A sharp, well-informed blogger like yourself should know that “offensive wars” were outlawed by the Neurenberg Tribunals many years ago. Blame American excepcionalism (we don’t obey international law unless it is to our advantage) for the present round of war. By the way, my favorite uncle was also on stage to invade Japan before Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He says that he was told that casualty figures would be in the thousands in order to take Japan. Does that justify an atomic bomb on a civilian population? I don’t know, but my uncle says it was a great idea!
