A loyal Bushie to the very end.

A loyal Bushie to the very end.

Yesterday, in one of his final speeches as Attorney General, Alberto Gonzales “spent almost an hour” at the Coast Guard Academy “defending the legal decisions his office and the president made to oppose terrorism.” From the Hartford Courant:

He also defended the holding facility at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and the legal protections of its inmates and said, “Never before in our nation’s history have we given such robust protection to combatants picked up on the field of battle.”

In a question-and-answer session with cadets, he briefly mentioned his decision to resign, announced Aug. 27. “Leaving this position was a difficult decision,” he said. “I’ve had the ride of a lifetime,” though he latter added, “The past several months have been difficult for me personally.” [...]

One cadet asked Gonzales when the war will be considered finished. Gonzales replied, “What I say is: It’s not over today. There are people still plotting against Americans today. I can’t tell you when it’s going to be over.”

Gonzales will always be a Bush stooge forever.

  2. Polly Mathe says:

    Despicible cretin.

  3. Jackie says:

Gonzo should tell that speech to God and see how well it works. Supporting Satan on earth is going to be hard to defend. 4000 plus soldiers dead and thousands of men/women/children tortured with the Gonzo policy. Let’s see how Gonzo likes being treated the way he treated others. Daddy Bush told his baby son to kick Gonzo out now that’s loyalty Bush style.

  4. Bobwurst says:

Maybe gonzo doesn’t know what robust means…

  5. BARTLEBEE says:

Gonzales was a better AG than Reno. No doubt about it.

  6. raynman says:

I don’t recall saying that the war was ever going to be over.

  7. Mr. Evil says:

The only people plotting against Americans are your soon-to-be former bosses, Bush and Cheney.

  8. celtic cynic says:

Gonzo sez “Never before in our nation’s history have we given such robust protection to combatants picked up on the field of battle.”.
Beating them, torturing them, waterboarding them, depriving them of sleep or any other human dignities does not constitute protection, robust or otherwise.
The man is sick, a war criminal, a coward, a phony, a disgrace to America. (and those are his good points).
The so-called students at the Coast Guard Academy should have thrown him out, but apparently they’re already brainwashed.

  9. Frank J says:

According to ABC News the new bin Laden tape indicates he’s spent a lot of the past four years reading, and probably posting, at Daily Kos and shares a lot of their frustrations:

People of America: the world is following your news in regards to your invasion of Iraq, for people have recently come to know that, after several years of tragedies of this war, the vast majority of you want it stopped. Thus, you elected the Democratic Party for this purpose, but the Democrats haven’t made a move worth mentioning. On the contrary, they continue to agree to the spending of tens of billions to continue the killing and war there.”

He gives a nod to the No Blood For Oil crowd as well as those who oppose trying to bring a democratic form of government to Iraq.

“It has now become clear to you and the entire world the impotence of the democratic system and how it plays with the interests of the peoples and their blood by sacrificing soldiers and populations to achieve the interests of the major corporations.”

And he provides some free financial advice in the bargain:

He also speaks to recent issues grabbing headlines in the United States, referring to “the reeling of many of you under the burden of interest-related debts, insane taxes and real estate mortgages; global warming and its woes…”

“To conclude,” bin Laden says, “I invite you to embrace Islam.” He goes on to say: “There are no taxes in Islam, but rather there is a limited Zakaat [alms] totaling 2.5 percent.”

Ah, the stench of Alberto lyin…

On another related topic, Is the “Weekend at Binnie’s” in rerun again? Osama Bin Laden has been dead for over five and a half years now: he passed away of natural causes in December, 2001 and is buried in the mountains in southeastern Afghanistan. See http://www.whatreallyhappened.com for details.

However, the Bush crime family and the complicit corporate US media love propping up the body and trotting our their homemade “Bin Laden videos” whenever they think that they need a little boost in fear mongering with the absurd notion that “the bogey-terraists are gonna git ya…” if you don’t goosestep right along with our own Little Napoleon…

What a flippin moron. He is such an embarrasment. He has done more to harm hispanics in this country–take off Fredo, just go back to Texas.

  12. Snake Plisken says:

“Never before in our nation’s history have we given such permanent imprisonment, without being charged, to dirt farmers picked up on the field of battle, all at a huge cost to you taxpayers”

  13. Art says:

Gonzo – “I’ve had the ride of a lifetime”

    Bush – “I’m playing for October-November.”

In the words of Vince Lombardi… “What the hell’s going on out there!!”

  14. J Lewd says:

To continue the Vince Lombardi theme:

The Packers had fallen on hard times — a series of losses following a World Championship season. Coach Lombardi thought it was time to return to the fundamentals of the game. During a team meeting, Lombardi told his players it was time to get back to the basics. “Gentleman,” he said, holding an oblong ball aloft, “this is a football.” GW raised his hand and said: “Can you slow down a bit coach? I’m tryin’ to take notes.”

  15. Snidely Whiplash says:

Gonzales then walked to the side of the stage and took a giant cr*p on the United States Constitution.

Thanks, Frank Jake. Sounds to me like bin Laden is courting the “No New Taxes” Repub base. Does that mean that if we cut taxes, we’re doing exactly what bin Laden wants?????

    Kevin Good: He doesn’t recall.

Chucko Gonzales should be required by a court to wear a clown’s red nose for the rest of his life.

Gonzo needs a prosecutor from the Hague to give him a through look. And he may get it.

Hang EVERY stinking, lying, thieving, torturing, mass murdering ONE Of ‘EM…

  31. Solitaire says:

Well, at least we don’t have HIM plotting against the United States anymore. With friends like him, who needs Osamas? For a lawyer, he seemed strangely dead set against the balance of power laid out in the Constitution. He and a Republican Congress made a king out of Bush. They didn’t ask anybody, they just did it. For this, there will be no forgiveness in history. For this, they will be seen as plotters and traitors. Truth has a certain indestructible element to it.

  32. Chocolate Jesus says:

re: when is the war on terror over.
    > “What I say is: It’s not over today. There are people still plotting against >Americans today.

there will always be people plotting against us. thus in the Bush cultists mind, the war will never be over. and thats ok with them. to people who rejoice in, or profit from, perpetual war, there is no advantag to being at peace…

i had a chance to ask justice kennedy this same question, he dodged it also, albeit in a less arrogant way….something to the effect of “i was always uncomforable with the term ‘war on drugs’ because I thought it implied you had to hurt innocent people to solve the problem’” …

  33. Wayne A. Schneider says:

    I’m disappointed that you do.

  34. bernarda says:

I have mentioned the illegality of the Guantanamo prison in various places over the years. It is not only unconstitutional, it violates the treaty(imposed by the U.S. in 1903, later modified )with Cuba that stipulates its use as a naval supply station. There is no provision for it being used for a prison.

Finally, a newspaper has published on the U.S. violation of the (illegal)treaty.

    http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/2007/04/22/MNGSLPAVUL1.DTL&type=politics

“The 103-year-old agreement limits use of the Cuban territory to “coaling and naval purposes only,” neither of which appears to cover the prison or tribunal operations. The agreement also expressly prohibits “commercial, industrial or other enterprise within said areas,” but the U.S. base now sports a McDonald’s, two Starbucks outlets, a Subway sandwich shop and other American concessions.

Such breaches of the treaty render it voidable, the Council on Hemispheric Affairs stated in its report urging the U.S. government to cease its use of Guantanamo against the host country’s wishes. “

  35. Bernard Quatermass says:

“they probably don’t know what constitutes a ship or boat”

Worse: they don’t know what constitutes a Constitution.
