Snow: We’re no longer ‘getting killed’ in Iraq.»

In an interview with the AP, outgoing White House Press Secretary Tony Snow claimed that the United States is now winning in Iraq:

If you had asked two months ago, ‘Is the surge succeeding?’ people would have said, ‘Ah, we’re getting killed.’ I mean literally,” White House press secretary Tony Snow said in an interview. “But now it’s very obvious that on the military side there has been some profound progress. And that progress also has real political implications in terms of the Iraqi people standing up to the folks who have been trying to blow up the government.”

Seven U.S. troops were killed in Iraq yesterday, bringing the month’s total to 18. August was the second month in a row that Iraqi civilian deaths rose.

Have Snow, Bush, and the neocons convinced America to give a shit about Iraq, yet? That is s failure of leaderhip.

  2. barkleyg Says:

And less than 2/3 of the Iraqi parliament showed up Tuesday after their Summer break.

But hey, political matters don’t matter anymore according to King George. The purpose of the “surge” was to give the parliament “breathing room” to conduct business, and less than 2/3 show up.

    The surge aint working!!

We all know how progressive vermin are wishing ill on Tony Snow, wishing for his cancer to kill him and being tearful when it doesn’t happen, but this “article” by TP stretches even the wildness that’s common for progressive, intellectual dishonesty. The headline was childishly manufactured by TP to include an out-of-context quote by Snow with phrasing that TP planted around his quote to fabricate what Snow said. Snow never said we’re “no longer getting killed.” In the ASSociated Press article, Snow’s dependable and verifiable argument is that the surge is working militarily, and this breathing room that’s been created is permitting the Iraqis to reconcile politically and to stand up to terrorists like they are in Anbar. The progressive haters who aggressively insist, beyond any reasonable claim, that the Iraqis should reach political reconciliation NOW, when the surge has only existed in full for maybe a month-and-a-half, are really laughable and insane.

  8. Bernard Quatermass Says:

“We all know how progressive vermin …”

How oddly reminiscent this is of a certain era of Germany’s characterization of the Jews. I’m certain there’s absolutely no substantive similarity between the motivation, though. Oh yes. Absolutely certain. Nothing totalitarian nor thought-control-y nor “you are free to do as we tell you” here. Move on.

    What a putz.

  9. headybrew.net Says:

Oh my GOD! why do we let people get away with this level of pure and OBVIOUS lies. Why does a statement like this not result in major embarrassment for the administration and lead to the firing of the idiot spokesperson who would say such a thing.

Are we americans that stupid that we don’t call them on this cr@p?

Where is the outrage? Americans are dying daily in Iraq and more have died in this war than in 9/11 or all terrorism since. When will we wake up and get properly pissed off at these criminals?

The Iraqi Government is in shambles and rife with corruption, the sectarian violence hasn’t abated much even though Sadr has his forces in a cease fire for the time being.

Of course corruption is something Mr P likes in a Republican government, as he works so hard to help cloak it.

Wrongo, Mr. Keebler. The Sunnis were standing up to AQI before the surge, not because of it. Perhaps if you weren’t living in a fantasy world of your government’s creation, you might learn the truth once in a while.

I know it’s painful to think that your own government would lie to you and use your unfettered faith in them to pursue globally destructive policies, but that is what’s happened. And that is why they need to be impeached and removed from office.

BAGHDAD - A suicide car bomber detonated his explosives-packed Mercedes near a row of stores in the Shiite militia stronghold of Sadr City on Saturday, killing at least 15 people, police and hospital officials said.

The attack in the eastern Baghdad enclave came as at least 36 other people were killed or found dead in Iraq, including four who died in a bombing of an outdoor market in the Shiite holy city of Kufa.

  41. Abby Says:

Victory is a free and democratic Iraq. Even by that definition, if we “win”, we lose because a free and democratic Iraq will be a Shiite dominated Islamic country that is politically and culturally aligned with Iran. That beauty spot on our face will have grown into a wart 6″ across.

Only complete morons would fight for a victory in Iraq when they don’t even know what victory will look like.

When our boy Saddam (remember who found him, trained him and put him in power?) was ruling Iraq, we had already won. Iraq under Saddam was a Secular levy holding back the spread of militant Islam from Afghanistan all the way to the Mediterranean. Saddam was at logger heads with Iran, the more real threat. God was in his Heaven and we were the Kings of the World. Both feared and respected by all.

We lost it all the instant we ventured into Iraq. There is no winning there and the only thing we can now control is the magnitude of our eventual defeat. The longer we stay, the bigger and wider the pole that is eventually shoved up our ass.

    Comment by Another Chris

Come on, Another Chris, please explain which camp they are sending 82nd Airborne troops to in Korea.
I am curious because I cannot find any 82nd troops assigned there currently.

When America was attacked on Sept. 11, 2001, President George W. Bush called upon the American military to fight global terrorism. 82d soldiers deployed to Afghanistan and the Central Command Area of Responsibility to support combat operations.

In June 2002 the 82nd Airborne’s Task Force Panther, comprised of elements from the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment and other 82nd units, deployed to the Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Task Force Devil, comprised of the 504th PIR and other 82nd elements, replaced Task Force Panther in January 2003, where they maintained the division’s mission.

In February of 2003, the 2nd Brigade Combat Team (BCT), deployed along with the Division Headquarters to Kuwait in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The 2nd BCT of the 82nd Airborne Division was the theater reserve, available to employ deep in Iraq — specifically Baghdad. The 82nd could jump or fly into Baghdad to restore order and demonstrate a coalition presence if Saddam’s government fled or imploded. In the meantime its presence in the theater gave Saddam another problem to contemplate. The Division conducted sustained combat operations throughout Iraq and the CENTCOM area of operations. In May 2003 the Division Headquarters returned to Fort Bragg. The 2nd BCT remained in Iraq attached to the 1st Armored Division and continued to conduct combat operations. The Division Headquarters along with the 3rd BCT and elements of the DIVARTY, DISCOM, Aviation, and separate battalions returned to Iraq in August of 2003 to continue command and control over combat operations in and around Baghdad. In January 2004 the 1st BCT deployed to conduct combat operations in OIF. The 2nd BCT redeployed to Fort Bragg, North Carolina in February. The Division Headquarters was relieved by the 1st Marine Expeditionary Division in March of 2004 and the remaining 82nd forces in Iraq redeployed to Fort Bragg, NC by the end of April 2004. For the first time in two years all of the Division’s units were returned to home station.

In September of 2004, the 82nd’s DRF-1, 1-505 was deployed to support OEF 6 in support of JTF-76 and the Afghnistan elections. The TF redeployed in October 2004.

In December 2004, the 82nd’s 1-17th Cav, TF 2-325 and TF 3-325 deployed to Iraq in support of the Iraqi national elections. They started their redeployment to Fort Bragg in March 2005.

In July of 2005, the 82nd’s TF 1-325 and slice elements deployed to Afghanistan in support of the Afghanistan national elections. They started their redeployment to Fort Bragg in November of 2005.

In September 2005, the 82nd TF 2-325 and TF 3-504 deployed to Iraq in support of the Iraqi national elections.

I guess things have changed a lot since I was in RVN. We would have said it was a bad day if we had 1 casualty, WIA or KIA. But maybe the 82nd isn’t that much into their fellow troops any more.

If so, what a sad day for the US military and glad I am not in any more.

Just checked the Ft Bragg page and emailed some people. No one can find any 82nd Airborne Brigades currently stationed in Korea.
They are all either in Afghanistan or Iraq, or at home in Ft Bragg. ( unless there is a “below the radar” operation happening in Korea that’s not public knowledge. )

    I am very curious……..

Planes of 911 Exceeded Their Software Limits

    Jim Heikkila

Two of the aircraft exceeded their software limits on 9/11.

The Boeing 757 and 767 are equipped with fully autonomous flight capability, they are the only two Boeing commuter aircraft capable of fully autonomous flight. They can be programmed to take off, fly to a destination and land, completely without a pilot at the controls.

They are intelligent planes, and have software limits pre set so that pilot error cannot cause passenger injury. Though they are physically capable of high g maneuvers, the software in their flight control systems prevents high g maneuvers from being performed via the cockpit controls. They are limited to approximately 1.5 g’s, I repeat, one and one half g’s. This is so that a pilot mistake cannot end up breaking grandma’s neck.

No matter what the pilot wants, he cannot override this feature.

The plane that hit the Pentagon approached or reached its actual physical limits, military personnel have calculated that the Pentagon plane pulled between five and seven g’s in its final turn.

The same is true for the second aircraft to impact the WTC.

There is only one way this can happen.

As well as fully autonomous flight capability, the 767 and 757 are the ONLY COMMUTER PLANES MADE BY BOEING THAT CAN BE FLOWN VIA REMOTE CONTROL. It is a feature that is standard to all of them, all 757’s and 767’s can do it. The purpose for this is if there is a problem with the pilots, Norad can fly the planes to safe destinations via remote. Only in this flight mode can those craft exceed their software limits and perform to their actual physical limits because a pre existing emergency situation is assumed if this mode of flight is used.

    [Google “Raytheon Global Hawk system”]

Terrorists in fact did not fly those planes, it is totally and completely impossible for those planes to have been flown in such a manner from the cockpit. Those are commuter aircraft, not F-16’s and their software knows it.

Another piece of critical evidence: the voice recorders came up blank.

The flight recorders that were recovered had tape that was undamaged inside, but it was blank. There is only one way this can happen on a 757 or 767. When the aircraft are commandeered via remote control, the microphones that go to the cockpit voice recorder are re routed to the people doing the remote controlling, so that the recording of what happened in the cockpit gets made in a presumably safer place. But due to a glitch in the system on a 757/767, rather than shutting off when the mic is redirected the voice recorder keeps running. The voice recorders use what is called a continuous loop tape, which automatically re passes itself past the erase and record heads once every half hour, so after a half hour of running with the microphones redirected, the tape will be blank. Just like the recovered tapes were. Yet more proof that no pilot flew those planes in the last half hour.

Eight of the hijackers who were on those planes called up complaining that they were still alive. I’d bet you never heard about our foreign minister flying to Morocco and issuing an official apology to the accused, did you? No, terrorists did not fly those planes, plastic knives and box cutters were in fact too ridiculous to be true. Any of the remaining accused have certainly been sought out and killed by now.

    P.S.
    U.S. Navy ‘Top Gun’ Pilot
    Questions 911 Pentagon Story
    By Alan Miller
    OpedNews.com
    9-6-7

U.S. Navy `Top Gun’ pilot, Commander Ralph Kolstad, started questioning the official account of 9/11 within days of the event. “It just didn’t make any sense to me,” he said. And now 6 years after 9/11 he says, “When one starts using his own mind, and not what one was told, there is very little to believe in the official story.”

Now retired, Commander Kolstad was a top-rated fighter pilot during his 20-year Navy career. Early in his career, he was accorded the honor of being selected to participate in the Navy’s `Top Gun’ air combat school, officially known as the U.S. Navy Fighter Weapons School. The Tom Cruise movie, “Top Gun” reflects the experience of the young Navy pilots at the school. Eleven years later, Commander Kolstad was further honored by being selected to become a `Top Gun’ adversary instructor. While in the Navy, he flew F-4 Phantoms, A-4 Skyhawks, and F-14 Tomcats and completed 250 aircraft carrier landings.

Commander Kolstad had a second career after his 20 years of Navy active and reserve service and served as a commercial airline pilot for 27 years, flying for American Airlines and other domestic and international careers. He flew Boeing 727, 757 and 767, McDonnell Douglas MD-80, and Fokker F-100 airliners. He has flown a total of over 23,000 hours in his career.

Commander Kolstad is especially critical of the account of American Airlines Flight 77 that allegedly crashed into the Pentagon. He says, “At the Pentagon, the pilot of the Boeing 757 did quite a feat of flying. I have 6,000 hours of flight time in Boeing 757’s and 767’s and I could not have flown it the way the flight path was described.”

Commander Kolstad adds, “I was also a Navy fighter pilot and Air Combat Instructor and have experience flying low altitude, high speed aircraft. I could not have done what these beginners did. Something stinks to high heaven!”

He points to the physical evidence at the Pentagon impact site and asks in exasperation, “Where is the damage to the wall of the Pentagon from the wings? Where are the big pieces that always break away in an accident? Where is all the luggage? Where are the miles and miles of wire, cable, and lines that are part and parcel of any large aircraft? Where are the steel engine parts? Where is the steel landing gear? Where is the tail section that would have broken into large pieces?”

But no major element of the official account of 9/11 is spared from Commander Kolstad’s criticism. Regarding the alleged impact site of United Airlines Flight 93 near Shanksville, PA, he asks, “Where is any of the wreckage? Of all the pictures I have seen, there is only a hole! Where is any piece of a crashed airplane? Why was the area cordoned off, and no inspection allowed by the normal accident personnel? Where is any evidence at all?”

Commander Kolstad also questions many aspects of the attack on the World Trade Center. “How could a steel and concrete building collapse after being hit by a Boeing 767? Didn’t the engineers design it to withstand a direct hit from a Boeing 707, approximately the same size and weight of the 767? The evidence just doesn’t add up.”

“Why did the second building collapse before the first one, which had been burning for 20 minutes longer after a direct hit, especially when the second one hit was just a glancing blow? If the fire was so hot, then why were people looking out the windows and in the destroyed areas? Why have so many members of the New York Fire Department reported seeing or hearing many `explosions’ before the buildings collapsed?”

Commander Kolstad summarized his frustration with the investigation and disbelief of the official account of 9/11, “If one were to act as an accident investigator, one would look at the evidence, and then construct a plausible scenario as to what led to the accident. In this case, we were told the story and then the evidence was built to support the story. What happened to any intelligent investigation? Every question leads to another question that has not been answered by anyone in authority. This is just the beginning as to why I don’t believe the official `story’ and why I want the truth to be told.”

I can understand why someone might think that, though I don’t believe it. Similarly I have felt for a long time that Republicans will fight tooth & nail not to allow the troops to be withdrawn because if they leave & the fighting stops the entire Republican “war” argument will be lost. Republicans will do better in the upcoming election the more deaths there are in Iraq. That may seem counterintuitive but they are trying to run the country on the basis of fear & without constant death or threat of death that won’t work.

    http://www.ae911truth.org/

As your own eyes witness — (in video on site) WTC Building #7 (a 47 story high-rise not hit by an airplane) exhibits all the characteristics of a classic controlled demolition with explosives:

    1. Rapid onset of “collapse”

    2. Sounds of explosions at ground floor - a full second prior to collapse (heard by hundreds of firemen and media reporters)

    3. Symmetrical “collapse” – through the path of greatest resistance – at free-fall speed — the columns gave no resistance

    4. Squibs, or “mistimed” explosions, at the upper 7 floors seen in the network videos

    5. “Collapses” into its own footprint – with the steel skeleton broken up for shipment

    6. Massive volume of expanding pyroclastic dust clouds

    7. Tons of molten Metal found by CDI (Demolition Contractor) in basement (no other possible source than an incendiary cutting charge such as Thermate)

    8. Chemical signature of Thermate (high tech incendiary) found in slag, solidified molten metal, and dust samples by Physics professor Steven Jones, PhD.

    9. FEMA finds rapid oxidation and intergranular melting on structural steel samples

    10. Expert corroboration from the top European Controlled Demolition professional

    11. Fore-knowledge of “collapse” by media, NYPD, FDNY

And exhibited none of the characteristics of destruction by fire, i.e.

    1. Slow onset with large visible deformations

    2. Asymmetrical collapse which follows the path of least resistance (laws of conservation of momentum would cause a falling, to the side most damaged by the fires)

    3. Evidence of fire temperatures capable of softening steel

    4. High-rise buildings with much larger, hotter, and longer lasting fires have never “collapsed”.

    Please note:
Jan 05, was the only year that we lost more troops than this year in Jan.

April 04, was the only year that we lost more troops than this year in April.

August 05, we lost one more than last year in August.

All the rest of the months in all of the rest of the years we have lost more this year.

Please tell me how this is working????

I hear you. I am scraping by but slowly climbing…at least I think so…

It’s crazy living in NYC and making good money and seem to be stuck in neutral and yet you see mad money made by people that you wonder how the heck they do it and why are they paid that for the “services” they provide which is essentially moving phantom numbers and info to somewhere else….nothing tangible or concrete. That’s my soapbox for the night….tired and sleepy…g’night all.

Ah, that elusive definition of “winning”, it’s very convenvient to have it flit like a butterfly from this to that… fascinating us all while the lives of the soldiers and the souls of the Iraqi people flutter by. He’s staying to pass the problem to the next guy. He’s staying in Iraq until he leaves office. He lied us into Iraq and that’s where he going to dump us when he’s done, the little pipsqueek. He never could clean up his own messes.

    …this morning on C-Span…

…a TREASONOUS Bushite worshipping propaganda who*e…

    …retired General (last name) Kean(e)…

    …responding to a caller’s query about the U.S.’ arming the Sunnis- being a mistake…

    …said…

…”We’re not really arming the Sunnis, they’re already armed”…

    …a very telling inadvertent TRUTH…

…the Sunni (and Shi’ite) police and military are NOT being adequately equipped or armed…

…with the newest most sophisticated weaponry or intelligence gathering equipment…

…necessary for them to effectively “SECURE” their country…

…because the U.S. forces can’t TRUST that these weapons or equipment won’t be turned against them…

    …moral of story?…

…the Iraqi military and police will NEVER (under U.S.occupation)…

    …be allowed to “stand up”…

    …so that the U.S.miltary can “stand down”…

Oh good, we’re winning again, and again, and again. If we’d won World War Two this many times we would only now be holding the Nuremburg trials after all the Nazi’s had died a natural death.

  148. NeoCONS 'R' SCUM Says:

snowJOB- go off into Hospice now, we’ve had enough of you and your BULLSHIT. You’re the most condescending little prick most of us have ever heard; but also about the most adept at tap dancer around teh Truth- so glib, so fast on your feet.
Now the nice high dose-druggies you’ll get as you asses your ‘life’ here before riding teh fast train to Hell (TM) will allow you to go out maybe believing that some of the lies and filth that you spewed were helpful to someone besides the NoeCON SCUM you adore.

You obviously didn’t do it for the money.

  149. Lynne Kringler Says:

What war are we winning or losing? Why is it a defeat or a victory for us? When did killing, imprisoning, and torturing Iraqis become fighting for Iraq? How did we get so turned around that we don’t know who our enemies are? Who are ‘the ememy’? Those 3 and 1/2 million people that are displaced from their homes? The 1 + million dead Iraqi men women and children? The millions that have no electricity in 130 degree heat. Imagine having drinking water so polluted that even boiling it makes you sick.

I was taught that for every one person that dies, it touches at least one hundred lives. Imagine the hate that we are generating. Imagine armed gunmen breaking down your door in the middle of the night, imprisoning the men and boys, torturing them and maybe killing them. I would hate with a hate that I can’t even discribe. What would I do? God only knows, but I know it would be anything I could think of to help protect my family and country.

When did the lives of 3,000 Americans become worth more than 4 million Iraqis, that had never done anything to us? How can we justify this? How can we allow these mass murderers to continue their assault on the people of the world?

This regime has killed more Iraqis, in 5 years, than Saddam did in his 20+ years.
