Former Solicitor General Ted Olson “has emerged as a top contender to replace” Alberto Gonzales. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) said today: “Ted Olson will not be confirmed.” “He’s a partisan, and the last thing we need as an attorney general is a partisan,” Reid explained. Democrats, including current Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-VT), indicated they would mount strong challenges to Olson if Bush nominates him. “He is certainly not a consensus nominee,” said Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY). “He has a very political background.”

Good bye Olson, thanks for playing.
September 12th, 2007 at 4:49 pmWhy isn’t the Senate saying, “Until you give us the documents about FISA and the other illegal activity, we’re not considering the new AG.”. . .?
If you want a new AG, give the Senate the documents.
September 12th, 2007 at 4:51 pm# 1. Good bye Olson, thanks for playing.

Oh …… and next time you come on stage, PULEEZE, lose that Wal-Mart rug on your dome! Not a good look, OK?
September 12th, 2007 at 4:51 pmActually the Democrats should announce that no AG will be approved until they have concluded the investigation into the firings of the US Attorneys. That way if Bush wants a new AG, he will have to cooperate with the investigation. If he doesn’t, then too bad, he just won’t get another AG until his term runs out.
September 12th, 2007 at 4:52 pmPatrick Fitzgerald would be a good choice.
September 12th, 2007 at 4:53 pmThe game the Administration is playing is “stall ball”. Harry, you and Congress need to institute a shot clock.
September 12th, 2007 at 4:53 pmSorry, but Dems like Reid will squawk about it, but in the end, it’ll be who Bush wants.
September 12th, 2007 at 4:53 pmUntil they actually back this up, by not letting it out of committee, I am not going to hold my breath and cheer.
September 12th, 2007 at 4:55 pmThere won’t be another AG.
Our great country will be AG-less until the next president.
September 12th, 2007 at 4:59 pmAnyone that GW wants in the AG job slot should not be considered, just look at his track record….not very good is it.
He is a Mob Boss trying to be King.
Impeachment is the cure.
September 12th, 2007 at 5:00 pmIf Olson’s so damn smart and judicious, how come he wears a polyester toupee that makes him look like a troll doll?
September 12th, 2007 at 5:03 pmHere we go again, the contentious candidate thrown out for consideration, to be batted down and rejected, only to be replaced by the more dangerous and crafty candidate who slips in over the holidays……….
September 12th, 2007 at 5:03 pmReid announcing he’s opposed to anything Bush does is so cliche and predictable that TP is contemptible for spreading this news like it’s something worthwhile. Reid is such a fanatical adversary that this imbecile would oppose the fashion in which Bush sits on the toilet if he could actually work that into Senate business. Reid and other Demoncrats have no licit reasons for opposing Olson based on his “political background” because the AG is a political role in that he’s a political appointee of the president. Reid is therefore unmasked as being nothing but an OBSTRUCTIONIST. Limp-wristed progs should remember what happened to the last Dem leader who was successfully branded an obstructionist: it was Tom Daschle, and he lost in 2004 because Americans dislike a-holes like Reid/Daschle for their constant obstructionism, as opposed to getting things done in Congress. Lastly, Dems are also discredited for opposing Olson because they’re really opposing ANY CONSERVATIVE Bush nominates since Dems are partisan psychos.
September 12th, 2007 at 5:05 pmbush will end up “recess” appointing him over the hollidays. Merry Xmas, America.

Yada, yada, yada….moron. You are an idiot, hahahaha-haha.
September 12th, 2007 at 5:13 pmThe Democrats will do what they’ve become pathetically good at doing. They’ll be full of sound and fury, ventiing righteous indignation. Then the Administration or the Republicans will say they’re Aiding Terror and GASP! The Democrats will cave, yet again. Until and unless the Democrats finally realise that they can actually Do Something, we’re doomed to watch them roll over and play dead, to the detriment of the nation.
September 12th, 2007 at 5:13 pmImpeach Bush and Cheney and Save the Constitution!
If I’m not mistaken, any Presidential appointee that gets a recess appointment also doesn’t get paid for his work. That’s why U.N. Ambassador John Bolten left his job. Bush COULD OF recess appointed Bolten a second time since the Dem-controlled Senate wasn’t going to approve of him, but I guess Bolten decided he didn’t want to work for free.
A recess appointment is hard for a person to accept, so maybe Harry Reid does have the upper hand.
September 12th, 2007 at 5:18 pmOlsen is a piece of sh*t, but will get the job anyway. Think ‘recess appointment’ here.

Yup. that is the pattern, good insight.
September 12th, 2007 at 5:29 pmY’know… this troll with 50 letters or more on it’s nickname, posts on every single thread, drops his stupid talking points and insults, and regular posters keep responding to him. It’s useless to reply to whatever it writes.
Unlike Jake D, in whose defense I’ll say that at least he responds to some of what’s replied to him, this other troll is just a drive-by idiot.
Let’s just ignore it.
September 12th, 2007 at 5:32 pmAND when America is attacked, we will point to this partisan attack by Democrats.
It’s advise and consent people. If Olson has 50 votes, let it go. Do not make things harder on yourselves than it has to be. Bush is President. The left-wing hate/slime machine is NOT.
September 12th, 2007 at 5:32 pmRudy: Hillary is spewing venom.
Fred: Does Hillary remember Charlie Trie?
Watch Hitler’s girlfriend go down in flames. Time to attack the little babykilling LIAR !!!!!
September 12th, 2007 at 5:33 pmThat Bush might tap the controversial Olson, a key player in the 1990’s Arkansas project targeting Bill Clinton and the man who helped win the 2000 Florida recount at the Supreme Court, should come as no surprise. It’s just another part of George W. Bush’s strategy of maximum confrontation guiding the remainder of his presidency.
For the details, see:
September 12th, 2007 at 5:36 pm“Ted Olson and Bush’s Maximum Confrontation Strategy.â€
Ted Olson is the definition of partisan. Thanks to AngryOne for pointing out Olson’s part in the Arkansas Project. Ted Olson is one of the reasons why republicans just wouldn’t cooperate with Clinton in Clinton’s war on terrorism. It’s the height of irony that his wife was killed on 9-11. Nominating Ted Olson would be like sticking his thumb in the eye of the democrats, so that’s exactly what this divider of a president will do.
September 12th, 2007 at 5:43 pmHere is one thing I don’t get. Hillary whacked vince because they were lovers right? But Hillary is supposed to be gay? How does that work? Or is Hillary Bi?
September 12th, 2007 at 5:48 pmStrange, crazy troll: “Time to attack the little babykilling LIAR !!!”
Spot quiz: is this troll suggesting we attack Rudy or Fred?
September 12th, 2007 at 5:50 pmIf Bush wanted to get an attorney general confirmed, he would nominate John Danforth.
But that’s not what he’s about. He’s about stupid playground bully games. So he’s gonna nominate someone divisive and unacceptable and snicker behind his hand, then whine about the Democrats “playing politics”.
September 12th, 2007 at 6:08 pmIt is about time Sen. Reid. Now stick to your guns and do not allow any more partisan hacks into the AG’s office. There can be no compromise on Olson. He is in Georgie’s pocket and the country cannot afford an Alberto part Two.

Great. bush will nominate and the ass-kissing senate will confirm olsen.
olsen’s a neo-Con. He was willing to give up his wife for the great cause without so much as a call for an investigation or demand for justice.
September 12th, 2007 at 6:32 pmwell liberals dont like olson because his wife died on 9/11, which means he was in on the ‘inside job’. liberals eat their young.
September 12th, 2007 at 6:36 pmTed Olson is just another GOP hack and is a traitor to American democracy as evidenced by his actions in the 2000 GOP overthrow of counting the Florida votes in the Presidential Election.

September 12th, 2007 at 8:23 pmI complained to the U.S. Senate Ethics Committee
September 12th, 2007 at 9:05 pmin the form of a question:
did U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy
violate ethics
by taking campaign donations in 2003
from my opposing
attorneys in 2000 litigation
while I was his opposing candidate in 2004 for
U.S. Senate (I was one of 6 candidates for U.S. Senator for Vermont
in 2004 and came in 3rd) ? ? ?
And the general counsel for the U.S. Senate Ethics Committee
wrote me a letter
and stated that I had not proven that
U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy had taken campaign donations
from my opposing attorneys (year 2000 litigation)
and I had,
and the donations were given in 2003,
from anti-trust attorney Wayne Cross for Dewey Ballantine
and Stuart Hirschfield for Dewey Ballantine
(Ericson v. In re IDC)
and Wayne Cross and Stuart Hirshfield gave the donations
to Dewey Ballantine PAC which gave them to U.S. Senator
Patrick Leahy.
It was on the http://www.fec.gov website
and the litigation is on public record and the U.S. Supreme Court
website,
so obviously I proved that he had accepted donations.
So, is the general counsel for the U.S. Senate Ethics Committee
corrupt??????????
Not only that,
but there’s more!!!!!
I don’t see where in HOLY HELL
U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy has
any right to judge ANYONE
on ethical behaviour.
That’s just my personal opinion.
Taking money from my opposing attorneys,
in my opinion,
is equivalent to supporting domestic terrorism.
The litigation was all about how the movie
industry (an industry which supports U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy)
gets away with assaulting and battering and blasting
non-union movie extras
working on union movies
with CONCEALED MILITARY HIGH EXPLOSIVES
PETN (plastic high explosive) and Lead Azide and Lead Styphnate
under the guise of
“special effects”.
In my opinion this is domestic terrorism.
I firmly believe that U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy did very, very
wrong to accept campaign donations from attorneys who
succeeded in convincing the courts that it is normal
workers’ comp. jurisdiction to assault and batter and blast
non-union movie extras.
I’m a woman
and I don’t like being treated that way.
Cris Ericson http://crisericson.com
With a strong statement like that from Reid, that means he will get a few stern looks during his confirmation hearing and then they will vote for him just like Gonzo.

what a stupid comment- do you really think clinton didnt get a left winger to run his offices- if the AG was left wing you guys would have no proble with that, but doesnt that make you all hypocrites?
September 13th, 2007 at 12:22 amAND when America is attacked, we will point to this partisan attack by Democrats.
And when America is attacked, we will point to the President who failed to protect us. We will point to the president who has single-handedly produced thousands of more people who hate us, and many with just cause. I would hate this country if Bush’s vanity war had killed my children calling them collateral damage.

Good for you to remind everyone that Ann Coulter is the equivalent of Hitler’s girlfriend!
September 13th, 2007 at 7:35 amI don’t see where in HOLY HELL U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy has any right to judge ANYONE on ethical behaviour.
I don’t see where in any reality-based discussion anyone should even consider the opinion of any Republican’t about ethics, morality, or honor. It’s like hearing Jeffrey Dahmer opine on the evils of cannibalism (when someone else does it).
And, seriously - recess appointments? Wasn’t there already a strategy put forth to counter this sort of crap? Something about re-opening things often enough that there would in effect be no recess? I personally think that, based on the lack of ethics and the hyperpartisanship that the current crop of Republican’ts have been engaging in, eliminating the recess (and thus the recess appointments) should be proactively done whether or not it appears that Putsch will be sneaking in recess appointments. Along with a sound bite along the lines of “Republican’ts said they weren’t going to make any recess appointments. But they’ve lied so much, and so often, that we can’t trust their word any more.”
September 13th, 2007 at 7:59 amBush chooses always extremists. How come?
September 13th, 2007 at 8:09 amNonetheless he wants to introduce democracy into Iraq. What a joke.
I’m afraid that all of this will be covered up with a Nazi air show over Iran. God I hate the filth who think they own this country.
September 13th, 2007 at 10:37 am# 13 would do well to remember that having been labeled an “obstructionist” got both Senators Leahy and Daschle attempted murder-”Anthrax attacks”, as well as the sock puppet media-who were considered “too biased” to consider that maybe the emperor had no clothes. Olson will have to get by Leahy first. Olson will not get past Leahy without discussing the Arkansas Project or Bush V Gore. If he gets in at all, the douchebag will come in through the backdoor and the basement with a recess appointment. Countdown to the end of fascism, little boots’ days are numbered. All he has left is sending more troops to die for a lost cause so that he doesn’t have to face his own failure.
