I can understand Warner's retirement, as he's getting pretty old. I can understand Hastert's retirement, as he was involved in covering up Mark Foley's activities with the pages over the years. Hagel has a very conservative voting record but has been critical of the Iraq war. I would think he would have a good chance of getting re-elected in his state. Unless there's something on the horizon regarding corruption or sexual activity or, on the other hand, illness in his family, I don't understand this. If it's just that he's gotten tired of politics, then I applaud his decision to depart, as there are too many long-time career parasites in government and we new blood.
