CentCom Chief Fallon: Petraeus Is ‘An Ass-Kissing, Little Chickensh*t,’ ‘I Hate People Like That’

fallon1231.gifDuring the Iraq war, the Central Command (CENTCOM) head — who leads U.S. operations in the entire Middle East region — and the Multinational Force Commander (MNF) have regularly testified together about the course of the war in Iraq.

Former-MNF Commander Gen. George Casey and his CENTCOM Commander Gen. John Abizaid constantly briefed Congress about the situation in Iraq and its regional effects. In at least four public hearings after Casey took office in 2004, the pair testified together:

Senate Armed Services [6/23/05]

House Armed Services [6/23/05]

House Armed Services [9/29/05]

Senate Armed Services [9/29/05]

In January, President Bush replaced Abizaid and Casey, who were “surge” skeptics, with Adm. William Fallon and Gen. David Petraeus. This week, Petraeus — in the first public hearings since taking on his new role — delivered his Iraq assessment to great media fanfare. But where was his boss, Admiral Fallon? Inter-Press Service suggests animosity between the two might be one reason for Fallon’s absence:

Fallon told Petraeus [in March] that he considered him to be “an ass-kissing little chickensh*t” and added, “I hate people like that”, the sources say. That remark reportedly came after Petraeus began the meeting by making remarks that Fallon interpreted as trying to ingratiate himself with a superior.

The Washington Post reported this weekend that there is an internal military debate, described as “Armageddon,” brewing between Petraeus and Fallon because the two men have “profoundly different views of the U.S. role in Iraq.”

Sen. Jim Webb (D-VA) announced today that he will be asking Sen. Carl Levin (D-MI) to call Fallon to testify on “his views on the region.” Webb decried the lack of independence in Petraeus’s reporting, observing that there are “a lot of control factors going on that haven’t been visible” from the one-sided testimony of Petraeus:

WEBB: [T]here’s something of a kabuki going on right now. You know, the Petraeus report was brought in. On the one hand they’re calling it independent; on the other, General Petraeus and Ambassador Crocker, from my understanding, gave a one-hour exclusive interview to Fox News after their first day of testimony. [...]

So it was a very narrow and focused two days of hearings…we need to hear from people like Admiral Fallon and others to get a sense of how the region is in play. … He was, by many accounts, questioning keeping these troop levels this high. [...]

So I’m going to be recommending to Senator Levin that we get Admiral Fallon in and get his views on the region.

Digg It!

    Hahahaha!!! He's right!

Looks like Bush, who fired multiple Generals who publicly disagreed with the official Bush & Co. policies, stopped at least one General short on his firings.

Yowza! Military leaders need to do what's good for their country and stand up to their F*ck-up-in-Chief.

  7. profmarcus Says:

damn straight...! nobody was thinking clearly or fallon would have already been scheduled to testify instead of simply doing it bush's way... but, hey...! it's our roll-over congress, so i guess it's par for course...

And, yes, I DO take it personally

I don't think we should read into this too much. After all every member of the Bush Admin is “an ass-kissing little chickensh*t”

    Fallon must testify.

  12. IsaythatPROGSARECHICKENS*ITS Says:

Judging by the, as usual, ferociously radicalized and thoughtless belief of these easily fooled progtards, truth and verification is not something that progtards put a lot of value in. Despite the fact that Toilet Paper misappropriates this alleged quote of Fallon's from an unreliable source (guess what idiot progs? It's ANOTHER UNNAMED, Pentagon source!), the emotionally unstable progs here are insanely misbehaving like Fallon actually derided Petraeus! Of course Fallon didn't deride Patreus because if he really did, the source would've been named in the article. This article from IPS was flagrantly concocted by an anti-surge leftard who made up the whole thing including the unnamed source. Fallon is a high-ranking general; there's no way he would be unintelligent enough to use the swear word and immature word "chicken*hit" to attack anyone. This article was also obviously manufactured to agree with the progressives' preconceived bias that Petraeus had no independence from Bush in testimony.

  14. Menehune Says:

Anyhow...just because Fallon might have spoken the truth ONCE, it doesn't mean he will again. There's no telling what the terrorist survellience program has turned up on the Admiral in the meantime.

Elitist would be why. Did you ever wonder about her constant harping on public education? The calls for the rich to be left alone, etc. It is all elitism, and bush is a great fit. Dude has screwed up everything he has ever done, but comes from a respected and moneyed family. That is all the qualifications she needs. That and she is off her rocker.

  101. Gen. Betrayus Says:

Putting all of our eggs in one basket is a sound military strategy, ain't that right Dummya?

  102. Arthur C. Says:

Remember when Cheney said Iraqi oil revenues would pay for the invasion? When Rummy said the Us would be in Iraq for weeks, not months? When Bush said the war was over? No wonder a majority of Americans think Republic leaders are lying sacks of of bullchip.

Rightwingers don't have what it takes to win a war: regular contact with reality. They live in Fantasyland.

  104. Badger Says:

Two of the Major strategic mistakes of Bremmers CPA were: debathifcation of the Sunni's and dismantiling the Iraqi Army. The result....most of American casualties were the result of Sunni Insurgents.
Gen. Petraeus has worked to reverse these disasterous policy errors.
The result: Sunni's are not blowing our troops up, and we are providing them with duffle bags full of cash.
AND: Bush can finally point to some good news in Iraq. Too bad it's four years later and thousands have died.

  105. Eargy Earp Says:

  107. hellinabucket Says:

Krazny, you may be right. The problem I have with this administration is that they aren't following the "Golden Rules" of a republican (fiscally responsible, less govt) but have been able to sell the republican lot that all of this conflict is neccessary. They are blowing thru money and have created a bloated govt. while not proving this conflict is essential and using fear instead of facts to push even farther.

I believe that many republicans can't come to the realization that they have been lied to and their party has been hijacked.

  125. Uncle Ho Says:

Another Chris; When the big brass pulls out all the tons of graphs and charts, look out. Westmoreland did the same thing in 1967 to "prove" we were winning the war by every measurement. 138. The Oracle Says:

    Gen. Petraeus is a brown-noser.

That's the term we used when I served in the military to describe anyone sucking up just for the sake of sucking up to a superior.

In Petraeus' case, he's sucking up, brown-nose and all, to Bush and Cheney, one of whom went AWOL from the Texas Air National Guard while the other got five deferments to get out of going to Vietnam.

I actually feel sorry for Gen. Petraeus. Other generals have stood up to Bush and Cheney (and Rumsfeld prior to Gates) and have paid the price for their courage and the honoring of both their oath to our country and the Military Code of Conduct. Gen. Petraeus has chosen to do the opposite. Instead of standing up to these Republican criminals, he's chosen the suck-up route instead...which is a grave disservice to our nation and the soldiers who are serving under him.

  139. Marie Says:

Oracle, I am convinced that Petraeus has made a Faust-like deal with the devil (Bush).
He will suffer the pangs of his conscience for the rest of his days. He is too intelligent not to know what he has done to those who serve under him, not to mention the nation.

Joe Klein said today that immediately after Petraeus' infamous reply yesterday, they took a break, and the general got a phone call from the White House. As soon as they returned, he went back to his previous answer in an effort to square it with the boss' orders.

He spent today trying to wriggle out of his words from yesterday that were off script.
The commander in chief wants to listen to his general -- the one he hasn't fired for being too truthful -- and when he goes off message, there is hell to pay. So much for leadership from both men.

  140. DitchMitchKY Says:

Our Boy George overplayed his medal-laden Gen. BetrayUs. BeT was so pathetic as he presented his White House Report that the normally compliant Demo Senators became aggravated. Note to George and Karl: Gen. BeT isn't even a very good shill.

Webb is exactly correct. We need to hear from Generals who will present reports not written in the WH. Call them to testify. Call Iraqis who have been interviewed by NPR. Call the surviving soldiers who wrote the NYTimes Op-Ed. No more flunkies and shills.

"IPS tries to reach people excluded or marginalised by the process of globalisation, notably in countries in Africa, Asia-Pacific and Latin America. The question of exclusion is highlighted, explained and investigated in IPS stories...Through its news service, IPS offers stories containing a variety of sources that provide all relevant sides of an issue, with a unique editorial angle: from the perspective of civil society and of the South ... IPS does not discriminate against sources, but is committed to mainstreaming gender perspectives in its coverage."

    #137, Daultless Diana:

Diana, please, there you go comparing WWII with the illegal invasion of the sovereign nation of Iraq which posed no threat to us. Let's take a look at that, shall we?

You are probably one of the chicken littles who said, "Well look at Hitler before WWII! Look at all the damage he did and all the countries he invaded before anyone lifted a finger to stop him! Sadaam was doing the same thing, we had to stop him!!" Now, here's the proof that this line of "reasoning" is simply WRONG.

    1. Sadaam was not a threat to the U.S. Our spy satellites had him totally mapped out and monitored, our air defenses would constantly and consistently destroy any new radar installations or anti aircraft batteries that he deployed and destroy any aircraft that violated the no-fly zones. Sadaam was totally OWNED by the U.S. military; in NO WAY was he like Hitler in that he was a danger to the surrounding countries OR the U.S. THIS IS AND WAS COMMON KNOWLEDGE.

    2. Even though Sadaam proved to be NO THREAT TO ANYONE, we went in and deposed him anyway, so there you go, he WAS REMOVED FROM POWER. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED. So why did the U.S. remain? OIL, which was one of the REAL reasons the U.S. invaded in the first place, along with dominance of the region to help shore up the dollar, appease Israel and to be next door to Saudi Arabia and also protect that beautiful OIL as well.

Now, if you are going to use that tired, worn out "front on global terrorism" bit, sorry, but you then have to look at the U.S. as the terrorists, as our actions have caused up to 600,000 Iraqi deaths ON IRAQI SOIL which kinda makes the U.S. the aggressor, and PALES in comparison to 3700 American deaths, does it not? WHO ARE THE REAL TERRORISTS? It pains me to say this as an American who loves his country, but under our "leader" WHO IS MUCH MORE LIKE HITLER THAN SADAAM EVER WAS, I'm afraid it is the naked truth.

With that said, I'm wondering if you are a fundamentalist who believes that Islam is "The Enemy", and the war in Iraq is a "Crusade." After all, that IS what fearless george called it, and after all he IS a good Christian, right? Right. Anyone who thinks dubya is a good Christian is not reading their bible and and is hoplessly LOST AND WILL BURN IN HELL ALONG WITH THE CHARLATANS BU$H, ROBERTSON, ROBERTS, (Fallwell is already there), ETAL.

However they are to be pitied as opposed to castigated for their beliefs. After all they have been pablum fed by the likes of the NY Times, Blumenthal, Kerry, Kennedy, Pelosi, The Boston Globe, Seattle Post, Sarasota H/T (no wait-that is part of the NY Times), Colmes, The Washington Post and others, who are too numerous to mention. Well, hopefully Patraeus can convince Congress to keep the Army in Iraq and maybe even attack Iran, so that the US Army can be destroyed utterly and so that the US Government will go bankrupt and be unable to pay the mercenaries that keep justice at bay.

The US Army is a criminal organization that engages in torture, murder and rape as a matter of policy. Like their SS forebears, they should be extermined with extreme prejudice.

As for the US Government, they don't even measure up to the Army's standards or morality and are even less valuable. The sooner they are dead, the sooner the rest of the world can breathe easily and look forward to a bright future.

  173. Feral Gornard Says:

To PAO ( Public Affairs Officer) Centcom

    Dear Sirs;

I am writing in the hope that you will kindly forward or convey my inquiry to Admiral Fallon. So that he can seek, at his discretion, to either dispel and or confirm a commentary attributed to him regarding General Petraeus.

A commentary tbeing used as an Ideological attack tool to deflect the public outrage as to the attacks by non-politicians on the General, our mission, our troops and our commanders in Iraq and in the greater Terrorist's War on America.

I have no affiliation remotely with any organization and or political group and am only responding in anger as a former Marine and disabled Vietnam Veteran, as is the Admiral.

I have first hand experience with our own people's personal attacks on us in the military using misinformation and myths in a "baby killer intellect" merely to prove some ideologues convenient truths and excuses for why attacks on us in the military where then as they are now, appropriate and deserving.

We lost the war of American hearts and minds, then in Vietnam, as now, by not showing dishonest misinformation as the convenient truths and myths they were and are, when it was and is absolutely provable that what is and or was being said and or spread as absolute fact, was, in fact, false.

The quote that is being used all over the extensive and wide MoveOn.org internet network and now in the main stream media, even at Fox news, as an absolute truth attributed to the Admiral, is, in my humble opinion, an effort to deflect the outrage of criticism about these personal attacks on the General. This is only the first salvo in a growing trend of American on American attacks on our troops as we who served in Vietnam are well aware.

The unnamed source, implied, as if in the Military and or present with the General and Admiral upon their first meetings and his taking over CENTCOM, is quoted as a defense for the attacks on the General, as if the Admiral is in some way agreeable with them.

"In sharp contrast to the lionization of Gen. David Petraeus by members of the U.S. Congress during his testimony this week, Petraeus's superior, Admiral William Fallon, chief of the Central Command (CENTCOM), derided Petraeus as a sycophant during their first meeting in Baghdad last March, according to Pentagon sources familiar with reports of the meeting."
Fallon told Petraeus that he considered him to be "an ass-kissing little chickenshit" and added, "I hate people like that", the sources say.

That remark reportedly came after Petraeus began the meeting by making remarks that Fallon interpreted as trying to ingratiate himself with a superior."

I seek nothing nor even a response. Yes, I know the Admiral and our Military has issues that are more important on their plate than this. Yet, if this is provable as an untrue commentary used as a lie, to once again attack, those who put the mission above all. I implore the Admiral to consider that his mission, as, I am cinfident, he is well aware, is as much about the military component, with important components of some importance as to the Iraqi and Afghani hearts and minds.

Yet, is it not equally and even more importantly, about the hearts and minds of Americans?

Is it not equally important to focus as much on correcting harmful misinformation, as it is to inform, with and, only with, the truth in dutiful honor and integrity? That common valor, which is at the Corp of our Military and its hollowed honored traditions of winning, in the right way, for right reasons, giving no advantage to our enemies and or those who would, in falsity, have our missions fail. We have already paid for a fair chance at success dearly in hollowed blood, treasure and, perhaps, in the very destiny of our nation's future.

Do deceptions and misinformation that harm our efforts not deserve an effective response if it is truthfully and honestly available.

    Respectfully,

    Dear Sirs;

I am writing in hope that you will remove General Petraeus from his post, because he is an ass-kissing little chickenshit.

    Respectfully,

This is the same Fallon who, when a Chinese sub surfaced within the security zone of a US carrier last year, kowtowed to Beijing muttering "We knew you were there, we just didn't want to create an international incident." What a putz.

How North Vietnam Won The War
Bui Tin Interviewed by Stephen Young

    http://www.viet-myths.net/buitin.htm

What did the North Vietnamese leadership think of the American antiwar movement? What was the purpose of the Tet Offensive? How could the U.S. have been more successful in fighting the Vietnam War? Bui Tin, a former colonel in the North Vietnamese army, answers these questions in the following excerpts from an interview conducted by Stephen Young, a Minnesota attorney and human-rights activist [in The Wall Street Journal, 3 August 1995]. Bui Tin, who served on the general staff of North Vietnam's army, received the unconditional surrender of South Vietnam on April 30, 1975. He later became editor of the People's Daily, the official newspaper of Vietnam. He now lives in Paris, where he immigrated after becoming disillusioned with the fruits of Vietnamese communism.

Question: How did Hanoi intend to defeat the Americans?

Answer: By fighting a long war which would break their will to help South Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh said,
"We don't need to win military victories, we only need to hit them until they give up and get out."

Q: Was the American antiwar movement important to Hanoi's victory?
A: It was essential to our strategy....

Wow, check-out "Winghunter's comment 179. That name should be "Wingnut". He's still fighting to win the war in Vietnam by drawing parallels to Iraq.

60,000+/- American lives sacrificed to another nation's civil war weren't enough for some folks I guess. Sure, we could have won the war in Vietnam ... by never getting involved in the first place. There wouldn't have been or be anti-war movements if there were a justifiable and declared war.

Wingnut's whole premise can be challenged by asking him/her to tell us about the "Domino Theory" lie. Now there IS a parallel. Today's mantra is "fight 'em over there so we don't have to fight 'em over here". That is just as big a LIE as "the Domino Theory" was back-in-the-day. Both a total crock coined by cowards, for cowards.

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public."
-- Republican President Theodore 'Teddy' Roosevelt

All the hub-bub about the MoveOn.org Ad is political gamesmanship. If is correct to criticize the Commander-in-Chief, as Teddy said, then what makes mere Generals immune?

Anyone who is so naive as think that Petraeus can provide a totally objective report on Iraq when his political Commander-in-Chief demands something else, is an idiot.

The "troops" and military men and women to be supported are the 19, 20 and 22 year-olds doing the actual fighting and dying; the buck-Privates, the Corporals and the Sergeants; the Airman First Class, the Ensigns, etc. THOSE are the military which should remain immune to criticisms. But, the career officers who have obvious post-military political aspirations will forever be fair game, like it or not.

The MoveOn.org Ad was not disgusting; what is disgusting are the hypocrites who TALK about supporting the troops but who FAIL to do their own duty to protect them by doing the right things politically, and by failing to support the causes our military fights and dies to protect, such as freedom of speech.

Petraeus has chosen ... volunteered himself to be one of Bush's pawns/puppets. He made the choice, so there is no apology necessary for criticizing his performance.
