"To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public."
-- Republican President Theodore 'Teddy' Roosevelt

All the hub-bub about the MoveOn.org Ad is political gamesmanship. If is correct to criticize the Commander-in-Chief, as Teddy said, then what makes mere Generals immune?

Anyone who is so naive as think that Petraeus can provide a totally objective report on Iraq when his political Commander-in-Chief demands something else, is an idiot.

The "troops" and military men and women to be supported are the 19, 20 and 22 year-olds doing the actual fighting and dying; the buck-Privates, the Corporals and the Sergeants; the Airman First Class, the Ensigns, etc. THOSE are the military which should remain immune to criticisms. But, the career officers who have obvious post-military political aspirations will forever be fair game, like it or not.

The MoveOn.org Ad was not disgusting; what is disgusting are the hypocrites who TALK about supporting the troops but who FAIL to do their own duty to protect them by doing the right things politically, and by failing to support the causes our military fights and dies to protect, such as freedom of speech.

Petraeus has chosen ... volunteered himself to be one of Bush's pawns/puppets. He made the choice, so there is no apology necessary for criticizing his performance.

Wow, check-out "Winghunter's comment 179. That name should be "Wingnut". He's still fighting to win the war in Vietnam by drawing parallels to Iraq.

60,000+/- American lives sacrificed to another nation's civil war weren't enough for some folks I guess. Sure, we could have won the war in Vietnam ... by never getting involved in the first place. There wouldn't have been or be anti-war movements if there were a justifiable and declared war.

Wingnut's whole premise can be challenged by asking him/her to tell us about the "Domino Theory" lie. Now there IS a parallel. Today's mantra is "fight 'em over there so we don't have to fight 'em over here". That is just as big a LIE as "the Domino Theory" was back-in-the-day. Both a total crock coined by cowards, for cowards.

Try to learn something today little Progs;

How North Vietnam Won The War
Bui Tin Interviewed by Stephen Young

http://www.viet-myths.net/buitin.htm

What did the North Vietnamese leadership think of the American antiwar movement? What was the purpose of the Tet Offensive? How could the U.S. have been more successful in fighting the Vietnam War? Bui Tin, a former colonel in the North Vietnamese army, answers these questions in the following excerpts from an interview conducted by Stephen Young, a Minnesota attorney and human-rights activist [in The Wall Street Journal, 3 August 1995]. Bui Tin, who served on the general staff of North Vietnam's army, received the unconditional surrender of South Vietnam on April 30, 1975. He later became editor of the People's Daily, the official newspaper of Vietnam. He now lives in Paris, where he immigrated after becoming disillusioned with the fruits of Vietnamese communism.

Question: How did Hanoi intend to defeat the Americans?

Answer: By fighting a long war which would break their will to help South Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh said,
"We don't need to win military victories, we only need to hit them until they give up and get out."

Q: Was the American antiwar movement important to Hanoi's victory?
A: It was essential to our strategy....

Dear Sirs;

I am writing in hope that you will remove General Petraeus from his post, because he is an ass-kissing little chickenshit.

To PAO ( Public Affairs Officer) Centcom

Dear Sirs;

I am writing in the hope that you will kindly forward or convey my inquiry to Admiral Fallon. So that he can seek, at his discretion, to either dispel and or confirm a commentary attributed to him regarding General Petraeus.

A commentary tbeing used as an Ideological attack tool to deflect the public outrage as to the attacks by non-politicians on the General, our mission, our troops and our commanders in Iraq and in the greater Terrorist's War on America.

I have no affiliation remotely with any organization and or political group and am only responding in anger as a former Marine and disabled Vietnam Veteran, as is the Admiral.

I have first hand experience with our own people's personal attacks on us in the military using misinformation and myths in a "baby killer intellect" merely to prove some ideologues convenient truths and excuses for why attacks on us in the military where then as they are now, appropriate and deserving.

We lost the war of American hearts and minds, then in Vietnam, as now, by not showing dishonest misinformation as the convenient truths and myths they were and are, when it was and is absolutely provable that what is and or was being said and or spread as absolute fact, was, in fact, false.

The quote that is being used all over the extensive and wide MoveOn.org internet network and now in the main stream media, even at Fox news, as an absolute truth attributed to the Admiral, is, in my humble opinion, an effort to deflect the outrage of criticism about these personal attacks on the General. This is only the first salvo in a growing trend of American on American attacks on our troops as we who served in Vietnam are well aware.

The unnamed source, implied, as if in the Military and or present with the General and Admiral upon their first meetings and his taking over CENTCOM, is quoted as a defense for the attacks on the General, as if the Admiral is in some way agreeable with them.

"In sharp contrast to the lionization of Gen. David Petraeus by members of the U.S. Congress during his testimony this week, Petraeus's superior, Admiral William Fallon, chief of the Central Command (CENTCOM), derided Petraeus as a sycophant during their first meeting in Baghdad last March, according to Pentagon sources familiar with reports of the meeting."
Fallon told Petraeus that he considered him to be "an ass-kissing little chickenshit" and added, "I hate people like that", the sources say.

That remark reportedly came after Petraeus began the meeting by making remarks that Fallon interpreted as trying to ingratiate himself with a superior."

I seek nothing nor even a response. Yes, I know the Admiral and our Military has issues that are more important on their plate than this. Yet, if this is provable as an untrue commentary used as a lie, to once again attack, those who put the mission above all. I implore the Admiral to consider that his mission, as, I am cinfident, he is well aware, is as much about the military component, with important components of some importance as to the Iraqi and Afghani hearts and minds.

Yet, is it not equally and even more importantly, about the hearts and minds of Americans?

Is it not equally important to focus as much on correcting harmful misinformation, as it is to inform, with and, only with, the truth in dutiful honor and integrity? That common valor, which is at the Corp of our Military and its hollowed honored traditions of winning, in the right way, for right reasons, giving no advantage to our enemies and or those who would, in falsity, have our missions fail. We have already paid for a fair chance at success dearly in hollowed blood, treasure and, perhaps, in the very destiny of our nation's future.

Do deceptions and misinformation that harm our efforts not deserve an effective response if it is truthfully and honestly available.

Respectfully,

No, Nikolai, I am not a "Faux Christian", nor any other type of Christian. Sorry to disappoint you. Are you?

I realize I am being redundant but you really should seek professional help.

Well, hopefully Patraeus can convince Congress to keep the Army in Iraq and maybe even attack Iran, so that the US Army can be destroyed utterly and so that the US Government will go bankrupt and be unable to pay the mercenaries that keep justice at bay.

The US Army is a criminal organization that engages in torture, murder and rape as a matter of policy. Like their SS forebears, they should be extermined with extreme prejudice.

As for the US Government, they don't even measure up to the Army's standards or morality and are even less valuable. The sooner they are dead, the sooner the rest of the world can breathe easily and look forward to a bright future.

These seem relevant to the path this discussion has taken...

"Naturally, the common people don't want war, but they can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. Tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and endangering the country. It works the same in every country."
--Herman Goerring at the Nuremberg trials

"Patriotism is the highest form of dissent."
--Thomas Jefferson

I've had this sneaking suspicion it was Fallon that alerted us to the nukes flying to Barksdale. Call it a "hunch."

If so, a real patriot.

When I was in an (undisclosed) branch of the military, we would refer to individuals in other branches with every form of derogatory verbal abuse at our disposal.

Only anti-American libs could possibly take commonplace rivalry (and yes, anymosity) between military factions and blow it up into some sort of controversy. Name a time when competing generals didn't disagree on the strategy/progress of any U.S. wartime theater.

Only Jim Webb and Think Progress would actually think this is newsworthy.

162 Ah, got your attention, jorind, I certainly hope you are not a "faux Christian" either. Besides, why do I need help? Is it that I'm simply quoting from the bible inre to what happens to charlatans, or is it the other truths in my post you disagree with?

It is conspicuous by their rantings that some of the contributors to this thread neglected to either attend or stay awake in their English classes in school. Not only is their grammar and spelling abominable, but they are unable to express themselves without resorting to gutter language. That is indeed sad.
