By Amanda Terkel on Sep 6th, 2007 at 2:19 pm

The J. Dennis Hastert Center.

This December, Wheaton College, outgoing Rep. Dennis Hastert’s (R-IL) alma mater, will “unveil a new academic program and center to house the documents and create an education legacy for Hastert.” The J. Dennis Hastert Center for Economics, Government and Public Policy will have “a conference room in the new center that will double as an office for Hastert.”

“Mr. Hastert? You are welcome to the donuts Bob brought, but we really must get our teleconference started. Could you come back at say, 10ish?”

  2. Menehune says:

Will he conduct periodic “wrasslin” clinics during his spare time? Perhaps a cage match between him and Mark Foley to benefit the Boys’ Clubs of America.

  3. War4Sale says:

    So, no gym then, eh?

  4. The Republic of Stupidity says:

Indeed… de Ole Coach will be grapplin’ w/ de topics of the de day!

  5. Cappy says:

Will it provide instruction in “youthful indscretions”?

  6. Uncle Ho says:

education legacy? on what? How to be a fat, stupid, drunk, and draft-dodging liar?

  7. P O'Neill says:

He’ll be ambassador to Japan before that’s up and running.

  9. tarazan says:

    Hastret legacy,What legacy?!
He never questioned anything, and he had an ‘approval stamp’ ready to use whenever Bush and Cheney asked him to use it.

  10. Jake D. says:

will it have a Sybil Edmunds wing?

  11. ProgressiveswishpublicservantswerelikeHastert says:

It’s too bad that Hastert will go; the US congress needs more solid, conservative Repubs like him that support most if not all of Bush’s foreign and domestic policies. Hastert was forced into retiring because of all the defamation the libtarded media launched because of the Foley non-scandal (does any progressive a$$hole here understand Foley WILL NOT BE CHARGED for his harmless e-mails??). Those of intellectual honesty will remember that Hastert advocated the good in life: the fair tax, Bush tax cuts, the war on terror, and pro-life and pro-family stands. Hastert’s record is only being tainted by libtarded defamations involving Abramoff and Foley, but progtards must remember this. Hastert only received money from Abramoff, like almost every single politician on Capitol Hill. As for Foley, Hastert should be praised because the only reason he didn’t have Foley removed is because the parents of the 17-year-old page refused to pursue action against Foley. Hastert respected the parents’ wishes.

And that would be continuing investigations of Repub corruption?

  15. CD says:

Will the Center make any note of how Hastert knew Foley was having sex with children and did nothing?

Dermot, for some reason I couldn’t continue posting on the other thread…here’s my response…

“You have to admit, however that any one of the DEM candidates would be a better choice than

the GOPR candidates who make George W. Bush look like Mother Theresa.”

I would vote for Ron Paul before I’d vote for Hilary, based solely on his Iraq position.
    Comment by Dermot — September 6, 2007 @ 2:20 pm

I’d agree with you if Ron Paul has a strong viability for the nomination. I was basing my

    analogy on the top-tier GOPrs.

  18. gumby says:

Wheaton College made national headlines on February 20, 2003 when it lifted its then 143 year-old ban on student dancing. In addition to allowing undergraduate students to dance, Wheaton granted “adult faculty members and grad students … the freedom to choose whether they want to smoke or drink alcohol, at least while off-campus.”

  20. null says:

get real, just rename the cafeteria the Hasturd Food Court

  21. gdm says:

I’m sure a fast food wing will be included. Cheeseburgers free to everyone on opening day.

  22. Jackie says:

As the secrets unfold look for the School to change the name. Dennis is not coming back to the Senate because of the crimes he’s committed and the money he’s stole. Look for the pervert scandals to be part of his legacy and the student will ask him in person about his support of Fingers Foley and the years he was allowed to molest kids with Dennis’s blessings.

  23. Jake D. says:

Well, one legacy is that Hastert was the longest-serving GOP Speaker of the House — beating out Joe Cannon (as in “Cannon Office Building”). Who says I never post fact-based information?

  24. Rick says:

So they are doubling Billy Graham’s house that they moved there years ago with this center? I’ll bet the living room’s going to be too big for all those narrow minds that will attend.

Funny those youthful indiscretions ending up in one of the last remaining dry towns in the state.

  25. jj says:

Wheaton College also is the home of the Institute of Strategic Evangelism & the Billy Graham Center, and the original wardrobe case from “The Secrets of Narnia”. It is where GHW Bush’s Marine 1 helicopter crashed a number of years ago. It is a very conservative place.

  26. A.Political says:

Hastert is a toad, granted a huge toad, but a toad nonetheless

    Comment by Jake D. — September 6, 2007 @ 3:03 pm

I don’t know who says that you NEVER post fact-based information. The problem with you and your troll ilk, Jake, is that you post SO MUCH that is NOT fact-based. Just because you sometimes post “fact-based information” doesn’t make the “fantasy-based information” which you usually try to sell, reliable or valuable.

  28. Jake D. says:

If I come across those posts, trollbuster, I will let you know.

  29. jj says:

Sorry, Wheaton is no longer a dry town. They started to allow alcohol with meals several years ago when the town annexed a bunch of land and zoned it for a strip mall and golf club. They even have a Chili’s now.

  30. A.Political says:

“Sorry, Wheaton is no longer a dry town. They started to allow alcohol with meals several years ago…”

and it all went to hell in a hand-basket after that…heathens!

  31. jj says:

Booze cigarettes and dancing, now! Oh, MY! They are all going to become Demon-crats!

  32. Jake D. says:

Of course, Tip O’Neill (D-MA) also served as Speaker of the House for 10 years, and Sam Rayborn (D-TX) served 18 years (just not consecutively): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Speakers_of_the_United_States_House_of_Representatives

  33. I Love Barack Obama says:

Will the door be big enough for Hastert to fit through? Will his desk chair be big enough to accomodate his ample derriere? The conference room better “double as an office for Hastert” because he is too much of a whale to fit into a normal sized office. Hastert is the poster doughboy for what is wrong with us today: we’re too fat- this is why our healthcare system sucks, because fat people are putting too much pressure on it.

Give Dennis doughnuts and little boys and he’ll be a happy clam.

  34. Bernard Quatermass says:

“Who says I never post fact-based information?”

Unfortunately, one can “base” almost anything one pleases on a fact.

  35. MapleStreet says:

In buildings of this sort, it is natural to have a display of the honored name in their most memorable moments. Shall we suggest with Enron, with Abramov, etc. ?

Free barbecued short ribs to all visitors!

  37. ronjazz says:

“a conference room in the new center that will double as an office for Hastert.”

A conference room that needs to be doubled as an office for FatStert

  38. null says:

    wow am i screwed.

i LIVE in wheaton and drive through that freakin campus all the time. it would actually be an improvement to raise the Dunkin J Hastert Donuts franchise there–and allow me to pick up some dunkin munchkins on my way to the office…

small slice of life in Wheaton, Illinois… When i go to the starbucks on Main St (yes, it is named Main St..) there are typically at least 2 evangelical students reading their bubles or discussing what jeebus said…

now i suppose i will have to endure the stooduntz talking about IMing Denny and Mark.. about wrasslin…

    Wooohooo….Jake D(ick) is sooooo…. smarrrr…ttt…

  42. Buck Fush says:

Did they Super Size that office? Do they have PORK vending machines there? Can Mark Foley get a job there to give tours to the kiddies?

  43. Norm says:

I wonder how long this partnership will last when he is outed like Craig. Another nasty dirty person.

“Flat out sloppy”….oops my bad, I thought that headline went with the Hastert story.

As for your latest moniker, only in your wet dreams, hate-filled troll.
In your love letter to Hastert, you failed to mention how he removed Joel Hefley, a Reagan Republican, as chairman of the House Ethics Committee for merely doing his job by admonishing Tom Delay for some violations of ethics.

  47. iamwil says:

Double is defintely an appropriate verb to associate with Hastert.

  48. Mugabi says:

I can’t wait for the J. Dennis Hastert Center to open!!!

I hope it’s within walking distance of the Derek Zoolander Center for Kids who Can’t Read Good.

  49. destardi says:

I took a few classes at the college of DuPage…in Wheaton.

The majority of profs I had were conservative (females, even). One hid it quite well (philosophy), the other was a blatant nutjob, which I had a confrontation with in class, and scheduled a meeting with the Dean about her).

Apparently the number of churches in the area is very high, along with do-gooders who don’t venture into Chicago very often. ArghhhhhH!
