.

    Yeh, I did destroy your point Mr P. You just refuse to accept the facts.

    The point you made was Libs called unconstitutional and that they objected to those things I listed, Clinton was a ‘lib’ by your defintion, and it was the Pubs [They controlled congres and house] that denied those things I listed. YOU implied it was libs who decried the acts when the fact is it was the GOP.

    Again. Nice Try.

    No. The point I made is that it is the Proglibs who call it unconstitutional now, even though it has been shown (as a result of the 9-1-1 attacks) that those measures are necessary.

    Ah, whats the matter Mr. Pee, did I piss you off, did I insult you, did I hurt your feelings? Too bad so sad.

  99. bilbogaggins says:

    Francine, Francine, can’t you post anything other than the RNC’s talking points. Here’s your lie of today:

    “…even elected members of his own party who have been staunch critics of the President’s Iraq policy have come back from inspection tours of Iraq touting the surge’s success.”

    This is just the Rethug’s ability to disassemble. No Democrat has said that the “surge” (really escalation) is a success. Two have come back and said that in certain places it appears to have quelled the violence, but both people went on to say that it is too little, too late, and can’t succeed in the end. And overall, Iraq is just as big of a mess as it was before the “surge” if not a bigger mess considering the fact that they now have no functioning government.

    Francine, try telling the truth sometime, you might like it. And when you quote a Democrat, do not cherry pick a sentence here and there to try and score points. It is dishonest.

  100. bilbogaggins says:

    “Again, Schumer is saying the only perceived success in the al-Anbar region is specifically due to the failure of our American troops.”Comment by Frank J — September 6, 2007 @ 9:26 pm

    No, that is NOT what Chuck Schumer said. That is what the Rethugs choose to think he said by cherry picking parts of sentences and putting them together into a whole cloth that is full of holes. If anyone is interested in what Chuck Schumer really said not what Francine and the Rethugs want you to think he said, you can go here:

    God I wish there was some way we could get all Americans to read blogs and take their eyes off the 5 second sound bites on the television and the programming of their minds that goes on in the MSM by Faux Noise and CNN. Then maybe we would have an informed public. If that happened, I suspect that the 39% would be more like 9%.
