The longer the troops stay in Iraq, the longer people will be cursing George Bush for his grand failure. What a legacy.

Pentagon Capitalism was the wry title of one of Melman’s books. What did he mean by it? “Since 1951,” he wrote,

the budget of the Department of Defense each year exceeds the net profits of all U.S. corporations. So, in finance capital terms, that means that the management of that budget controls the largest single block of finance capital resources.

Wow.

Comment by Zep Tepi — September 14, 2007 @ 12:20 am
Wow is right. I knew these bastards were greedy money grubbers, but that statement is cold. Wow.

Now can a single honest person, that lives in the United States,
actually say this comes as some great surprise? The plan to take
Iraq by Invasion, and to occupy that country in perpetuity (like
Japan and Germany) has been the strategy from day one. To
say or think otherwise is the most crass self deception. A nation
doesn't spend $1 trillion usd plus to destroy, and then occupy the
ruins, that has the slightest intention of ever leaving. Any person
with an IQ of over 3 had this one figured out the day the US Army
crossed the Kuwaiti boarder. Of course there was no intention of
ever leaving Iraq. The shareholders at Exxon/Mobil would never
approve of such folly. And since they control the US economy, what the Hell else would you expect? This has been the crux of the matter from the very outset of the entire farce. As Hitler once said, "Who is in any position to question the motives or tactics of the Victors, in any armed conflict? Absolutely no one. And like it or not, History has proved the
Fuhrer quite correct once again. In Practice. The Nation with the bigger brigades always comes out on top. Truth and morality be damned.

Why not just add Iraq as another state? I'm sure they would vote Republican. I'll be glad when the common ground Bush is seeking is the ground six feet down. Its time to confiscate the "ranch" in Crawford and turn it into a free rest and convalescent home for Veterans. Might also be a fitting place for the Iraq Illegal War Memorial.

Never ending war is right. It's what they want and what they've been putting in place since the McKinley administration. The USA in Iraq is going to end up like the British in India-----a couple of centuries of colonialism and theft on a grand scale under the pretense of "civilizing" the people.

This is just the direct cost. Once you add in replacement of military hardware and ordnance, and medical and other costs incurred by wounded and PTSD vets, and the social costs associated with that, economists say we're already in for 2 trillion for just the war so far.

So at this rate, we're looking at 6 trillion or so in overall costs, including externalities.

There's no such thing as a fiscally responsible conservative. It's in the same category as the tooth fairy.
