Brit Hume’s exclusive one hour interview

with Gen. David Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan Crocker proved Fox News to be an even friendlier forum than expected. Hume opened the interview by asking Petraeus to give a “synopsis” of his testimony before the House today. Petraeus then proceeded on an uninterrupted 16 minute soliloquy, turning the Fox News “interview” into a powerpoint presentation on national TV. While Petraeus was presenting his charts, a Fox chyron read “A briefing for America.” After taking a commercial break, Hume allowed Crocker to give his own 10 minute uninterrupted speech. Hume never asked a critical question of either Petraeus or Crocker.

Today was officially Hate Petraeus Day at this hate-site called Toilet Paper! This is about the umpteenth “article” manufactured by the defeatists, traitors, unAmericans and enemy-emboldeners at TP which derides Petraeus. The reaction by progtards against a noble, independent patriot like Petraeus, who’s only giving the facts as he sees them instead of being a “shill” for Bush, is utter treason and can be likened to vampires recoiling at the sight of the Cross or holy water. Not surprisingly, TP distorted the Brit Hume interview on FoxNews, where Petraeus and Crocker were asked critical questions in addition to getting a fair chance to present their outlook (this fair chance is derided by TP ideologues as the “uninterrupted monologue). Hume even went so far as to ask Petraeus about MoveOn’s hateful ad in the NYT today, totally disproving the progtarded myth that Hume asked softball questions. So long as Petraeus/Crocker say Bush’s surge is working, progtards will attack them.

  6. Erik says:

First of all, anyone to associated with Bush is probably not to be trusted. Do I really need to explain why?? Second, why do we think that military generals are such angelic, honest, and straightforward people? Petraeus especially has his own agenda–he helped plan the “surge”. General Westmoreland testified in 1967 saying the US was winning in Vietnam…1975 was when we were finally, completely gone from indochina.
    Powerpoints don’t impress me.

  7. Marco says:

I was reading up a bit on the Anbar Revenge Brigades, some 30,000 strong. The same number as the surge and the reduction. amazing.

The Anbar tribes have also taken an active role in fighting al Qaeda. In March, several tribes and Sunni insurgent groups formed the Anbar Revenge Brigades to hunt al Qaeda operatives in western Iraq. At the end of the summer, 25 of the 31 Anbar tribes banded together and created the Anbar Salvation Council to openly fight al Qaeda, and pledged “30,000 young men armed with assault rifles who were willing to confront and kill the insurgents and criminal gangs.

I’m always curious about this… the war with Iraq was based on faulty intel… even GWB has admitted that, though he won’t admit that it was “faulty” only because he limited the intel to that which met his objectives. But fault it was, so the a preemptive war was unnecessary because Saddam never posed a threat to the U.S. No way would America support a war simply because Saddam was a bad man, if you think that would fly you’re a moron. So the war was fault from the outset, hundreds of thousands have died needlessly, the U.S. has created more terrorists then there were before… and somehow you see leaving Iraq, the country that you were trying to save as “giving up”. You’ve been f*cking up until now, maybe leaving is the right thing to do. How many Iraqis have to tell you to leave before you’ll stop liberating them? Isn’t 70% enough? If you are doing this for the benefit of Iraq then there’s no giving up, just get the f*ck out and let them sort it out. GWB won’t do it because it would be admitting he’s a moron, it has nothing to do with defeat for America.

  36. ErikisAwesome says:

I think it’s telling that the last time a general testified and got this much attention was in 1967 when General Westmoreland testified saying that we were winning in Vietnam. We were completely out in 1975 with the Communists in control.

Already rumblings about such a career from right wing extremists. Considering the current crop they have to choose from a stinking pile of Dog Crap would be an improvement.

  49. paul says:

    Progressive logic.

In January, Petraeus openly supports the surge during his confirmation hearing. He is overwhelmingly confirmed by the Senate (81-0).

He leads the forces in Iraq to what even many democrats describe as significant progress.

He sits before congress and describes the progress (that many leading democrats also acknowledge).

For all that, he is labeled Betrayus, called a liar, and accused of carrying water for the Bush administration.

Won’t anyone here acknowledge, that if you don’t agree with the war (or the surge for that matter), that Petraeus doesn’t deserve the lambaste. He said what he was going to do. Got the go ahead from congress. Did what he said he was going to do, even by the admission of the opposition.

Is there one reasonable progressive here?

Here’s the difference between conservatives and progtards.

Conservatives listen to the generals in the field and THEN decide how the war is going.

Progtards decide they will dismiss WHATEVER the generals in the field have to say….Afterall, such information might not fit their pre-ordained “We Hate America” and “Poor Misguided AlQaeda”.

  126. Exley says:

#5, “Today was officially Hate Petraeus Day at” ThinkProgress…

Sadly, that is true…As an arm of the Hillary Clinton campaign, ThinkProgress has a vested interest in trying to smear Gen. Petraeus — a man who has given 35 years of his life to service of his country — because he is truthfully reporting the success of the surge. ThinkProgress is quite simply scared of Gen. Petraeus because they know he is a man with a reputation for honesty and decency and thus has enormous credibility with the American people and many members of Congress.

And, as tonight’s Washington Post reports, ThinkProgress and the other “anti-war” left were right to be scared of Petraeus’s stellar credentials and reputation for honesty, His testimony has helped stem the already faltering “surrender now” movement in Congress:

“Judging by the relatively mild congressional reaction in a joint hearing of the House Foreign Affairs and Armed Services Committees, Petraeus and Crocker may well succeed this week in deflecting Democratic demands to bring the troops home sooner rather than later.”

  130. mighty aphrodite says:

‘Well, it’s 9/11, time for the rightards everywhere to celebrate America’s defeat at the hands of George Bush and his buddy Bin laden. Time to remember the glory of an idiot fratboy failure sitting with The Pet Goat, then flying off in a panic around the country for the day, then making sure the Bin Laden family wasn’t interviewed by the evil FBI, as he cleared airspace for the Bin Laden family, the only flights allowed. Time to celebrate the massive incompetence of Rudy Mussolini as he saved 12 cents on communications equipment for first responders, sending hundreds to their deaths. Time to celebrate the deaths of 9 more American soldiers as the surge fails miserably and completely. Time to worship the medal-bedecked flunky that was Bush’s last resort, as he goes to the fascist news network and tells his lies with Powerpoint. time to celebrate bringing the troops home later rather than sooner, becasue the right wing hasn’t killed enough good American troops, nor slaughtered enough innocent Iraqi families. Time for rightards to put the flag and constitution away, and get the Sig Heil up and ready for Bushitler, the little dick-tater. Time to celebrate Hate America day, like little p said, only it;s the contards celebrating, and the wingnuts avoiding service, and the rightards spitting on the graves of the troops.

I saw the MoveOn full page ad in the NYT yesterday and read it with interest and then moved on…… It’s funny, now that I’ve read about the apoplectic reaction from the Republicans, how they still want 100% of the public megaphone 100% of the time. It took me about two seconds to read the ad, but even with FoxNews and their half and hour infomercial on supporting the surge, Republicans are still capable of whining. From my point of view, unless you live under a rock or live off your profits from the war, it’s clear that General Petraeus, like Colin Powell before him, and Gen. Westmoreland before him, bear fealty to the captains of industry and as such are willing to stretch the truth and varnish the negatives in order to achieve their goals of more spending and more young, dead Americans. The canard they present is that in order to make those lost lives worthy, they have to buy more bombs and guns and kill more young, and accuse those who object to this commercialization of war and death as UNPATRIOTIC!! Please — spare me. Signed: Disgusted
