Senate okays aid to overseas groups that support abortion.
The Senate yesterday defied a White House veto threat and overturned “a long-standing ban on U.S. funding for overseas family planning groups that support abortion.” Seven Republicans joined 44 Democrats in reversing the ban, which was first implemented by President Ronald Reagan. President Clinton rescinded it, but it was then reinstated by Bush. (Bush v. Choice has more.)

It forbade money from being given to groups that advocate for abortion rights, regardless of how that money was spent. If a group was the only one providing pre-natal care for pregnant women in an area, too bad, they’re out of business. No pre-natal care for you!
How many deaths do you think this policy caused? How many women lost their babies, or their own lives, because the groups that funded the presence of medical care had to fold up their tents?

Republicans can’t stand other people having choice which is why they feel the need to force ‘christianity’ (or their strange version of it) on the rest of us. CHOICE means a woman has a right to do with her body what she choses.
As a gay man I can really understand this rather fundamental desire a woman would have considering the government has invaded our lives over and over again. Of course I assume you believe this is just the ‘homosexual agenda’ to try and keep government out of our private lives.
The fact is Bush has been trying to push ‘christian’ morays onto the rest of the world by using this anti-abortion policy. This is not about murder, it’s about pushing a conservative agenda on people. Women need the choice to be able to stop an unwanted pregnancy. I can’t imagine anything worse than knowing I’ve become pregnant and won’t have a way of providing for it once it’s born.

Certainly way too much corruption in our elected officials. Seems to be fostered by the massive amount of money it takes to run for office. Anybody elected is beholden to someone or some corporation or special interest. I support public financing of elections.
