The chart Petraeus won’t show.
The AP reveals that a “briefing chart prepared by the Defense Intelligence Agency says what Gen. David Petraeus won’t. Insurgent attacks against Iraqi civilians, their security forces and U.S. troops remain high.” Most of the insurgent attacks in Iraq continue to be focused on U.S. forces, as the chart shows:
UPDATE: Petraeus will reportedly say he wants another six months.

Even the simultaneous bombing last month that killed hundreds wasn't counted.
They are making their own statistics show what they want them to show.
Bush can't get out of Iraq; Bush won't admit he is a failure; so everyone has to lie because they won't offend the petulant boy-king.
This just means that the surge has been protecting Iraqi civilians!
More proof that the current strategy is a success!!!

September 8, 2007 - March of the People walkers Mario Penalver, Elliott Nesch, and Gordy Heuer began the next leg of their journey in Beltsville on Saturday morning. The trio met up with Dan Morse from The Washington Post and a photographer, who followed them south on Route 1 in the blazing heat.
The journalists meticulously gathered information for a story to appear in Sunday’s issue of the paper (September 9 - Don’t Miss It!) and followed them for so long that the marchers had to help the two gentlemen flag down a ride back to their car.
We hope that act of kindness gives us an extra inch (or two) of publicity.
Don’t forget to hit the newsstands first thing tomorrow!

In fact, one of my biggest issues with the Iraq invasion - besides the lying - was that it took resources and focus away from Afghanistan and the hunt for Bin Laden. Thats not true, the Generals had asked for some 4-500,000 troops to secure the country. Rumsfeld and the think-tank brigade with their high tech 'Shock and Awe' plan thought it could be done with less. The fact is the 'few are needed' is not true, as YOU see today.
We dropped alot of muntions, Shock and Awe was heavy handed, with not enough boots on the ground.
They dont see their way of life as a failure, they have beed doing the same thing for a thousand years. America is a young upstart in their eyes.
First off, I am not talking about my wants, but how this wil probably play out. We will not be totally withdrawing from Iraq, as the bases, and US embassy are pretty much permanent, the bulk of the troops will likely redeploy to Kuwait and border areas, but this gets them out of the line of fire while the Iraiqs settle their differences. Maliki will probably be replaced at some point in the next 12-18 months. Hopefully they can hold onto Democracy and keep the Sharian law out of politics.
Afghanistan is back to its prewar strength, its they who give Osama the most likely ability to create terror camps and a saf Haven. The troops will probably pull back from Iraq first. Allowing the US to secure Afghanistan and clean up this mess create by the Chaos Hawks. While staying in a position to keep Iran at bay.
As well, it would help if people like Mr P, and the meida would stop making such racial remarks and stop calling IRAQ a war, it makes things more difficult when there is talk of World Wars and Caliphates. The war on terror will continue, no one disagrees with that and we should probably learn to separate the Freedom Operation from the GWOT and make the definitions clear. When I hear people talk of the WAR I dont know if there talking of securing Iraq or the GWOT.
This is speculation, my opinion, and how I think it may play out.

Well Ace I disagree. There is not much dissent, there are no large scale protests against the war. Another atack on America would not be good during this Aministration, it would make them look terribly weak on security. A nuke going off in America may cause marshall law but those two together would collapse the economy, and thats what is keeping us going at this point. It takes time to defund a war, as in Vietnam it took some time. Bush has said this will go for a decade and were 4 years into it.

1. Major General John Batiste
- Said Rumsfeld threatened to fire anyone who discussed conflicting views
- Retired to speak out against the occupation
- WSJ would not post insight from a TWO STAR general on the occupation
2. General Eric Shinseki - (4 star general for the military illiterate)
- suggested several hundred thousand troops necessary if we invaded Iraq
- ignored pre-invasion
3. LT. General Gregory Newbold - (3 stars)
- Retired in 2002 openly criticizing Donal Rumsfeld's plans fro invation
- Retired in protest
- suggested 500,000 troops necesary
- Wrote a very insightful TIME article "Why Iraq was a mistake"
4. Lt General Anthony Zinni
- Says it was a mistake to support Bush in 2000
- Supported Jim Webb in last election
- Presented plan about what was necessary to invade Iraq - was ignored
- Outlined 10 majore criticisms of the Iraq Invasion in May of 2004
5. Many retired Generals (8 I believe) wrote an open letter to the President about their concern about torture policy.
There are more, I am sure, but I don't have them all here. This is UNPRECIDENTED. Never before in the history of our country have so many of the TOP military spoken out against an administration. Although I will listen to the Patraeus report and weigh it on its merits, I have low expectations, because anyone being honest or saying what the administration does not want to hear is forced out or marginalized.
Let's not forget that these Generals were traditionally Republican - not to mention they have great combined combat experience. You can not accuse these men of "hating America" or "wanting the US to fail". When will people wake up?

The Dems control both houses. If everyone wants us out, then why doesn't the Democrat-controlled Congress just MOVE FORWARD (I know, I should have said "move on")?
The Dems should CUT FUNDING to the war. They have the power to do so.
If the public is against it, Bush veto-ing such measures will only skewer the Repubs in the next election, correct?
So the Dems either get what they want, or force Bush into actions that hurt his party.

The problem is that MY CONGRESS ISN'T DOING THEIR JOB. I can't walk in there and vote for them to end the funding - I have these idiots in Congress who are supposed to be doing it but are not.

And how about if you don't attribute the posts of other righties to me and I won't attribute the posts of other lefties to you. The last time I checked, one person acting inappropriately doesn't make it ok for others to do the same.
