Clarke: I’d rather kill myself than be Bush’s press secretary.

In Robert Draper’s new book Dead Certain, he writes that chief of staff Josh Bolten’s first choice to replace Scott McClellan as press secretary was Donald Rumsfeld’s former spokeswoman in the Pentagon, Torie Clarke. Clarke informed Bolten that she would “rather commit suicide” than take McClellan’s job. Bolten’s second choice, Tony Snow, was given the job despite the fact that he “botched his three run-throughs — failing to even recite the White House’s Iraq talking points.”

I find it hard to believe that being Bush’s press secretary would be worse than being Rumsfeld’s — in both cases, you would be required to parrot lunacy with a straight face and sell absurdity as if it made sense. My guess is that Torie Clarke had had enough of that working for Rummy and could not even fathom more of the same. Which goes to show that some people managed to emerge from the Bush crowd retaining their ability to think for themselves.

  2. FGF says:

But now it’s Dana Perino, who obviously was everyone’s first choice from the beginning. But seriously, Bolton must be very concerned about how well Perino will perform, her meek little presence being somewhat out of place in that crowd.

You would have to grow a brain first, before you could become a liberal. So don’t worry, you won’t ever have to kill yourself.

Yes, and look what taking that unhappy job did to his health.

  20. scooter says:

Torie Clarke wouldn’t lsast a week anyway. she’d be caught out in so much lying and spinning she’d end up working for Gonzales.

  21. Zappatero says:

see, it’s Tony Snow’s fault they lost the war. Preznit Bush is all-omnipotent!

It seems like Tony Snow was a quick learner. He became an absolute master of regurgitating the adminstration’s talking points.

  24. ronjazz says:

Well, to be perfectly clear, Bush had a great exit strategy for Viet Nam…

I heard Tony got the job because they wouldn’t have to close up the floor drain installed behind the podium to catch Scotty’s sweat.

Torie Clarke represents the worst of American Women (not hard to find; any American Woman will do).

Why the worst? Because she represents what American Women have become: a creature that’s taught from day one that instead of being feminine she needs to behave and act like a man.

American Women act & behave how they perceive men act and it’s terribly unattractive & they get it wrong.

Feminism is the cause of this.

Seriously, have you noticed how masculine American Women are these days?

    It’s disgusting!

    Enough of the social engineering.

America is simply a big social engineering experiment.

    Sickos!

Somebody sounds VERY threatened by intelligent women who can think and speak for themselves. What in the world are you afraid of?

  34. Buck Fush says:

Yes, FGF, it is generally a mud fight all the time, the repukian trolls state something off topic to take the thread off topic, then the Libs respond to the asshat, then the troll takes it lower and responds with more stupidity, then the Libs go berserk and respond in kind. Happens every day, all day long. Just read some of Mr. P’s or Dean CT’s comments and you will see what I mean. Stupid is as Stupid does.

  35. footsore says:

Tony Snow flunked the test three times and got the job anyway. Sounds like the Whitehouse is working just the way the RNC wants it to. Sweet Government jobs for the kiss asses and frat brothers. Isn’t America great?

I saw that. Explains why libs are so much more likely to absorb the garbage taught in philosophy classes and why they live in the land of make believe instead of the real world. ;)

  37. Keith says:

Torie Clarke was once the head of the D.C. PR firm that made up the story of the Iraqis throwing the babies out of the incubators in Kuwait. The false testimony to Congress of this fiction helped lead the country into Gulf War I.
