In his address to the nation tonight, President Bush said, “To the international community: The success of a free Iraq matters to every civilized nation. We thank the 36 nations who have troops on the ground in Iraq and the many others who are helping that young democracy.” In the MSNBC post-debate analysis with Keith Olbermann, Chris Matthews slammed Bush’s allegations that so many countries were fighting:
The fact we have 36 countries fighting on our side in Iraq must be news to the soldiers over there. I don’t know who these people are or how many divisions they have. All we read about in the papers are American GIs getting killed by IEDs and terrible accidents and all kinds of enemy action over there. … The idea we’re one of 36 countries fighting the war I think is ludicrous and why the President would throw that out there, I think it only opens him up to ridicule.
Watch it:
CNN reported in February that there are now fewer than 25 countries who still have a presence in Iraq, down from the 49 that made up the original “coalition of the willing.”
UPDATE: The AP reports that with 168,000 troops, the United States has “the overwhelming majority of troops” in Iraq. Albania, for example, has just “120 soldiers there and Bulgaria has 150 non-combat troops in Iraq.”
Fooling the 28%’ers again, and those are the ones you concentrate on.

All this torture. All this moronic illegal spying. And for what? So we can still have bin Ladin on the loose over six years after he singlehandedly committed a modern day Pearl Harbor on America? So we can be bogged down in a costly, bungled occupation in some two bit country for more than four years with no end in sight while we should be getting the guy who really attacked us? Enough already. It’s time for impeachment proceedings.
September 13th, 2007 at 10:57 pmYes but those 12 Moldovans are kicking ass too. In fact, they have a dance where they fold their arms and squat as they go around in a circle and kick the guy ahead of him in the ass. Thirty-six nations of ass kickers.

September 13th, 2007 at 10:58 pmI don’t think Congress has the stones to bring the impeachment charges.
Comment by Lawrence E. Rafferty — September 13, 2007 @ 10:43 pm
It has nothing to do with having the stones.
Congress doesn’t have the votes for impeachment and thats the problem.
A one vote majority in the senate won’t cut it. You need a two thirds majority and thats all there is to it.
And THATS why I refuse to vote republican next election, regardless of who the republicans put up. If the republicans resurrected Abe Lincoln and made him the RNC candidate I’d still wouldn’t vote republican. They haven’t earned my vote. Its time to impeach. They know it. We know it. And they won’t vote for it because of party loyalties and that earns them my disgust, not my vote.
September 13th, 2007 at 10:58 pmIn his speech to the nation Thursday night, President Bush unveiled the latest official White House talking point on Iraq. Destined for regurgitation from reliable Republican mouthpieces is “Return on Success.” That business sounding jargon from our first - and failed - MBA president is designed to reassure the American people that after our troops fight them there, they can come home here.

September 13th, 2007 at 10:59 pmMore testimony on the controlled demolition of Building 7 came out today which further indicts the Bush Administration for it’s ongoing lies about what happened on that day. Here’s the thread - there are many witnesses now coming forth. It’s time to convene a “grand jury” and reopen this investigation because the official story is far from the truth. What is the greatest threat facing us now? People will say it’s terrorism. But are there any terrorists in the world who can change the American way of life or our political system? IRAQ WARS
Japanese Soldiers Head Home As Iraq Mission Ends

Baghdad (AFP) Jul 07, 2006
Japanese troops in Iraq began heading home Friday as the first batch of 38 soldiers were flown out by British military choppers as part of the announced withdrawal, a military source said. “Thirty-eight Japanese soldiers left Iraq today. The actual troop withdrawal has started,” the source told AFP, adding the soldiers left for Kuwait.
Japan ordered its 600 troops to leave Iraq on June 20, ending its first military mission since World War II to a country where fighting is under way. The withdrawal is expected to be completed by late July.
While the withdrawal of Japanese troops from the southern province of Muthanna began on Friday, Japan has been moving its military vehicles and engineering equipment out of Iraq since June 20.
The Japanese mission in Iraq relied on British and Australian troops for protection as its own troops are barred from using force.
September 13th, 2007 at 11:38 pmBecause Estonia sends us a dozen Selchow & Righter “Parcheesi” games hardly qualifies them as members of any “coalition” Perle, Wolfowitz, and Rumsfeld want Bush to believe exists. This is Bush’s war–America knows it, the world knows it, and history will know it.

Albania only has 3.6 million people in its country.
USA’s population is 300 Million.
Albania’s comparative contribution is closer to 12,500 troops…which…if you’re willing to statistically consider it…is a sizable contribution.
But…if you think only hard numbers…then only a few countries on this planet could ever contribute on a remote level to the US.
Think what you want about the war…and of course about coutries token ‘non-combat’ troops ;-)
…but if you ‘adjust for inflation’…you should at least ‘adjust for population’ in your statistics.

September 13th, 2007 at 11:56 pmKeith, you common dreams link,
“The investment vehicle would be the “production sharing agreement,†a long-term contract-up to 40 years-that grants to the company a share of the oil produced; in exchange, the company underwrites the development costs and oilfield infrastructure. Such “investment†is touted by the Bush Administration and its puppets in Iraq as necessary to the country’s recovery, and a huge benefit, accordingly. But it is not unusual for these contracts to grant the companies more than half the profits for the first 15-30 years, and to deny the host country any revenue at all until the investment costs have been recovered.”
Ignores lease rental agreements that can cost millions of dollars per prospect while a company is waiting to produce. The author of your link is a real dumby. Even if it was true that the PSAs were granting more than half of profits (that’s bs) it does not deny host country of other half of profits. Iraq sells the oil and distributes profits per PSA, not the other way around.

See folks? Theres a republicans math for you. Theres that “fuzzy math” they’re so good at. There are nothing but US troops in Iraq right now, and a tiny handful of British troops, but this genius thinks theres a coalition.
He thinks the troops are full of crap for complaining about bearing the brunt of 3, 4 and even 5 tours of duty, because there IS no coalition to offload the duty.
There IS NO COALITION. PERIOD.
Umbra is just a nazi wannabee in here shilling for his supper.
