Petraeus Gives Exclusive One Hour Interview To Fox

Tomorrow night, after spending the day telling Congress that President Bush’s Iraq escalation should continue, Gen. David Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan Crocker will take their PR campaign to a more comfortable setting: Fox News.

On Fox News Sunday this morning, host Chris Wallace announced the interview:

WALLACE: Now a special program note. Tomorrow night at 9:00 p.m. eastern on the Fox News Channel, Brit will have an exclusive interview with General David Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan Crocker about the state of the Iraq war and their testimony to Congress. Please be sure to watch.

Watch it:

In a recent report on Iraq, the nonpartisan Government Accountability Office raised concerns that Gen. Petraeus’ numbers do not reflect the reality on the ground, specifically the levels of sectarian violence, which the watchdog said are much higher than Petraeus and the military have been saying.

After concerns were raised over the military’s statistics, it was announced that Petraeus wouldn’t issue a report after all. Now, in another attempt to avoid scrutiny, Petraeus will be taking his cooked stats to a friendly forum on Fox.

Digg It!

UPDATE: Drudge is promoting the Fox News interview.

UPDATE II: Newshounds reports that Fox News has been hiding the truth about the Iraq war ahead of Petraeus’ testimony before Congress.

Shame on Petraeus. He's allowing himself to used as a tool for politics, and this is so in your face political it's not even funny. He's a disgrace to legions of great Generals who have come before him. I don't have a particular problem with him appearing on news programs, but at least agree to appear on all of them, not just the WH's official propaganda network.

IS "AL QAEDA'S" FORCE OF 3000 SO MUCH BETTER ORGANIZED, ARMED AND EQUIPPED THAT THEY'VE BEEN ABLE TO DEFEAT 160,000 AMERICAN SOLDIERS?

IS "AL QAEDA'S" FORCE OF 3000 SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE NEARLY 4000 AMERICAN DEATHS THUS FAR?

  39. CaptainVideo Says:

There is as extensive and determined a campaign by the Bush admistration to convince the American people that the surge is working as there was before the war to convince the American people that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction, was involved in 9/11, and was an imminent threat.

The Bush administration has succeeded in fooling the beltway pundits and the corporate media a second time. But it can't fool the American people a second time. They don't believe that Petaeus is going to tell the truth about the situation or that the situation is improving.

After all, you can fool some of the people all of the time, and the beltway pundits and corporate media are some of these people. But the American people have shown that you really cannot fool all of the people all of the time.

I suggest that the next Democratic President will make General Wesley Clark secretary of defense and put him in charge of extracting us from this quagmire.

"Clark commanded Operation Allied Force in the Kosovo War during his term as the Supreme Allied Commander Europe of NATO from 1997 to 2000. Some of Clark's command decisions during the conflict, such as his statements at press briefings and his actions at Priština International Airport, were heavily criticized. "

Not the right guy I'm afraid.

  46. Mr T Says:

So is there anything Petraus can announce/report that might be credible? Seems a lot of opinions have been formed about his report well in advance of his report. Now THAT'S a recipe for an intelligent discussion. Now for those of you who haven't heard a word spoken to you in the past 7 years .. that was sarcasm.

  47. Another Chris Says:

"going to S. Korea, as the only member there. Might get kinda lonely."

There's about 30,000 US troops in South Korea right now, give or take, but thanks for being concerned about my loneliness.

  48. CaptainVideo Says:

"Not the right guy I’m afraid."

Wesley Clark defeated the Serbs without a single U.S. combat casualty. Definitely the right guy.

"That sounds like a pretty weak General to me."

He sounds weak to you because you are not a member of the reality based community, but, rather, an inhabitant of Bush's bubble of delusion.

  49. Mr T Says:

Let's be clear and discuss facts . . please. After 9/11 the US position stated by GWB was that we will go after terrorists and those who sponsor terrorists and states who harbor terrorists. That's why we're in Iraq. Perhaps you have some redeeming thoughts on how Sadamm was misunderstood or how he really wasn't a state sponsor of terrorism. This world isn't a Disney movie.

  50. Starve-A-Bush_Feed-A-Beaver Says:

Petraeus seems to have a consistent track record of being a political player, in addition to being a military man.

Petraeus wrote an op ed on the eve of the 2004 Presidential election, in which he promoted the idea that Bush's war in Iraq was making great progress.

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A49283-2004Sep25.html

We know that Petraeus also recently introduced himself in the Australian national election by giving an exclusive interview in an effort to prop up the campaign of the conservative Prime Minister John Howard.

Now he's choosing political sides and going on Fox News for an exclusive interview. Petraeus may be a highly intelligent military officer, but he's apparently also a political operative.

  51. CaptainVideo Says:

"So is there anything Petraus can announce/report that might be credible?"

If what he said was consitent with the report of the Government Accountablility Office, that would be considered credible.

If he admitted that he was wrong when he said in 2004 that things were improving in Iraq, that would be considered credible.

If he admitted that he had been working with the Bush adminstration's people in selling this war, that would be considered credible.

According to that line of reasoning we should have attacked Saudi Arabia. Not a single on of the 9/11 terrorists was from Iraq, most were from Saudi Arabia.

Saddam and AlQuaida were enemies. According to Al Quaida, Saddam and his secular regieme were infidels and Saddam saw Al Quaida a threat to his rule. Therefore, if anything, we should have supported Saddam again. The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

If it happens in the first several years, I will blame Bush for failing to concentrate the U.S. effort to fight the Al Quaida terrorists and diverting most of our resources to an unprovoked war of agression against a country that was not serious threat to us. Thereby he made it possible for Al Quaida and its sympathisers to become powerful and well entrenched.

If it happens after several years, the responsiblility will be shared between them. But it will take a Democratic president a long time to undo the damage to our national security that Bush has done.

First of all, what does "get attacked against by terrorists" mean. If you mean if we get attacked by terrorists, the blame will lie on who missed the intelligence that said the attack would take place, like Bush did with 911. If we have a Democratic President who received a PDB saying Osama Bin Laden determined to strike in America, using airplanes, and that Democratic President stays on vacation and does nothing about the PDB, then I certainly will blame the Democratic President.

Perhaps if Bush had listened to the Generals on the ground like he said he did, we wouldn't be in this mess right now. But, if a General tells Bush something that Bush doesn't want to hear, that general is fired or is made to retire. I listen to the retired generals because they are now free to speak the truth. And the retired generals are saying that there is no way we can achieve a military victory in Iraq. They all say the only way to extract ourselves from Iraq is through negotiating a political resolution.

I don't think the Shiites are going to sit by, and watch Bush arm, train, and finance their Sunni enemies.... Sadaams' former power base. At least the sunni's are accepting the duffle bags full of ca$h, and not blowing up our troops.

Jesus Christ taught hate, death and destruction? There are a lot of true Christians out there who would disagree with you about that.

Ah, the PAGAN religion, that has multiple deities while falsely claiming to worship only one god?

BAHAHA, yeah, there’s NOTHING KKK about THAT STATEMENT!!!! And we all know what a WARRIOR jesus was, sorry Pee Stain, but Mohammad was the WARRIOR PROPHET, not JESUS - you’re FIGHTING YOUR OWN RELGION!!!!

    Comment by michaelIsRetarded — September 9, 2007

Amazing. I AM a Christian, and I find it AMAZING that this person thinks they are following the Word of Jesus and God.

Again, George W. Bush ALSO thinks that he follows the "word" and is a "christian".

    Sorry, Haaliburzton!!

FAUXNOIZ is not a news enterprise...it is a propaganda enterprise.

  106. jack moss Says:

It's fun to watch you nutroots pull your hair out. By the way you had no problem with your democratic candidates when they would ONLY appear on network safe debates like on MSNBC or CBS.

    Deal with it, no retreat.

Quoting or pointing to "newshounds" (Noisehounds) is a bit of a stretch.

    Zero credibility!

  108. ipod Says:

is anyone really surprised that petraeus will be on fox talking up the success of the war? - we all know what will happen - we won't hear the word 'retreat' that's for sure.
and does anybody else find it unsettling that they have chosen to exploit 9/11 and make an announcement this tuesday? - just hope coultergeist calls them on this like she did with the widows and families of the victims

He is still a bootlicking liar or Dubya wouldn't have him. The war is a failure and history will prove all you morons out. Go figure 72% disagree with you non-sense and 28% remains the base...I guess you can safely say we have 28% of Americans who are as dumb as road gravel...home schooling in the trailer parks is not what it is supposed to be. With all the evidence in the past six years, those who still stand behind this failed policy must be bottom feeding, knuckle dragging, troglodytes.

Gee, jerk moss, "nutroots"... WTF does THAT mean? Please define, clearly, so we have some idea of what you ranting about. Otherwise, you just come across as an incoherent buffoon.

You pathetic fool. The US military is not supposed to be a partisan institution, the political parties are by their very nature.

The shame. I am forever glad I don't hold a US passport.

Generals don't have to worry about approval ratings or elections. Unfortunately: 1) they oftentimes forget that taxpayers pay their salary, 2) they grab their ankles for politicians if they think it's a good career move, 3) most are rightwinger millionaire Republicans who don't have the average Joe's best interests in mind. They'd rather switch than fight

  115. daveinboca Says:

Bow-wow Blue Dog appears unable to process reality enough figure out that ankle-grabbers and ass-kissers are a lefty phenomenon that keeps the TV & NYT-style gibberish he mindlessly gobbles up coming in a steady stream. You have to suck up to make it as a liberal. I worked for two Dem presidential candidates as National Staff & saw the sycophantic wide-stance a lot of lefties offered to their higher ups.

I'm sure Bow-Wow BD is projecting from his own squalid sordid little career path & his sad failure as everyone's butt-boy.

  116. dude1394 Says:

Quite the echo chamber in here. I'm impressed with all the well-thought out opinions.

I would, but, like Dubya, he is in a bubble, so he would only be exposed to sheeple who they want to have him hear. Like all the Town Hall meetings where Dubya has the attendees screened.

Anyone else notice this; Petraeus sounds like Betray us?
A sure requirement for Bush cronies.

  122. J. L. Wood Says:

We've seen generals come & go...Franks...Pace...Abizaid...now Petraeus...all of them billed as 'brilliant commanders'...all of them put in to be 'the savior' of this debacle...all of them trying to make some sense of this mess in Iraq...all of them touting the Bush line to the public..and nothing changes..nothing improves...the numbers of our losses keeps going up....why in heavens name should we believe anything Petraeus says? When we have so MANY times heard that 'everything is going to be fine...just fine' and yet everything stays the same?

  123. tryingtobefair Says:

I can't believe all this before he has a chance to give his report. This is a great example of what the american people don't want. Are you rednecks or just looney?

  124. odconsult Says:

Anyone who thinks that Bush selected BetrayUs because of his military prowess alone rather than because he's a staunch executor of the whims of his commander in chief should get in touch with me. I've got some swamp property to sell you guaranteed to turn into the next Las Vegas any day.

  125. 12_Foxtrot Says:

Looks like we're gonna be in Iraq for a long time.

    It's Ok.

It takes a long time to win a long war.

    See y'all next Novembah, baby.

  126. Keith Says:

Wow! I can't believe Petraeus and Crocker would have the GALL to appear on the most watched, most talked about, news channel. And to be interviewed by the most experienced, most watched political reporter on cable! He's practically a beginner! What were they thinking? Brit Hume only has 35 years of experience! And 20 of them were at that vile, right wing, Murdoch machine, ABC News!

Unbelievable.... I thought that someone like General Petraeus would have known better.

  127. blogbob Says:

“[I]t is estimated that foreigners make up at least 70 percent of al Qaeda’s 1,000 to several thousand fighters. Other estimates suggest al Qaeda’s numbers around 850, about 3 to 5 percent of the Sunni insurgency.”

Right. And where do those foreign fighters come from? You guessed it, our loyal ally, Saudi Arabia ships all its dissidents to kill Americans up North. 15 of 19 hijackers also from our loyal ally. And their Foreign Minister can "summon" our Vice President like a loyal lapdog to deliver their message: "Pull out and we'll cut off your oil."

Our friend in the battle, Saudi Arabia.

  128. mighty aphrodite Says:

Saudi Arabia is NOT our ally. Unfortunately, thanks to the "tree huggers" and "granola gals", we are unable to tap America's natural resources until we can widely develop renewable energy. Saudi Arabia is a VENDOR of a necessary resource - PERIOD. In an effort to maintain their monarchy, they bow to the wishes of radical Islamic Wahabist mullahs.

I would like to see America develop an abundant resource so Middle Eastern sheiks can be returned to their rightful seats aboard camels.
